Heh. I am currently rewriting Chapter one. I don't like the way it turned out.

Oh. Well let me know when you're done, I want it to start off well

Oh, I know what you mean. My pictures never turn out as well as screenshots do (and once someone asked me why I had such a horrible profile picture when I had one of them up) but it's something, at least.

So how did you insert one of your non-screenshots as your profile picture? I *hate* my profile picture and would love to substitute one of my makeshift screenies instead, but I thought it was impossible.

I'm not sure if it's possible doing it with character creator because I actually have the game for PC but don't have a good enough computer for most of it. I just start up random characters, do two minutes of the origin, and switch the picture.

Sorry to be a nosy little bee. But I was just admiring some Loghain pictures.

It is quite possible to do the non-screenshot thing with the CC it's how I got mine up.

There's a tutorial somewhere around here but I remember how to do it offhand. First off you need to have the Character Creator installed.

1. You need your picture to be a .png it should be 146x146 now mine is slighter bigger than the recommended 46k size but mine also took like two hours to upload. :crying:

2. Now you should have your image (I'm sure if you wanted to resize an image you'd do it in a program like MS paint? I didn't have to resize mine.) name you image X_portrait (X being whatever you plan on naming the character).

3. C:\\Users\\*Your Computer Name Goes Here*\\Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\Pre-release Characters

That is the folder you place the image in. (Well I use Win7 so I guess you'd place it in the Pre-release character folder wherever it happens to be).

Now we need to make it so that the CC doesn't overwrite the image.

4. Right click the image and go to properties. Go to the secruity tab. On that you should see Permissions change the Permissions for System to deny all. Do not press Ok yet. Go back to the main tab and click read only. Now click okay and/or apply. (I'm not sure it matters but I always click apply first and then okay.)

Now to open up the CC!

4. Open the Character Creator and go to new character (doesn't matter who you choose) make sure to name them "X". Now do not save! Simply upload!

(To make sure this step has worked it's better to use the CC in windowed mode and have the PRC folder open you should see your image (It shouldn't be overwritten by the character pic if it has been the persmissions weren't set to deny properly.)

5. Give it some time and voila! You're new image should await you.

Hopefully.

Edit: O_o Why are their so many slashes?

There should only be one. =]

Will do. Should be about tonight. It's just a few tweaks, nothing major. Polishing.

Polishing Loghain? Maybe that's why he's so shiny.

Ok great. And can you make the cloak underneath the armor on the left?

I thought of attaching the cloak like this, works for you?

So, I'm reading the Stolen Throne - there IS a point in this book where Loghain starts to love his country, isn't there?  Image IPB

Eh not really. He does what he does because he promised Maric he would always serve Fereldan above all else.

Really?  Image IPB

Ummm . . .  . well.  Okay then.

Note - I'm only about 1/2 through the book . . .Maric just slept with Katriel, Rowan got upset, Loghain hit on Rowan, she said no, Loghain tried to leave, Maric talked him out of it. (so people know where I am)

Well, I'm not one of those who started out hating Loghain and then changed her mind after reading the book. I already thought he was awesome and read the book out of curiosity, because I wanted more of the character. He's a bit emo at first, isn't he? I kept wondering when he was going to become the patriotic general he is in the game. Unfortunately, the book focuses too much on the Maric/Katriel thing and misses out the Battle of River Dane entirely. That was my main disappointment with it.

Well, then I will look forward to that spot.

@CalJones - yes, exactly.  More so then being emo, though, he seems to have a great personal hatred, but that's as far as it goes, at least so far, and IMO.

I really am trying to give him a chance here.  I doubt I'll ever love the guy, but I'm trying to understand him a bit better.

That showed me that Gaider doesn't know that much about Medieval Warfare ( seriously 1.000 men? really? Hell I have read of SKIRMISHES fought with six times that many! )

Yea sure, if you think it's best. ^_^

But would it be possible to have the cloak go over the shoulder like this?
Like it would cover the left part of the chest and shoulder, and it could be spread back when the PC is running and/or fighting.

If it's possible, then it would be better on the left side, don't you think?

@ TJPags.

Unfortunately, TST makes it look like Loghain is doing everything for Maric and not Ferelden, which contradicts the Loghain in the game.

But I think his sense of patriotism increases as the rebellion goes on (his speech at the River Dane hints at it, as well as other things he does). Also, the book doesn't talk about the later stages of the Rebellion, where I think Loghain's patriotism would have increased.

And mostly every single character was an emo, let's face it.

It's been a while since I've read it, so I might have missed a few details here and there that do hint at a sense of patriotism. I thought TST is focused a lot more on characters and the relationship between them, then actual politics, warfare and ideals like patriotism, so maybe that's why Loghain didn't appear to be as patriotic as in the game. Or it could be something he acquired gradually, which is not abnormal.

I was disappointed that Gaider focused so much on the Maric/Katriel romance. I mean seriously, he saved her, saw her boobs and then an hour later they were humping along in the tent. Really Maric? Really?

Loghain/Rowan just got so little space for their romance, and that was the more fascinating romance of the two

Oh, there are several indications for patriotism. He sacrifices everything he has ever cared for to see his country safe. :crying: BTW, Ch1 is done. If you still want to read my fic, enjoy!

Didn't Mary Kirby do most of Loghain's dialogue? Which might explain the difference between the character in the book and the one in the the game.

Persephone: yes, I think the rewritten Chapter 1 has a stronger opening.

I am glad. Still not 100% happy. Will tweak again, no doubt.

@KOP

I hope that my tale won't disappoint. :)

I think that might be true up to a point. One could argue that Loghain cares about Maric, or that Loghain only does good for Ferelden because that's what Maric wants and not what Loghain wants. But, by the end of the Calling, at least, Maric seems confident that Loghain will do right by Ferelden, even if it risks Maric.

One could also argue that Loghain doesn't care about Ferelden, he just wants the Orlesians out. But that argument, I think, could just as easily refer to Maric or anyone else fighting on the rebel side.

In ST, though they're fighting a revolution, and though that is (arguably) a worthy cause, I think neither Loghain or Maric are faced with 'moral choices' equivalent to those the PC is forced to make in Origins. So, if you're looking for something that deep in ST, the best the book has to offer in that regard is near the end of the story. To me, that's fine, because that's part of their character growth. The book doesn't 'prove' the way they were, but it shows how the war molded them into the kinds of leaders they became.

And on a lighter topic. Am I the only one who's imported Loghain into Dahlia's wedding mod? That was rather surreal, let me tell you. Lol. Image IPB
