Mark Meer does a brilliant job I think. Great choice on Bioware's part.

I'm not sure what you want her to sound like tbh. My impression is that she sounds like someone who commands through respect, and doesn't need to sound all "I AM THE LAW LAW". She also strictly speaking isn't in military in ME2.Dinkamus_Littlelog wrote...
Every time femshep speaks obviously - thats my entire point. Every time I hear femshep speak, its like listening to someone trying to sound like a commander, as opposed to listening to a commander.

Most definitely agree. I think Mark Meer is brilliant, his voice fits default shepards face and thats why i think it works so well.

I hate it when every line is dripping with emotion, as it starts to sound really fake after a while.
This. MaleShep sound real, like he's seen things and has no time for your daddy issues.

Jennifer Hale and Femshep, hands down. MaleShep/Meer, sounds as if his nose is stopped up, or maybe he just prefers to talk through it.
This. Marks breathing is awful. In acting / singing / voicing, you would say he doesn't use his diaphragm to breath.. which is why he can sound really nasally and without resonance. I do find him a bit screechy. (I understand that he was a stand up comic... so he's probably used to pitching high and short)
That said, alot of people feel pretty okay with that so i don't know. To my ear - Jennifer is alot easier to listen to. Some of her modulation doesn't match the body language of the models actions... but that's to be expected... and certainly not her fault.
Mark has the benefit of being the "canon Shep" so the models base moves are male.

Male Shepard sounds more like a human than an actor.

This is why I prefer MaleShep too, in both games. Hale seems to put way too much emotion into every line and I can't stand it (and, if I'm honest, I don't think the voice matches what the character looks like either but that is just my opinion). Meer sounds more believable to me (and, for me, his voice matches the character). And it's not that I didn't want to give FemShep a chance, after coming to this forum for the first time and seeing the huge support for Hale, I made an adept (in Mass Effect 1) and just before going to Virmire (with Feros and Noveria complete) I couldn't stand her anymore and deleted the character. It's good that there is a choice though as to me it seems like there is an almost equal number of FemShep and MaleShep fans.

FemShep. Every now and then I'll get a jarringly out of place, over the top line but pretty much every character has a few of those. With the way those lines are recorded, giving the actor a bit of exposition and saying go, it's a given that some of them will be out of place when they make it into the game. Overall, though, I'd say Hale's characterization and presence are stronger than manshep. I find her performance throughout the game to be dynamic, encompassing a full spectrum of emotion.
I don't understand this at all.
I can't think a single line in the game beyond the grotesque flirting with Jacob where her voice had an emotion other than that annoyed kind of masculine inflection she puts in her voice.

"Do me a favour and choose a female character when you play Mass Effect. [---]..., but if you pick "male" on that first option you're doomed to that vacant-looking, shaven-headed Calvin Klein model you see to the left, with the archetypal bland protagonist voice.. And so much of the pleasure of Mass Effect comes from NOT being a bland protagonist."
I couldn't agree more.
I do however think that the MaleShep improved in ME2 and FemaleShep wasn't as good as she used to be. And that flirty little sl*t voice with Jacob?

According to my poll FemShep is surprising popular. And a lot of comments mention that one of the reasons they like FemShep is Hale's voice acting.
It's missing a key option though. I play each about 50/50, just saying. The options don't really fit that.
