Loghain's only mistake is not killing him way before.
I dunno...even assassinated quietly it would still cause problems for Loghain, perhaps even more so then Cailan dying at the hands of the Darkspawn.

I grow weary of trying to find an explanation for every sodding point. That's why I am going to quote TIM from ME: Retribution.
"The simple-minded focused on the holes in the story; they needed an explanation for every loose end. The intelligent filled in the holes themselves, using logic, reason, and creative thinking to weave the threads together" - The Illusive Man, Mass Effect: Retribution

Do we know for sure that the beacon wasn't lit in time?
I know Alistair says that you might have missed the signal, but nothing in the game itself seems to suggest that this is the case. Neither do I remember any of the writers saying the beacon wasn't lit in time.
What can you do.
I don't think anyone actually thought this could be a Loghain appreciation thread, without someone coming in here and arguing about what has been argued millions of times, while at the same time saying how much they fear the thread.
He would know that several of the Wardens agreed with the Architect and several of them didn't. He would know that the leader of that group was manipulated by them.Addai67 wrote...
A few Wardens were helping the Architect, as were some mages and some Orlesians, and it was also the Wardens along with Maric and Loghain who put down the Architect's plan. Loghain witnessed both. If he only sees "Wardens work with darkspawn," that's because of his own obsessions.
Still, I have to hand it to you. In all my time on the boards I've now heard something new. The Grey Wardens planned Ostagar... wow. This is a new, even nuttier Loghain than I had envisioned. Of course, there's not a scrap of evidence in the game that Loghain actually believes this. Give the guy a little credit!

Part of Loghain Appreciation is the debate, I think
I didnt either, but listen to what Riordian has to say.Killjoy Cutter wrote...
I bought the game recently, have played about halfway through, and honestly, I have yet to see a thing that will make me hesitate to kill or execute Loghain the instant I get the chance.
No no, I would not compare Addai to Lotion. Lotion was straight up annoying. Addai is reasonable. It's just that we already had the same discussion gizillions of times that I eventually get tired of it.
And yea I like it. As much as I can anyways, you know I hate cross fiction. But your style is very entertaining and actually sounds smart (which is rare).

I have to laugh every time I see this, since I didn't realize at first she was holding a glass and assumed she was grabbing the package.CalJones wrote...

A debate kind of loses its significance when it's repeated over and over and over and over and over again.
Oh forgot an "over and over again".

That was just an example. I've also seen Edward Cullen transfer to Hogwarts, the Pevensie children go through the Wardrobe into Middle Earth, Luke dies as a child so Kal-El has to destroy the empire, Revan raise Harry Potter, House raise Harry, Genesis raise Harry...pretty much everyone under the sun raising Harry. I've seen a lot of crossovers covering all sorts of subject matter and fandoms. I have yet to see one that doesn't feel contrived.Costin_Razvan wrote...
There are more ways to write a fiction then a simple novelization with crossover characters you know.
Read mine for example.
