@Morwen Eledhwen: That's no great mystery. Immediately after "Fortunate for me, then, that I've always been a man to take chances. (Wry) I'm hardly blind to the irony of this situation" it goes to "All of this can rightly be called my fault..." like how all the hostile responses go to "Despite what we each..." I just didn't copy that over.

Always good to know I'm not crazy. Some days that's easier to believe than others. ;)

Thank you all! Hopefully the chapter will be worth your efforts. There will be snark.

Alrighty, even though Sarah came to save the day it was still interesting to run these dialogues.

The testy you have to prove yourself options for -6 approval

The friendly I think you're kinda cool options for +32 approval

The go crawl in a hole and die options for -20 approval

Loghain has some awesome dialogue, that's all there is to it.

It's also good to have those scenes on youtube.

It's good to know that when my standard first conversation yields +32 that you can't get any higher (although not so good to know that it's impossible to get friendly on a vanilla version)

Putting this on my "Must read" list. Gorgeous new avvie, Addai!

Thank you.  :)  She's what I consider my canon character I guess.  Just got tired of looking at Ellie's face and I'm too inept and lazy to get custom avatars to upload.

Oh, and that link I posted... well, the story seems to put Loghain and everyone else rather OOC.  So just be warned.

Loghain convo videos are never a waste and always appreciated. I needed the words in print but it's always great to hear them. I know my own Loghain dialogue is working if I can hear him saying it as I read. :)

I have been replaying Rome Total War as Carthage.

Did not waste my time going through the alps and did a landing at Rome and Sparta at the same time.

While getting involved in a very nasty war with Egypt.

Things are all going well though and I should have the Romans, Greeks, and Macedonians taken out soon enough.

Just have to deal with those annoying Egyptians who keep sending armies of chariots after me.

With my diplomatic skills and powerhouse economy, I am at peace with everyone and paying everyone to kill everyone. While developing my technology and colonizing two distant star systems.

And I freakin love the Antorak Marauder capital ship. Speed and artificial phase stabilizers for surgical strikes, perfectly fits my style.

I am in charge of practically all sea trade in the med.

Egypt still finds it funny to spam chariots at me.

They will learn soon enough what that shall cost them.

Especially when he tells you to curse in dwarven or elven language and he'll pretend to understand what you're saying. :D

And hi Morwen!! :wizard:

Now I'm getting more excited about the impending arrival of this game than I am the release of DA2.  It's going to be a long weekend. Further compounded by the fact my husband's semi-adopted son from Lithuiania is coming to stay for a week, so I will unlikely have much time to break it in once I get it.

But I am getting quite excited about it. It will also give me something to do while I wait for the release of mods that will allow me to finally play my canons

DragonRacer, my fellow PS3er, would it be possible for you to run through this convo for me just to make sure the PS3 dialogue isn't somehow different from the PC's? My Mage's responses were:

“I may have to resort to magic next.” (Yes, I know, my Warden is a Mage, but I didn't like any of the other options and so decided that she would say this one ironically.)
“The plan loses something when you're the one suggesting it.”
“We’re going to have to work together.”
“I need to know I can trust you.”
“I’m giving you a chance; I want you to take it.”
“We will find a way to end this Blight.”

Thanks to everyone for being so helpful!

Well, looks like Sarah and Addai pretty much hooked you up (love your naming conventions, Addai. I laughed at the "go crawl in a hole and die" convo name for the looooongest time...). But for a fellow PS3er's peace of mind, here is the console conversation verbatim using all your dialogue picks. Just as a disclaimer, this convo uses a male blood mage of mine... I don't think it would be any different for your female mage, but I did want to put that out there. The only female mage I have on file is elven, so that might change dialogue, and is... still sitting in Ostagar because I got distracted by a shiny (a.k.a. my male dwarf commoner that I am in luuuurve with currently Image IPB ).

Loghain: "I passed your test. Fate has a twisted sense of humor, it seems. I suppose you think I'm some sort of monster. More so since I survived your ritual; you keep striking at me, and I just refuse to die decently."

Mage: "I may have to resort to magic next."

Loghain: "Oh? What was all that nonsense with darkspawn blood and mages, then? A puppet show? It seems to me that magic has already failed. I'd recommend a sharp knife in the kidneys next time. Less impressive, but it gets the job done."

Mage: "The plan loses something when you're the one suggesting it."

Loghain: "I suppose it does lack the element of surprise. Well, what shall we do to settle things between us, then?"

