I, personally, have never let Loghain live. He is solely responsible for the death of almost every Warden, after talking with a few of the guards I also feel he was solely responsible for the Darkspawn getting into the tower and almost killing me and Alistar. No matter his past heroism in the books, or his past deeds nothing can make up for the hundreds of lives he sacrificed just for his mad quest for power. Then his actions once he gained power: selling elves into slavery (my attachment to all forms of elves might make that more important to me), imprisoning his own daughter, along with condoning the torture and murder of his detractors... I almost felt death would be not harsh enough, but I figured, he betrayed Maric once, and betrayers rarely ever stop save through death. So Loghain was killed by my hand, so he could never again cause death on such a scale.

He is no more responsible than Cailan.
He had nothing to do with the Tower of Ishal being overrun.
Nothing he did was to gain power.
He did not imprison Anora.
And we do not know if he knew about Howe's method's at Howe's estate.
Where on earth did he betray Maric?

And you're missing out on a lot. Sparing him offers details as well as a great additional ending.

Posts like that.....they make me very Image IPB

I can't be arsed with 'em any more. I've argued those points multiple times now. Intelligent debate is fine, but posts made out of ignorance are not worth responding to. "Mad quest for power" indeed. *shakes head*

But much as I can't stand the Alistair love, I can't stand the Loghain Love either :P

You're apparently very concerned about what other players like.  I take it you would have us confine our enthusiasm for... who?  Sten?  Dog?

I'm pretty sure debate is just that... debate, that's a bit unfair to say that :P

Doesn't sound like debate to me.  Sounds like taking issue with the fact that players like who they like and that doesn't suit you for whatever reason.

Damn. I have never seen even the most blatant Loghain hater hold him solely responsible for their deaths. I mean, if nothing else you'd think the darkspawn that actually overran everything and killed everyone would bear SOME share of the responsibility.

Loghain probably struck a deal with the ArchDemon against Orlais, don'tchaknow.

Only, when it backfired, he realized that Orlais was controlling his actions all along. Damn you, Celene!

Okay. . .partially to save this thread from dropping to Page 2 and partially because I need to confess. . .

. . .My name is Morwen and I. . .have started a fanfic.

You can all blame Addai and Persephone for this. It's their fault I got inspired. :P

Well I did choose to announce it in this thread :P. . .

But yes, it is about Loghain and specifically centered around my most recently finished playthrough with my somewhat scary-looking Mage. I also find her an interesting character and had already started to fill in some "untold" story bits through a series of cleverly contrived "screenshots", when I finally said What the hell. I'm much better at writing than at pseudo-screenshots anyway, and this way I'll be able to formalize, as it were, what I RPed in my head. I'll also get a chance to re-write RtO so that it makes some bloody sense, too. ;)

I'm really looking forward to this, it might make future playthroughs less painful.

Good luck with it!

Oh, I doubt that. I'm not going to re-interpret what happens there, I'm going to rewrite some key things about what happens. Though much of it will stay the same, it will just fit better into the story.

Good luck with it!

Thanks! In case you're worried, it's not going to be a romance per se --Addai, Persephone and others already have that covered perfectly well. It's more of a rite of passage kind of story. My Mage has a little growing up to do before she gets to that point, with anyone. But, I will be taking her through Awakening, so if the DA:O fanfic pans out, who knows. . .

Hahaha. . .too late. Your secret is out :D

Well, I won't lie that there aren't romantic-ish elements in it, but they're definitely on a rated-T level. If that. The night of the ritual is about as racy as it gets.

Which means I have to write real good in order for this to be interesting to anyone, right? :P

Hmm, now I'm wondering how a Bollywood version of Dragon Age would work.

Morwen - good stuff, looking forward to it.

The Alistair thread got me started, on DA fanfiction at least.  Sick freaks.   I still am in denial that I write it, so maybe that will work for you too!

Personally, 'Loghain romance' seems an inherently contradictory wording.

Loghain would never cheat, and Loghain is already happily married.

To his job.

Maybe their point of view is that the darkspawn aren't an intelligent agency and can't really be held "responsible" for anything? Even the archdemon is being driven to destroy by a force stronger than free will.

So Loghain is to blame? How on Thedas would he be able to know that the darkspawn would overrun the Tower? Lol, I'm sorry but that is the most pathetic excuse for not liking Loghain that I have ever heard.

I suggest reading KoP's "Battle of Ostagar" post Aedral, then come back and let us know how you would have done it? WIthout sacrificing your entire army and leave Ferelden to its doom.

Mysteriously appearing tunnels underneath seem like they should have been a clue.

Well if the Reverred bloody Mother would've let Uldred light the beacon by magic, maybe it wouldn't have happened. So I would place my blame on her scrawny bum instead of on Loghain.

Btw Cal, mind if I use your Garrus sig? :)

I think I got the Garrus sig from the Garrus fan thread, so it's not strictly mine, but it was up there for public use so knock yourself out.

I don't hate Loghain, and from the vague shots of battle we did see, I don't blame him for retreating. I was merely attempting to offer a rationale.

Not trusting Uldred was very unreasonable of her, clearly.  Not like he was a demon summoning blood mage or anything.
