At the time, it can seem to be in both their interests for Anora to try to speak up. Especially if your reasoning is 1) no surrender 2) try to talk your way out of it 3) if all else fails, fight

It's not in Anora's interest to reveal that she is even considering allying with you. If Loghain finds out, then her leverage is gone and she is making herself completely dependant on you (and she is not stupid, she knows about Alistair). The way I see it, Anora wants to keep her options open, if you don't help her, she can always re-side with Loghain. Anora blaming the Warden as kidnapping her would still make Loghain unaware of the fact that she is planing behind his back.

So no, it's definately not in Anora's interest to try and speak up. Maybe the Warden (even though you have been warned by her about this), but not Anora.

Or you can choose to fight and then (accidently or on purpose) lose, which means you don't have to surrender, and Cauthrien lives! Yay! :P

My problem with that option is that my ego doesn't allow me lose any fight in the whole game! :P

I also have a hard time believing that the remaining party members would be left alive after falling in battle. Why would Cauthrien leave the Warden's allies, who could attempt to rescue her (him), alive?

When I surrender willingly, I rp that it's like an arrangement and Cauthrien would rather avoid a fight.
Makes more sense than her beating you to submission, and only taking you and Alistair.

Yeah, in that situation I do find it believable, but not if the Warden went bananas on Cauthrien. Seriously, that scenario is deeply flawed.

I dont surrender.
I find it very fun to splatter her from one side of the place to the other.

As a nuking bloodmage with Zevran, Morrigan, and Sten they were dead inside a few moments.
It was glorious.

Pulled it off on Hardcore.
Really all you need to do is lock Cauthrien out for a short while: cone of cold/forcefield.
Mana Clash the mages.
And AOE the Archers. Fireball, Mass Paralysis, Blood Wound.

Its tricky but a good timed opening can win the fight, that or LOTS of health pots. The hardest part to the fight is the scattershot attacks, and when she starts using Perfect Striking.

Or you can just retreat to a back room and only Cauthrien follows you.
Also no need to be rude about it Costin or you can (as I say) stfu.

The Cauthrien battle is doable on Nightmare difficulty, which is the difficulty I always play at. My party for that battle is always Leliana, Morrigan, and Dog. If my PC isn't a ranger, then Leli is, thus getting an extra set of teeth.

On my last playthrough, my PC was a blood mage. The blood wound talent was excellent to keep everyone at bay for the first few moments (while dealing damage by itself).

As Giggles said, the key part is in avoiding the rain of scattershots you're dealt at the beginning. Do that, and it's not that hard to win it, regardless of difficulty. In other words, what you want for this battle is crowd control, crowd control, and more crowd control.

I got really close but on nightmare the archers spam scattershot way to much.
How one little arrow can stun 5 people all over the room in one shot needs to go.

You guys have more patience to win that fight than I do. I don't even bother trying to win anymore.

LOL!

It does require patience, that's for sure. After four complete playthroughs, it's the only fight that never fails to present a challenge for me.

Heh, whereas I don't have much patience for Captured anymore.  It's a fun quest, but usually I just say, "oh the hell with you and your big ass sword" and finish it then and there.  I usually play mages, though, which makes it easier.

Heh, I'm like Monica, I can never be bothered with the fight - I just surrender and and then escape from Fort Drakon on my own. (I never take Alistair on the Save the Queen quest - makes no sense to risk both wardens on a dangerous quest that could be a trap so... he stays behind. Also makes it easy to persuade Cauthrien to let me past at the Landsmeet chamber. I'd rather she lived, really. Waste of a good soldier, otherwise.

I'm assuming this means the wardens poster near the alienage that triggers the Pearl quest (sort of). Would be nice to have some more info on it.

Actually I liked Loghain alot, when he joined my group and talked to him I can see he was just a paranoid man. I mean all heros have their flaws.

Didn't people say the other day that doing that meant she wouldn't get persuaded not to attack you outside the Landsmeet chambers?

Oh, oops, lol. Forgot I fixed my bug in my playthrough.

I agree that it is definitely in Anora's best interests to not speak up. But how much of that does the Warden know? Anora is leading the Warden to believe that Loghain is a danger to her, so her options to re-side with Loghain don't exist if you believe she is actually in any danger.

I think the Warden can go in and be skepitcal. I did not buy that Howe would let Erlina just go do some errands.
But I guess it depends on what your Warden is thinking.

I am not saying that your Warden can't be annoyed by this. They have good reason to.
Just that I believe Anora had good reasons as well.

Yup. I'll be testing it tonight. With Loghain in my party. Just to hear those lines.....

I guess that just leads me back to a question of how Anora had planned for this game to go down. Was she expecting that the Warden would be suspicious of her, and therefore somewhat expect that she still had the ability to re-side with Loghain, and anticipate that she had the flexibility to betray you? Or did she expect the Warden to believe her, in which case, they would believe she was in danger, and couldn't go back to Loghain, did need the warden's help, and would find helping the Warden to be in her best interest, too?

I think it's bad writing mostly lol.

But I do htink Anora is skeptical of you from the start. Remember that you are bringing forth Alistair as a canditate and she is not sure how much you want him on the throne by that point.
So I think Anora expected that the Warden is not necessarily enthusiasitc about saving her and would rather have Alistair on the throne. And since she might expect that, she anticipated that she would need the flexibility to turn on you if need be.

But this is me connecting the dots. Not sure if it's pertinent.

Claiming your PC kicks ass when you do it on Hardcore isn't impressive at all.

To say that I am annoyed by such people would be putting it mildly. I cannot state the number of people who have claimed in similar manner that Loghain is a pathetic fighter and that Alistair crushes him at the Landsmeet......when they are playing on normal.

Some people even use that as a reason to kill Loghain, go figure.
