Yea, some of the dialogue options with Wynne were extremily idiotic. Like she says something so basic and that everyone knows and we say "What do you mean?", implying that either her words were so deep, complex and full of wisdom that we need further explanation (which they are not), or that the Warden is stupid.

So I ended up rping that this was Arcturus' favorite pass time. Pretend like he doesn't know ****.

Problem is, if I declare war without reason, I get a relationship loss with  all of my lords, because all of a sudden, they are all pacifists.

Did they sign up truly thinking that I'd settle for anythign less than the whole of Calradia?
That being said, I am getting a relationship drop every month because of my policies (anti-feudal policies). So I think I'll declare war soon and distribute the loot amongst all of them for a relationship boost.

When I play games I am usually the benevolent dictator.

The normal people all love me to pieces and think I am simply the best thing since ever.
The nobles dont like me ever.

I wish I could find the game I was playing in 2005 since it was a mod of Myth 2.

Let you decide how to do so much stuff and have an actual city mechanic.
There was just me at the top and then people who ran stuff in the middle.

Most of them were commenors though. But they all loved me because they never went hungry, the city was clean, and well my theathers, arenas, pubs, and brothels were all cheap.

Fun mod but I cant find it.:pinched:

Yea, I am always pro-commoners and especially merchants. Can't stand aristocracies. My capital city of Dhirim is fiercely devoted to me. Most cities are ranked as loyal.

Of course this is determined by doing quests for each city's guild. Not really policies, which is meh.

I want a real RPG wargame / civ simulator!!

I had the merchants eating out of my hands.

ZERO tariffs and very few taxes.

They did have to agree to what I wanted for prices though. Both for buying and selling.

They mostly agreed since there were no monsters on my roads, and the witches were all working for me.

I hated the damn goblins though they kept raiding me no matter how hard I tried to wipe them out.

They even started demanding TRIBUTE!

Goblins demanding tribute? lol

And yea, I set low taxes as well. I have a rather big treasury and a substantial income anyways.

The merchants did not care that they made SLIGHTLY less money then elsewhere.

They did not have to hire guards, and it was easy for them to sell off everything and buy up whatever they wanted.

Bloody goblins though made me want to scream. They had slings and spent an HOUR showering my soldiers with rocks. Did not kill anyone but I could not chase them down for a long time.

Then I bought crossbows and butchered the little bastards.

When I used to play Civilization: Call to Power, I went through three phases of govornmental shift: republic in ancient times, fascism in modern times, then technocracy in future times. I was basically a mad dictator with world domination plans who merciliessly conquored and nuked everything in sight.

Twas fun. I do enjoy civic/military strategy games.

That evolution in government actually makes a lot of sense.

I would play Civ V, but what I saw of the combat was meh. Yes I enjoy building civilizations, but military is also important. And apparently diplomacy in the game is broken. Granted, no game came close to potraying diplomacy well, except maybe Sins of a Solar Empire Diplomacy micro-expansion.

Also I am not a fan of having a time period that is too large. It risks being shallow and not detailed for each time period taken individually.

Civ 5 is not really that fun for me.

I am really looking forward to Shogun 2 though because its already known that the combat and campaign AI is very smart now.

I hope that means that the diplomacy AI is improved too.

I am still confused about the time period in Shogun 2.
If it's about Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi and especially Tokugawa, then I might consider it.

Shogun 2 is set in 16th-century feudal Japan, in the aftermath of the Ōnin War. The country is fractured into rival clans led by local warlords, each fighting for control. The player takes on the role of one of these warlords, with the goal of dominating other factions and claiming his rule over Japan. The game will feature a total of eight factions plus a ninth faction for the tutorial, each with a unique starting position and different political and military strengths.[4][5]

Yes, I know, but will Nobunaga and Toyotomi be in then? They should be.

And Sekigahara was in 1600....I am sure they can extend the 16th century by one year only...right?

Maybe.

16th century is 1501 to 1600 and that covers the time frame of Ieysasu and friends.

Should be interesting to see.

That evolution in government actually makes a lot of sense.

Yeah, especially for a military power. It lent me better stats for production and scientific development. I balanced out the less financial/economic points by having tons and tons of trade. So I ended up dominating my enemies pretty quickly.

What civilization building/military strategy games would you suggest? Haven't played one in ages, and I have the itch to do so.

I thought Civ 4, although it had its issues, was by far the best game in the franchise. I liked it mostly because every decision you made to get something you wanted had an opportunity cost (e.g. you want to be first and discover a religion? Go ahead, but you won't have iron for a while).

Civ 5 basically only has one mechanic that limits expansion and has taken many of different ways one could build an civilization from Civ 4 (e.g. you could go specialist economy or cottages, I never knew which was best but both worked) and streamlined things so there's one best way with no real opportunity costs.  Just get the luxury resources and build collesiums and you're good to go.

In hate the phrase "dumbed down," but I'll put it like this. On Civ 4, which I played hours and hours I could only beat Emperor level after over a year of figuring out the nuances of the game and still only with some luck in the beginning. With Civ 5, I beat Emperor level difficulty 2 weeks after getting the game.

I don't think this would be considered as civ bulding, but Sins of a Solar Empire, especially with its two micro-expansions (entrenchement and diplomacy), is an excellent space based real time strategy game, with Empire building (real time!). Sins Tinity has the original game plus the 2 expansions, for a very reasonable price last time I checked.

You can literally, in the space of a few seconds, soom in on a single fighter, and zoom out all the way up where you can see a solar system, or several if you play on a big map.

If you're interested, I can provide more info. But it's not a civ builder and you can't pick your type of government and stuff like that.  It has 3 factions.

So it's RTS? What sort of factions are there?

It's a RT4X. Real time 4 X strategy game. The 4 Xs are "explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate"
Set in space.

The 3 factions are:

- The Trade Emergency Coalition (TEC):
Your basic humans. Straight foward, strong and sturdy. Their ships are generally well armored and reasonably cheap. They are an economic powerhouse.

- Vasari:
Aliens, with a dying population living in huge ships. Their ships are generally above average, but more expensive. Higher health than the others and they have missiles that can bypass shields. They are the masters of phase space and with sufficient technology, can create artificial phase lines (planets are linked by phase lines for ships to move from planet to plaent. The Vasari can create artifical ones)

- Advent:
-religously fanatical humans seemingly made up of psychic females only (my favorite faction). Their ships look elegant and have higher shields than the others and usually more complementary abilities (vs the straightfowardness of TEC). They are the more culturally oriented faction.

That's the very basic.description. There are more differences between them.
