My theory: it's not really his, he has no idea that it even exists, and Howe had it created so he could make it look like Loghain was power-hungry so he could try to get him out of the way and become king himself. Enough is never enough for that man.Persephone wrote...

Yeah, unless you leave a bunch of sidequests till after the Landsmeet (most of which would feel awkward to do at that point, considering the rush you're in), there's just not enough time to truly bond with Loghain. Sure, you can be nice in the dialogues, but it's not the same as actually taking him with you on your adventures.
And he has nothing to say during side quests. Even when it is about stealing his "crown", heh!!!

Why, WHY?!?
Damn you Bioware for changing your original plans.
Not only do they give us Loghain for like 5 minutes until the final battle starts (Unfair that he gets no quest and that there is no part of the story except the final battle where he has something to say... How is my Warden supposed to be friends with him so I can say "You and I have become friends, right?" when discussing the DR without feeling like an idiot?) but whatever snips (He only adds a few words to dialogue really) were recorded either weren't coded properly or ditched. No wonder Alistair usually "wins".
AW
I usually get the "Had somebody asked this not weeks ago etc." line in response. And if his approval is high enough you do get different dialogue....... When he told me his life wasn't worth saving but the DR would be worth it if it saved mine......I wanted to GLOMP him!

That is his polite brush-off line. 'Had someone asked me not weeks ago, I would have said such a thing to be patently impossible. But as events have proven to me, life is anything but predictable.' He likes you enough not to say anything rude since you're at warm but it's not a yes. At friendly, you're supposed to get 'As strange as it may seem, I would agree with that assessment. I owe you a great deal, though I would never have foreseen this coming to pass.' Stupid bug.Persephone wrote...

OH. I LOVE that. If Alistair, Morrigan and Zev can have such bugs fixed, couldn't someone fix those for Loghain? True, even at +100, it never moves from "Warm" to "Friendly".

Ok, imagine if we had time to bond with Loghain. What do you think his companion quest would / should be?
I suppose you could look at it as his personal quest as you allowing him to live. It would be a reasonably easy fix to have him set to friendly eligible most likely. You'd still have to get his approval to 76+ to get the nice speeches. I'll look at it RQ if anyone is interested -- I could do it through an early dialog or something, as long as you weren't rude or nasty.

Some sort of quest like the others get. What kinf of personal quest do people think Loghain could have had?

See, that's the thing. Loghain is given a huge gift at the beginning. His daughter is queen, he himself has a chance to save Ferelden again. I was thinking I could just set the flag "friendly eligible" at that little greeting he gives you once you hit "warm". You'd still have to give him a lot of gifts and stuff because friendly is pretty hard to get, especially since you don't have him in the party for all the things your companions approve/disapprove of.

Ejoslin, that would be so lovely. The Morrigan Patch features a fix re: him remembering the DR if he survives the final battle. His dialogue must be VERY bugged and if you could fix it (Your excellent Zev Mod is a must have) , I'd be so very grateful!<3

The sap in me would like a quest involving Anora. Getting them on good terms again.
The greedy fan in me wants a quest where Loghain & I follow Alistair & persuade him to come back. With lots of angsty/angry dialogue between Alistair&Loghain.

I always get Loghain's approval to 100+ without mods. 3 maps as gifts and the correct dialogue. It can be done. GameFAQs saved me a lot of trial and error. So I guess I cheated by looking, but a mod is not necesary.

But his status doesn't say "Friendly", it remains at "Warm", even at 100 approval.

I was not really talking about modding and all that.
Just hypothetically, based on what we know of him as a character.
Of course it would be great if you could do that!

I didn't say that, ahem. I managed it too. But it doesn't make sense that he'll trust you like that (+100) becazse of four maps and a few nice words. Bioware rushed it again.

That's a tough question. I don't think you could do anything with Anora in the amount of time given to make it realistic. The only thing I can think of would somehow helping him make peace with Cailan's death. It's obvious, even without the cut dialogue, that he revered Maric. No matter what happened at Ostagar or whether he thinks he did the right thing (and those of us who are fans know that he did the right thing), it's an obvious burden for him. Not only his best friend's son, but Rowan's son.KnightofPhoenix wrote...

Ok, my lovely beta testers! This should work. When you get that snippet of dialog he gives at warm, "I suppose I shouldn't be surprised at your success; you beat me. Perhaps you can do this, after all." he should be set for "friendly eligible." He won't turn friendly until 76+ and his greeting won't change from the warm one (you still should get that -- "warm" generally returns "warm," "friendly," and "love"). If it doesn't work or if there's some weird behavior, let me know. If it does work, I'll put it up on ZDF's page as an optional file.
I'll give it a test later tonight, thank you!!

RtO kind of does that, except it makes it easier for Loghain.
Maybe it can have something to do with Ser Cauthrien?
That would be difficult though as she may be dead.
Maybe retaking Highever with him? Thomas Howe was killed during the war, so maybe he could have been in Highever.

Thank you so much! This won't affect his post-coronation dialog at all -- that's a different dialog -- unless he has friendly dialog there (I didn't look at it). There's an interesting note in there, though. That snippet at warm originally was supposed to be in a different file so it would trigger automatically when you went to camp, but it was kept there because they ran out of money.

Is he coming to terms with it, or is he just sniping at Wynne? Not that she doesn't deserve it. Maybe it's because I'm a girl, but I don't see him necessarily getting over it, no matter what he finds or what his reasons are. And the problem with using RtO is that a character may have done it before they get Loghain. There's also not really any point in which you can talk to your companions in RtO, unfortunately.KnightofPhoenix wrote...

There is a Castle Cousland mod, so maybe that could be integrated with a Loghain personal quest.
edit: Maybe giving him Maric's sword could be enough, considering how short some of the personal quests actually are.

Cailan's revealed plans, I think, killed whatever doubts Loghain may have had. I am sure he is not happy or pleased with his death, but I can't see him being that sad after RtO. And yes you're right, RtO can't be used.
About Maric's sword as gift. That means one cannot use it before they spare Loghain. And can never use it if they kill him. Could be problematic.
And yes Castle Cousland was my inspiration.