Mage: "We're going to have to work together."

Loghain: "Is that punishment meant for me or for you? And just like that, we're allies? I can't imagine it's so simple. I don't know what concession you want from me, Warden. I expect my word will not satisfy you."

Mage: "I need to know I can trust you."

Loghain: "Nothing I can say will prove that. Either I will be worthy of trust, or I won't. I think it's time we got to the point here: What do you want from me? I can't imagine that you spared my life in the Landsmeet by accident. You have some plan in mind."

Mage: "I'm giving you a chance; I want you to take it."

Loghain: "Fortunate for me, then, that I've always been a man to take chances. I'm hardly blind to the irony of the situation. All of this can rightly be called my fault. Whether or not you can do better remains to be seen. But if you can make this the end, Warden, I will follow you. I swear it."

Mage: "We will find a way to end this Blight."

Loghain: "Andraste help us, then. We should speak no more of this at present. Time's wasting."

And you net +23 approval from the ol' boy. Image IPB

You can even get plus 40 with that first conversation! :P

@DragonRacer: Yep, that convo you transcribed is exactly what happened with my HF Mage, +23 approval and all. Thanks for confirming it, and thanks to everyone for their help! :)

Also thanks to Addai for using an unmodded Loghain with eyebags in full effect :)

Heh, yes I ended up taking out the anti-eyebag mod when I was trying to get Alistair to look like Alistair.  Plus I've learned that people on YouTube freak out if you have modded characters.

Hee!  I thought that dialogue had some good insight, like that he admits it hurts a little to be called a failure.

Probably the religous psychic chicks. You know, female dominion and all. Unless of course the aliens seem pretty cool.

But most likely the psychic chicks. They remind me of a more aggresive, militant Bene Gesserit. Who are like, my idols.

All factions are cool, but yea the Advent are my favorite. Plus they originate from desert planets, so I feel a kinship a bit.

And I think they turned all the males into cyborgs or something. The game doesn't have an extensive lore, just the basics. Which is a shame, it would have been interesting to have a story mode.

But the aliens, Vasari, are cool too. I am playing them now and I love them!

They have to be pretty powerful to wipe out a whole fleet of the Vasari.

You want to institute intergalactic breeding programs?  lol

I scoured dA but alas no new Loghain arts today.  Other than a WIP sketch of Loghain and Maric hunting that has awesome promise.

That's what the main site has to say about them:

"The origins of the Advent began well before recorded history. It is said they began as one of many broken peoples who sought spiritual escape on peripheral worlds following the great wars.

The earliest known records trace back to the formation of the Trade Order. At its inception, the Order sent emissaries to recruit all known inhabited planets into the organization. One such group discovered a single desert world orbiting a massive red star surprisingly populated by a thriving civilization. Excited by the profitability of this potential market, the Order authorized immediate integration and the emissaries initiated contact. The representatives of the planet decidedly rejected the membership offer.

Not willing to accept failure, the Order sent a series of market research teams to acquire data that could be used to formulate a more elaborate strategy. They received a single, incomplete report containing disturbing information.

Shocking acts of deviancy, at every level of society, violated the venerable taboos common to all the Trader Worlds. Sinful cerebral integration technologies, unrestricted biological experimentation, strange forms of collectivism, and the wholesale usage of countless neurochemicals were but a few of the transgressions.
The Trader Worlds overwhelmingly voted that such an aberration had no place within the territories of their new Order. With an instinctive fear, the Traders took control of the planet by force and exiled the inhabitants far into uncharted space.

The exiles would integrate the story of their origins into myths and prophecies. They believed that their destiny was to exact retribution and assume their rightful place in the galaxy. One thousand years later, when it became clear that the rare and precious resources that empowered their unique way of life approached exhaustion, the society unanimously decided to return their original home and fulfill their prophecies."

Ideologically speaking, I would be mostly against them (screw collectivism), but I ascribe no taboos to technological advancement and what the TEC did was a waste of potential. Subjugate them and learn from them yes, don't exile them you idiots.
But eh I rarely if ever pick my side in RTSs based on ideology, except probably Medieval RTSs.

Come to think of it, I am not sure why I like the Advent the most, considering that my play style is close to all three factions (economic powerhouse of the TEC, technology and culture of the Advent, precise and advanced pseudo-guerilla strategies of the Vasari). Maybe because of the general ambience, style and their soundtrack. Or maybe cause all I hear is women with high pitched psychic voices...hmmm (in contrast the Vasari sound annoying sometimes).
