Giggles - the Witcher is well worth playing if you can hunt it down.

Ooh, like the fanarts, especially the first one. I had to go to her page to see what was going on. Apparently Loghain is in the throes of lust? Just how we like him. LOL

Indeed, it seems the young Cousland was forced to marry him... oh... poor girl!
Lovely chapter!!
And since I got myself trapped in here.. I had to take a shot:
Loghain still can not figure out all this talk about bulls when he is around....

So that picture is of Loghain forcing himself on a young Cousland?

Well, Loghain WAS raised a farmer. He looks uncomfortably at home here.

Being that awfully at home is illegal in many places.

Having a law against it is kind of redundant though, as it gets filed under animal abuse.

I think they call it "marriage" here.

So... being raised in a farm, how do you think his childhood was like? A lonely one as he describes Anora's?

No, I think his childhood was pretty normal and wholesome, perhaps hard and impovrished given he grew up during the Orlesian occupation, and they were notorious for backbreaking taxation of farmers and seizure of their property.
But he had a brother, father, and mother, and from all accounts, was fine. I'd imagine He was probably just as stubborn and headstrong as a child/youth as he is an adult, though perhaps a bit more impulsive. But I'd imagine his childhood, as far as relationships with family and neighbors was pretty normal and content. What changed everything was when the Orlesians came in and raped his mother and killed her and forced him to watch, when his father rebelled against some excessive tax or demand from the Orlesian landlords. And then he and the remnants of his family had to live on the run.
Anora's lonely childhood more than likely stemmed from not only being an only child, but also socially higher and more motivated than those children around her, as well as a father who was seldom around. I think being a noble would make for a much lonlier life than a farmer.

I grew up on a farm so I can relate a bit. Loghain very much has a farmer's personality as far as I'm concerned. Not that every farmer is the same, but in my experience you are relatively isolated so you learn to deal with things on your own, not whine, and if there's something that needs done you do it. You are also reliant on your family and so that means you look out for them. You can be kind of quiet and withdrawn just by virtue of being on your own so much. As a kid I had to entertain myself, we didn't even have cable TV, and my best friends were animals. Even though I eventually went on to a very social type of job, that's always stuck with me. So when Loghain is alone in a crowd, I can totally relate to that. Anyway, that's my take on it.
Oh, one more thing, the innate pride and dignity is something I associate with farmers, too. Owning land and getting your living from it makes you feel like a king in your own right.

At the same time, I like how his manner of speech at some occasion sounds more noble than the rest.

I lived on a farm in Ohio as a kid, and yeah, actual farmers are pretty self reliant and proud. Which is one reason I consider them as better models of people than most urban or cosmopolitan types. "Sophistication" is a vastly overrated concept, in my opinion.
