I mean at that point, I can think of many reasons why someone who wanted to kill Logain would back out and not let Alistair do it. It could be because you felt sorry for Loghain but it can also be to protect Alistair from this obsession. That would have given the character a deeper relationship with Alistair and would give us space to rp someone who doesn't do what Alistair wants precisely because we care for him.

Right? I mean, Alistair "saved" my CE from being a bitter vengeful unrepentant shem-hater; why can't she teach him something about mercy in return?

Seriously, there should've been an option to back down from killing Loghain at that point.

Yep, there should have been.
Heck, it could have been a cutscene with you blocking Alistair's attack.

But eh, I never take the dialogue options literally anyways, so what my character says is in my head.

Agreed, KOP. Why did they leave that "option" (Because it makes no difference) in? The Warden decides not to do it. Alistair jumps in. And the Warden just stands aside and nods? The cutscene should have shown a much more torn Warden, at least.

Short answer? They rushed it. Hence why no new cutscene was made, which in my view, should've been the case. Why would you nod in agreement if you just said you didn't want to kill him?

Yes that was actually annoying. By "I can't do it", I assume that the Warden  can't bring him/herself to do it.
So the scene doesn't make any sense and pretty much goes like this:

Warden: "I can't do it"

Alistair: "That's ok, let me do it!"

Warden: "Gee thanks man. I don't know what I would do without you, you're a true friend. Go ahead, indulge yourself"

I guess at that point Loghain is so confused by this that he'd probably rather die anyways.

At least the game doesn't force you into a loop where you have to choose an option to continue like it does in the mage Origin with mages who decide they don't want to turn Jowan in after speaking with Irving.

LOL!

Yeah, if Ferelden is going to be left at the fate of these two, he'd rather not have to see the outcome.

:lol::lol::lol:

Actually you'd think that at that point Loghain would find a new reserve of strength to take back his title.

Loghain: OMFG you people have no spines! You can't even decide how to execute a defenseless man! I cannot trust you with the fate of Ferelden! RRRRAAWWWRR!

[Loghain wastes everyone in the room in his fury, eats an entire barbecued Bronto and heads out to meet his troops.]

It would have been kind of epic to have some Loghain snark at that moment. Like "Look at them! And that's who you trust to stop the Blight? Seriously?"

I absolutely love this! But uh, is everyone in the room killed? Because that would mean no more Wardens, so...

Actually this whole nodding to Alistair as he kills a defenseless man, you know like you're encouraging him to do this noble act, kind of reminds me of this:

Except Alistair is actually eager and your nod has no point.

Well, Loghain doesn't believe in the Wardens, remember? But yes, if he knows why Wardens are necessary to kill the Archdemon, maybe he hoicks your Warden over his shoulder before commencing the slaughter. :bandit:

[Edit] Actually wait a minute, he couldn't have known or accepted that Wardens are required to end a Blight, or else he wouldn't have tried to have every last Warden in Ferelden killed. . .der. . .

Being the Star Wars ignorant that I am, I had never even seen that scene. But yeah, the execution scene with Alistair does feel that way (except for what you mentioned above).

And Ferelden is swallowed whole by the Blight. So sad... Oh well, hopefully the Dalish and Golems got out of there in time.

An entirely justified execution?

I hadn't seen that scene because I'm an old lady and I can't stand the new Star Wars. But the duel scene with Loghain did actually remind me of the scenario in the original trilogy, where Luke waits and plans and trains and prepares to fight Darth Vader and then finally in Return of the Jedi, he doesn't want to fight him anymore; then when he is goaded or forced into fighting him it's with a really sad and bitter taste in his mouth.

Yeah, that always struck me as weird. "I won't fight you, Father...except right now. But saying I won't make me feel more like a Jedi!"

It's funny. First runthrough I killed Loghain and felt terrible. I spared him in the next game and decided Loghain was pretty much awesome and I'd never kill him again.

Then I realised I still needed that damnable Warden Commander achievement (yeah, I know, I know...) and made a character for this run. I ended up hating her because I couldn't identify with a character who would happily allow Alistair to kill Loghain (which is what she did). I did a very minimal runthrough (missing certain quests I normally do) and deleted the playthrough immediately after. (I also deleted my first character).

All my saved characters have spared Loghain.

Has anyone noticed some physical similarity between Loghain and Bruce Wayne / Batman?
Both have this black hair, cold steel blue eyes combo.

And both had tragic childhoods (though I'd argue Loghain had it worse).

I do think that Loghain and Batman have some comparisons.

However Loghain's life was harsh because of the Orlesians, Bruce Wayne chose to have a harsh life when he left for a while. His childhood was also bad, but he had people to fall back on, Loghain really didnt outside his father I believe.

Although which batman are we talking about the specifics of his life change depending if its:

Nolan's

The campier movies done in the 80's and 90s

Which artist wrote which series

The tv shows

Yah I know I am a nerd.

Being the Batman ignorant that I am (I am a complete ignorant!), I had never seen that image, but I can see a lot of similarities indeed.

As for their backgrounds, I'll take your word for it (Batman ignorant...).

No, him as the Riddler.

*image post fail*

Anyway, back the discussion about the "I can't" dialogue, can't someone make a mod that actually makes your character block Alistair? If someone made a cutscene so you could KO Alistair to keep him from taking the final blow from the AD, then surely this is possible. Then you just revert back to "Are you really going to keep him alive?" dialogue or whatever it is Alistair says.
