Hehe... why are you staying away from BSN, besides the obvious reasons of internet madness?

I can bask in your malevolence!

I dunno if I would classify the desire the ultimately bring prosperity and peace as being malevolent, but eh oh well.

Hee, mostly the internet madness. These forums are so busy, and frankly, they overwhelm me! However, I couldn't help but post here, 'cause I'm a raging Loghain fangirl who needs to get her raging fangirl fix.

Speaking of which, I've been wanting to draw him more. I'll have to contribute some silly doodles in the near future. ;D

I'm wondering if in the whole First Warden/Political influence quasi-plot is a poke/nod to popular conspiracy theories.

I mean, what if the First Warden's ultimate goal is a sort of "New World Order" for Thedas under the Wardens? One World Government, ect. And this move in Ferelden is like the launching grounds for something bigger?

The reason I say this is because I've seen some pretty blatant easter egg/references to subjects of popular conspiracy theories. I wouldn't put it past a developer to have a little fun mixing in that sort of thing to sort of screw with your head for fun.

Potentially related. Avernus sounds adamant about giving the Grey Wardens a new purpose, to fight demons and "rediscover the secrets of ancient Tevinter", and that the Wardens are the only place where magical research can exist. Now this can be Avernus talking as a mage and not really a Warden. But, in some instances he sounds loyal to the Wardens (wants to share research result with them) and he believes that the taint is essential for their potential empowering. He might be wanting a new Tevinter Imperium, but this time an Empire ruled by Wardens.

To be honest, I personally would look favorably at a neo-Tevinter Imperium or some power that is able to rally Thedas under its banner (hence Arcturus going through the Mirror). But I am not sure I'd like Wardens to do it.

Wardens should stick to fighting darkspawn.

It would not be a good thing if it got out that the wardens were experimenting with blood magic, and demons then got wiped out by other people.

Speaking of conspiracy theories, I just thought of an in-game moment, where Cailan says something like "Enough with your conspiracy theories, Loghain."

For some reason, everytime I hear this line, I get this mental image of Loghain hunkered down in the basement of Gwaren castle wearing a tin foil hat to keep out the Orlesian mind-control rays

Yeah. The whole secret-ritual/darkspawn blood stuff and join-or-be-slain law of the Wardens is extremely similar to claims of initiation rituals in real-world secret societies and cabals. As is the Wardens' general influence Thedas-wide, as well as their approval and support for the birth of the Chantry, ect. I agree on Avernus, I think he is extremely loyal to the Wardens, above all else.

The Wardens themselves are expected to put Grey Warden interests above national/special interests. And even give up nationality alltogether.

I wonder if this plan of the First Warden is going to be carried over to future sequels. We know Morrigan and Old God Child will be playing an important part. I would imagine perhaps the Wardens themselves as an organization might as well.

I think by that point, the Wardens were largely controlled or very much influenced by Emperor Drakon of Orlais. He was the clear hero of the 2nd Blight and the Wardens followed him. I think he conquered the Anderfels even. I am certain it was once part of the Orlesian Empire.

I think it was the decline of the Orlesian Empire that gave the Wardens more autonomy and shaped them to become what they are (though I still argue that Orlais has influence via stipends and that they are political allies contrary to claims of neutrality). I think the claim of neutrality was relatively recent and came about during the 3rd Blight, when the Wardens mediated between Tevinter and Orlais (to get them to fight the blight naturally).

Yes, and when you read the bizarre conspiracy theories going on, supposedly similar historical events signaled this/that/the other on the birth of some nefarious order. Certainly not rational on many fronts, but most conspiracy theories aren't, either.

I'm just toying with the possibility of some grand Warden plot to unite Thedas under a single, absolutist authority. I mean, beyond the Blight and the Darkspawn, which are rare events on the surface, what do the Wardens stand for as an organization? What sorts of values do they enspouse? Do they have an agenda for what will become of them after the 7th Blight has ended?

I think the First Warden and Avernus are at least pondering on the future and it's clear the First Warden wants to prove that the Wardens are essential, blight or no as Mistress Woolsey said.

But other than that, I do not think they have a master plan, at least not now. The Wardens remain heavily dependent on their host countries with the exception of the anderfels, which is the poorest nation of Thedas. They are also heavily reliant on stipends and the Anderfels cannot possibily provide for them an economic base for whatever plans they might have.
Of course controlling Amaranthine, a vital sea port in the Waking sea, might rectify or alleviate this.

Too bad for the first Warden, Arcturus is not going to let it happen

If Gaider does not drop a sudden rock on Arcturus head and leave him out of the plot for some reason.

All tyrants think they are doing it for the greater good.  Just sayin'!

On a lighter note, chapter 17 of The Arrangement just published.

You know, I could have sworn that you said that at some point Cailan would stop acting like such an ****. It's been three years and he's just getting worse. Image IPB

Great chapter, though.

I doubt I said that.  :innocent:  I may have said that I thought he could have gotten over it if Ellie had been straight up with him.  It's the idea that she, Anora and Loghain conspired behind his back that makes him a little crazy.  Besides the innate sulking etc.

It would rule if you spared Loghain and for some reason he pops up in the Free Marches with some other Wardens and just sh*ts on Hawke's parade, lol.

Loghain: Ho, there. I can smell the damp and dog on you, another Ferelden mayhaps?
Hawke: Yes - you're the Hero River Dane aren't you?
Loghain: It would appear so. Now what're you up to, boy?

Addai - great chapter, as always. Loghain continues to be awesome while Cailan becomes more and more of a jerk. And a cliffhanger, too! (Well, sort of).

I hope you have plenty of time to write over Christmas.

Teehee, thanks! I wanted to draw him being all serious-business with a map, but that, uh... out-of-character sex joke kinda crept its way into the final image...

Augh, the idea of him being all studious over his maps make me happy! I should do a serious one, for once. <3
