Am I being hypocritical when complaining about Boudica slaughtering three cities when I just committed a genocide of unspeakable scale in Sins of a Solar Empire (I completely wiped out 5 planets of their entire population in a matter of seconds via Novalith cannons)? :D

Only if you did it for the lulz!:wizard:

Okay reading about the Battle of Watling Street its clear that Boudica was stupid.
Running face first into two waiting legions?

Oh look she pulled a Cailan.

To be fair she DID outnumber the enemy six to one.

But charging headlong into two waiting legions in a narrow pass? MADNESS!

It was uavoidable, the strategic situation demanded a quick expansion.

That plus there is no way to colonise planets in Sins other than bombarding the hell out of it, or wait for forever for your culture to cause revolutions, which is too time consumming and it's time I don't have.

Then your sins are forgiven my son.

Speaking about strategy gaming. I recently got into Empire Total War at last, and have already pissed every single nation in the game.

I went as Prussia, figuring that having the best ground army of the time under my command would benefit me greatly in my run for World Domination ( seriously there is a game mode where you have to take over almost the entire world ). No matter that in history Prussia was almost completely annihilated by Russia, Austria, France and Sweden fighting against it, as the tiny voice in the back of my skull kept shouting.

A voice which I silenced, along with any sort of common sense that I had. My first turn was marked by an invasion of Poland, since hey Warsaw is RIGHT THERE and undefended and a takeover of Dresden. Of course ignoring Austria as Prussia while you invade Poland is like ignoring a rabid bear whose meal you just stole, but I could care less. I had taken the Polish Capital and had gained.....nothing. Seriously the research building had to be rebuilt and I could not tax the people there since they hated me to hell and back.

Still, with Dresden, Warsaw and West Prussia ( which I took over in 2 turns ) under my control I figured I would just destroy Poland while Hanover ( my ally ) would prevent France from attacking from the west.

That is until Austria declared war.

Now common sense would have declared that I give Warsaw back to Poland in exchange for a peace treaty while I marshal my force to crush Austria to the south. Common sense eluded me. When I get stuck in something I sure as hell ain't pulling back without a fight, and I wasn't about to lose Warsaw regardless of no benefits.

So, with a small quarter of my army I invaded Austria while the rest garissoned Warsaw or marched in the east on Courland ( small nation, protectorate of Poland ). I took Prague and then bluntly told Austria to **** off from the war in exchange for their city back. Never mind that I could have used Prague to actually get income! Hell no I was giving up Warsaw.

Then Bavaria and another minor nation declared war on me. So I marched on them as well to the west!

Image IPB

Meanwhile the Poles had marshaled a massive army to take back Warsaw.

Image IPB

Which I completely crushed....

Image IPB

...before getting attacked by another, LARGER one!

Image IPB

Things did not go so bad from there. I was able to conquer Poland, Courland and Bavaria.....before the Ottoman Empire declared war on me...

Image IPB

....and with them came Russia and Austria. I could win virtually every single battle against them, but attacked on so many fronts I could not hope to win the war. Thus I gave up and started a new game where I waited one turn and then Poland offered an alliance against Austria...

Fate is a ****.

Total war is rather infamous for having some factions start in the worst places on the map.

I am looking forward to Shogun 2 though since they seem to have fixed a lot of issues from Empire.

Although it all pales in comparison for my waiting on TES V Skyrim.

In Empire the starting positions are EXACTLY as in real history.

So you can imagine what kind of hell it must have been for Fredrick the Great during the Seven Year War.

Well he certainly deserves to be called after "the great" after what he did.

Although its sad really, people call him the great but consider Napoleon.

He fought and won more battles than Alexander the Great, Caesar, and Frederick the Great combined but everyone only knows him as a failure for Waterloo and Russia.

Then again his own stupidity got tens of thousands of his own men killed.

As did Fredrick's.

Waterloo is not an important battle as most think it is. The Battle of Leipzig is by far more important, by the time of Waterloo it was over already for him but at Leipzig it was all decided.

He could have still won, but sadly outnumbered two to one and not able to actually stand on his horse because of his illness ( and thus leaving the battle to his able marshals but nowhere near his skill ) he lost.

"Remember to always flank your enemies. History will not care how dramatic your failed frontal assault looked."

That being said - When you have a very large landmass and have just gone through what amounts to a nearly crushing defeat amounting to a loss of 380,000 men to General Winter and a logistical nightmare, even if you are an absolutely brilliant military strategist, you should probably not make an effort to further ****** off every other European power that isnt under your thumb.....

Multi-front wars are a logistical nightmare and just in general a bad position to be in.

Frederick is indeed great, but it's literally a miracle that saved him. "The miracle of the House of Branderburg".

In my current playthrough of Sins, I managed to be allied with every single faction of the game for the most part, being an economic and diplomatic powerhouse (thus paying everyone to fight each other). I only declared war on a faction, because I needed to expand, as another faction is threatening to rival my economy (the campaign was lighting swift thanks to novalith cannons).

Of course being so rich, I asked that same faction (let's call him A) to assist me, while telling two other factions to attack A's undefended colonies, since A is committing his forces in my star system.

Oh I love doing that. Hitting dozens of birds with one stone.

I never got that far into the Sins really.

Probably never will since Oblivion has sucked me in.

Where else can I offer up yarn and lettuce to myself?

Rule 1 of war in in the first chapter of the art of war.

Do NOT march on Moscow. The logistical requirements to do so are simply insane.

Unless you happen to have airfields right on the border and are able to ensure that without fail you will be capable of airlifting all supplies to all aspects of the front without allowing any to fall int the hands of the enemy

Rule 2. Don't count on securing Moscow, the Russians would rather burn it than let you take it.

Rule 3. Why would you want to take Russia in the first place?

It's because epic fail trumps a million decent successes in history. You get remembered more for how badly you screw up, no matter out good you were prior.

Are you saying that Loghain wears a corset? Ew.

I just can't see Loghain as a man who'd let himself slip. He's one of those guys you see in their seventies still going to the gym and still playing tennis with his cronies.
