After some cursory googling I see no mentions ANYWHERE of a Mac Tir sibling. Although I found a disturbing amount of Alistair/Loghain slash fic that shakes me to my very core.

And makes little kittens cry.

@KoP, smallholders are middle class in my mind.  They are both producers and merchants of their wares and the wealthier ones usually employ other people.  Oh, and I definitely think that Gareth being sergeant at arms shows in Loghain's upbringing.  The latter half of his childhood is spent raised only by his father and on the run, after all.

I'd agree there. British farmers are generally middle class and, for the mostpart, well respected. If you look at the majority of people who compete in equestrian sports in the UK, most are either upper crust, or they're farmer's sons and daughters. Not many others have the resources to do that (and I say that slightly bitterly as a formerly horse mad teenager whose dreams were crushed due to growing up in London).

I'm a bit puzzled by the brother thing too - where is that from? There's no mention of one in TSR - is there?

I could be wrong, though I think I remembered mention somewhere of a brother. But again, I could be wrong.

I would find it strange if he had no siblings, though. Farmers, especially in medieval times, tended to be a pretty fecund bunch, having large families that would be able to help out with the numerous chorse and tasks involved in running a farm.

I was horse-mad, too.  My parents owned horses but had gotten rid of them by the time I was able to appreciate them.  My father's take on horses was "cows make money, horses eat money."  So we only had cows.  Image IPB  [/childhood angst]

I would put the Mac Tirs in that class of smallholders who, in medieval Britain, were poised along with wool merchants and shipping barons to make the middle class.  If they hadn't been ground into the dust by the poncy Orlesians, of course.

@Skadi, whether for story purposes or the lore, Fereldans seem not to have had big families.  I don't think there was a sibling Mac Tir.  Gareth and Loghain were on their own as of his mother's death.

I was just thinking, I remember when origins was first coming out, developers were comparing companions to foods. I don't remember Loghain getting associated with anything in particular. But if I were going to choose a food to describe him, I'd say a nice, juicy sirloin steak, ungarnished, flame broiled to medium rare. Served with a nice, bitter pint of stout.

I just want my dollop of bacon-herb butter on there...

Checked the Wiki and there's no mention of those food notes, as they do for some characters.  I think we need a Mary Kirby appearance in this thread!  But she's too busy lasso'ing the DA2 yahoos.  They did have a reference to the Game Informer article, so good on Wiki for keeping up to speed.

Dunno about herb butter (sounds too French/Orelsian), but bacon, HELL YEAH! Loghain is a dish that was designed for bacon. Nice crispy strips. The only dressing/garnish a Loggy-steak needs.

Medium rare. Because Loghain is old enough to be grilled for a while, but still maintains a somewhat juicy, youthful aspect to him. Something you could totally sink your teeth into. With a little crunchy bacon to add some crunch and smoky flavor.

I'd totally eat Loghain wrapped in bacon slices.:wub::wub::wub::wub:

Eh, when I think Loghain, I think of black coffee. Would explain why he doesn't sleep.

If I have to think of him in food terms, it's either the blackest of coffee or bitter chocolate. Exquisite, yet of aquired taste and not a mainstream favorite.:P

One of the developers compared Alistair to a peach, so no, definitely not a peach.

Morrigan was compared to dark, bitter chcolate, so steak or black soffee for Loghain.

Hmmm... if KoP was a food, I'd say he's a a fine double chocolate cream mousse. Refined and elegant and irresistable, yet with sinister long term consequences to your health.
