This is a bit out of the blue and a bit off topic, but are my eyes deceiving me or is Addai using one of my Loghain sigs?!?!?!?!?!?

I mean, Addai never even used an Alistair sig berore! I guess Loghain has officially triumphed. :D

P.S.: This isn't because of some lost bet, right?

She also just joined the Loghain Sympathizers Group, according to my "latest friend news" page. Welcome to the Dark Side, Addai! Image IPB

Well, given that she's responsible for much of that smut...

I find it amusing that Addai's story was inspired by a dream she had about the political marriage. Her subconscious was a Loghain fan even if her conscious self wasn't, at the time. Heh.

Oh good grief, I'm being stalked.  LOL

Yes, it's an... experiment.  As a rule I don't like the flashing sigs anyway, but I realized I needed to change the description on my fanfiction link, then it all looked rather plain, so... and of all my fangirl crushes, this is the only one of which my husband also approves.  Thus far I've resisted making him post with "Alistair is hawt" flashing beneath his posts.

Blah blah...

You can coinfuse the hell out of everyone by adding an "I wuv Alistair" flashing banner to go with the Loggy one. Since, by some unspoken law in the minds of many on the forums, you aren't allowed to like them both! :wizard::wizard::wizard:

According to the ffnet reviews, I've led more than one person into dark inner turmoil.  *evil laughter*

Someone else on the Alistair thread admitted she came back after a hiatus as a Loghain fan.  One of you on this thread is a blood mage, aren't you?  Confess and face the silver sword of mercy!

The Arrangement gave me a chance to see things from a different perspective. DA:O was a completely random gift someone gave me for Christmas. In my first play through, I knew nothing about DA universe - everything was black and white: Loghain was bad; the Grey Wardens were good. With each subsequent play through, however, more grey areas appeared. I haven't read any of the books, but I know that Addai has. So, when I started reading her fanfic and was presented with this stern, yet wonderful depiction of Loghain, it made me realize I had been ignorant to the depth of his character the entire time.

Why not? I didn't develop my unholy fondness for Loggy until I saw him in Awakening, and got to see what he was like when the whole burden of politics/leadership/idealism was removed, and he was his normal self again.

He not only loooked sexier, but radiated smex appeal in that brief cutscene, where we see a more relaxed, back to his old-self Loggy.

Tis a rather interesting conclusion. Often made me feel like *Rock* Me *Hard place*, I adore them both, for different reasons. When it comes down to it, I do have a slight preference for Loghain. I cannot bear to have either of them executed. Brilliant characters they are, maybe because they seem to be so different, yet are more alike than many would care to find out. IMO, anyway.:innocent::P

Never ever read my story then. You might change your mind back to what it was before and we don't want that.=]

I like Alistair as well - I think it's hard not to like him. He's funny, and some of the things he says if you go the friend path are genuinely touching. I just, argh, well, I can't kill Loggy so I always get Alistair's Landsmeet tantrum and it drives me nuts.

In terms of schmexyness, then it's Loghain all the way, partly because Alistair is too young for me, partly because his clean cut good looks are a lot less interesting to me than Loghain's more saturnine appearance (I'm a sucker for black hair and blue eyes - I like Nathaniel as well) and then there's the voice.

I think Addai's managed to capture his character perfectly, and whilst I generally don't go for fanfic, I have been reading the Arrangement as avidly as I'd attack any novel.

Oh, so I've majorly spoilered you, haven't I?  Sorry.

I've definitely grown in my appreciation for Mary Kirby's and David Gaider's characterization as I've had to sift through the old threads and the novels again.  For instance I used to think the game and novel characterization were sometimes at odds, but I see more of how they fit together now.  Part of that is in reading more of their philosophy on how they write.  Their stories are character-driven, not plot-driven (which is right up my alley) and they deliberately leave ambiguity because they consider it better to have readers wonder and come to their own conclusions.  So we end up with all these conflicting ideas of who the characters are and there's some truth to all of it.

One of the interesting bits I read in an old forum thread was someone saying they wished Gaider had written in more of what Loghain and Maric were thinking internally.  He said he avoids that and thought there was even too much of it in TST.  But he admitted it might be because as a game writer, he's used to taking a hands-off approach to characters so that players can decide.

@ Addai: Haha, no need to apologize. Actually, you've piqued my curiosity. So much so, in fact, that I actually kind of want to read the books...dun, dun duuunnn! ;)

I agree completely. I slightly favor Alistair more, other than that, I totally agree. Especially on the certain similarities between the two. Especially as you get a chance to see both at their worst and best, and both have strong reasons to love/hate them. At the same time.

Even before I got Loggy itch, I wanted a third option of dealing with him at Landsmeet, other than either join or execute. Like, imprisonment or exile or something. The kill or make a Warden choice was too limited, to black/white a descision. With someone as big and bad ass as Loghain, it also limited future possibilities for him.

I have to thank the thread for introducing me to HBO Rome, I just finished it. Despite over-dramatization and sometimes ahistorical weird bs, I liked it.

And I want a video game character like Octavian Augustus, I love that man. Brilliant leader. Come to think of it Bhelen is not too dissimilar, except Augustus was more subtle.

Willingly?!?...hmmm... I saw her kicking and screaming half way this thread before joining the dark side... lol! But finally not only she did but is spreading Loghain's love! Yay!

Quoted for agreement. I really, really, really tried to like Alistair enough to have fun romancing him....but I have failed miserably, perhaps I'm too old or too picky... :pinched:
