DR? Poor bugger. I never make him do that, he really doesn't want to.
If he really really doesn't want to, I won't force him. But there are several good reasons why it makes sense for him to do it. Also, it's kind of a crucial part of my Mage's character arc. For pretty much the whole game, she's been all about letting people do what they want to do, not judging them, and only interfering when what they want to do involves the repression of other people from being and doing what they want to do. Now she finds herself in a situation where she has strong feelings about what she wants someone else to do, and for the first time is compelled by those feelings to impose her will upon that person. It's an interesting conundrum for her --the last thing she ever thought she'd do would be to dissuade anyone, let alone Loghain, from an honorable intention, but then if she lets him do what he wants, he will die. And at the end of the day, she has to confess that she just doesn't want him to die.
DR accomplished. The "poor bugger" did look very uncomfortable, but he went of his own free will and my Mage did not have to lie to him, force him, or be duplicitious about it in any way. She even told him straight out about the child (Morrigan always seems bemused when my Wardens do this). She just laid the facts on the table, added that she didn't want Loghain to die, and gave him his own choice. He took it. Whew. I will of course let him be the one to kill the Archdemon as a reward for
this sacrifice.

What surprised me as much as the ease with which Loghain was convinced was the absence of the classic "You'll forgive me if I close my eyes and think of my dead wife" line. I was expecting that, but he didn't say it.

And now it's off to slay the Archdemon with the curious band of Grainne the Mage, Loghain the Hero of River Dane, Morrigan the (now pregnant) Witch of the Wilds and, perhaps most surprisingly, Carcharoth the Mabari war dog. I never thought I would bring Dog to the final battle seeing as how Dragons and dragon-type creatures have always found him so crunchable. I also realize that not having a Rogue with me will put me at a disadvantage. But I finished off my first Archdemon without fixing any of the Ballistas once they had jammed, so what the heck. And I couldn't bear to separate the Glimmer Twins (my nickname for Dog and Loghain, especially when they insist on barreling through and setting off any and all traps in the area before a Rogue can even detect, let alone disarm them

).
