I like it already. :police:

[quote]The 3 factions are:

- The Trade Emergency Coalition (TEC):
Your basic humans. Straight foward, strong and sturdy. Their ships are generally well armored and reasonably cheap. They are an economic powerhouse.

- Vasari:
Aliens, with a dying population living in huge ships. Their ships are generally above average, but more expensive. Higher health than the others and they have missiles that can bypass shields. They are the masters of phase space and with sufficient technology, can create artificial phase lines (planets are linked by phase lines for ships to move from planet to plaent. The Vasari can create artifical ones)

- Advent:
-religously fanatical humans seemingly made up of psychic females only (my favorite faction). Their ships look elegant and have higher shields than the others and usually more complementary abilities (vs the straightfowardness of TEC). They are the more culturally oriented faction.

That's the very basic.description. There are more differences between them.

Sounds good. How old is it graphically, as in drain on system resources? I have a pretty recent and decent computer, but some games that are graphic intensive do drain a lot.

And what exactly are you doing: conquering planets, exploiting resources, building military bases and such?

I don't think it will be too much trouble. You may not be able to play it on max quality, but it should work well.
System specs.

And unless you pick diplomatic victory (with the diplomacy expansion), your goal is basically to conquer everything.
You colonise planets. If they are owned by another faction, you bombard it till you kill everyone and then colonize it. Or, if your culture spreads to a planet, you can wait til the populace revolts against the faction and make the planet neutral, which you can colonise.

Each planet has logistic and tactical slots. Logistics refer to buildings like weapon or civic labs, frigate / capital ship factories, media centers, trade center, refinery...etc.
Tactical emcompasses defenses, hangars, shield generator, phase inhibitor, repair station, and an ultimate experimental weapon (unique for each faction).

Also each planet has several asteroids, producing either metal or crystal, the two ressources in the game other than credits, which you can get from taxes and trade (and sellign in the black market).

Each planet also has development reseaches, like to increase logistics, tactical slots, infrastructure (to resist bombardement better), exploration (iunlocks bonuses or artifacts). There is also a development / population research. You have to pay an underdevelopment tax for each planet unless you spend money to develop it (should act as an obstacle to very fast expansions). Then you can extract taxes from then.

With Entrenchement micro-expansion, each faction can produce a Starbase.  Starbases are huge facilities that can be customised and upgradeded via reasearch. You can have 8 upgrades for each, but they have more than that. Not all of their upgrades are unique however, most of them are about expanding on a previous upgrade. For instance, one upgrade gives the starbase a hangar bay that can support two fighter squadrons. An additional research can expand that to 6....etc.
Starbases cannot move, except the Vasari one (but it cannot leave a planetary field).

There are also pirates and bounty. Pirates periodically attack the faction that has the highest bounty. So being rich can be very useful and that's how I play.

Thanks, KoP. The game sounds pretty awesome. I'll have to pick it up off of Amazon UK. I do like a good RTS. Last one I played was Spellforce, which was part RPG part strategy. But no pure strategy games since Dune 2000.

Too bad I can't play as pirates, and just rob everyone blind. That would rock! :)

I recommend the trinity version, with the 2 micro expansions. It's at 40$ on Impulse.

I just looked on Amazon, and I can get it from a side retailer for £14.95 (trinity version). So that's pretty awesome right there.

Even better, since side retailers on Amazon usually use the Royal mail, which means it will actually get here.

Oh, cool.
I should learn to stop giving people financial advice because I suck lol

You might find it a bit overwhelming at first., but you have experienc in the strategy genre and the game is acceptbile and noob friendly. Still, if you need any help, you know where to find me!

Just ordered it. God, if it wasn't for the internet, I would go mad trapped in this isolated, mutant infested village. Being able to order books and games in English, and have them in my mail box, is about the only thing keeping me from my old pasttime, casual explosives making.

Niiice. You can post screenies and talk about it here!

Hmm...now I want to start a game in it. M&B is boring me with all its peace and quiet. It's been a while since I played Vasari.

I will let you know when it arrives. Which will be in my mailbox probably within a week or less. That should tell you how bad the Spanish private sector is: the state run mail service, Correro Espana (can't figure out how to tilde) is far more reliable, honest, and superior than the local private outfit, which is useless.

Yea, I'm going to take a break from M&B and play Sins. I'll share stuff every once and a while.

Yep. But i dont feel like I am missing out on anything about talking to Wynne as an adult. I usually just introduce myself to her with two razor sharp daggers or a fireball on her face and that tends to convey the dialogue I wished for her to hear.

I like your thinking. Wynne should really be called Fayle.

As vasari. This is my starting planet.
And this is my baby fleet

1 kortul devastator capital ship. And 4 ravastra skirmisher frigates. 4 more on the way.

I forgot how nice the Vasari soundtrack is.

I've beaten the Russians at Friedland....ffs how I hate when you cannot employ conventional tactics of the time to win ( I left Lannes to get slaughtered, set up my artillery on a hill and held it against the overwhelming Russian assault ).

Then I fought Waterloo in the historic battles ( rather then from the campaign screen ). Thing is that there Wellington has highly ranked troops while yours are not so good. ( In reality Napoleon had the superior army ).

So this means Alistair and Loghain could've had a "who gets the cheese" banter if they were both in the party...

Certainly a better method of deciding the Landsmeet than we had in game.

If you think about it (and take the cutting the child in half metaphorically), it's actually pretty wise. Shows the difference between genuine love and selfish attachment.

So now we know that Loghain loves cheese a lot, while Alistair would probably be in favor of splitting it in half (if it's the Warden who has the cheese) :P

LOL!    It does sound like a wacky Landsmeet.  He's even named Gareth.  It was fate.  :wizard:

@KoP: Yeah, I remember that was one of my favorite Bible stories in Sunday school when I was a kid. I'll never quite see it the same way after watching that video, now, lol. Loghain and Alistair fighting with one another over a wheel of cheese in the Landsmeet while wise Warden presides...., and Loghain's completely selfless love of the cheese wins!

@Addai: Oh, wow, now that you mention it...lol!

 Okay.

I can officially not wait anymore to start playing Shogun 2.
SHOGUN 2 BATTLE TRAILER.

I have loved the total war series since I first played Rome Total war and now am so excited to start playing Shogun 2.
It really looks like its going to be one of the best Total War games ever.
It really looks amazing and I cant wait to play an AI that is clever and not just cheating with boosted stats and extra health.

edit: Plus tell me that the samurai in black is not bad ass right here:
