Never liked Loghain mutch... He might have a deep storyline but he's not a noble man... Never will be. He's letting pride get in the way and does not see clearly... I don't HATE him... But never had him in my party either.

He's certainly letting his prejudice against Orlais and the Grey Wardens get in the way of stopping the Blight but his pride?

Sins of a Solar Empire just came today. YAY! I'm going to install it now and get a massacreing right away :D.

Oooh goodie! How's it going?

Pretty awesome! Been playing around with the tutorial, and getting used to the game mechanics and such. The graphics are awesome, and the gameplay seems complex enough to be engaging without frustration.

And the Advent rocks.:wizard:B)

Glad you like it! Playing Diplomacy right? It includes all the new stuff from entrenchment.

Pride as in he refused to back down or change course, even when he realized how wrong he was (before landsmeet). He won't submit unless you beat him into submission.

Yeah, lovin it. For a first time playthrough, which scenario would you recommend? I saw the list of scenarios, but didn't really know which one to go for.

I don't know each map perfectly, especially since I've been playing on very big maps for a long time.
But I would recomend a medium scenario. Small maps will have your enemy rush you. Medium is big enough to give you space and breathing room, but small enough not to be too overwhelming.

But I don't know each map specifically to tell which is best.
You can have an ally with you to make it easier. And in the game options, you can lock teams, so that ally wouldn't betray you. At first, I used to play with locked teams too. But once you're used to the game, unlocked teams, with diplomacy, is much more fun.

LOL It is all thanks to your Loghainistair morph.  Couldn't have done it without you.  Image IPB  Now I'm taken with seeing him do the tango.

It is Arrangement canon that Celia taught him to dance, after all.  Image IPB

Need a way to revive the thread. What do you think Loghain's forte is? Do you think he is better at conventional tactics and strategies, or guerrilla warfare?

I think Loghain is better at mixed unit tactics based around infantry.

The Orlesians sound like they prefer using heavy calvary really.

Probably he used tactics like Wallace and Robert Bruce would have used against the English.

I'll go with "both." He started out as a rogue type in a mostly guerrilla army, but having spent the better part of his life as peacetime general, I imagine he would be just as versed in the conventional warfare of the setting. I imagine he got some schooling in conventional tactics from Rowan on all those nights by the campfire in the Bannorn.

His first involvement was a pitched battle though. And of curse the River Dane. Guerrilla warfare is generally about avoiding pitched battles. So I am not sure he was entirely guerrilla fighting in the war of Independence. It's only with the night elves really.

His background is more of a rogue's background, though. His father was sergeant at arms, but he basically grew up on the run as bandit and hunter. He does seem to have a natural affinity for strategy which shows itself the minute he walks into the rebel camp.

Gonna say Guerrilla warfare. He did spend most of his youth on the run from Orlesians, and he was even aware enough of his surroundings to be vaguely aware of elves, even if he couldn't see them at first. Definitely a scout/ranger type, who was rather forced into military tactics when Maric made him a knight.

Strikes me as a border reiver kind of chap who branched out into large scale chevauchee.

One would assume the borderlands of Ferelden are conducive to such tactics and the superiority of well positioned foot showing its strength over the usual reliance on the chivalrous charge.

I keep thinking of Hereward the Wake.

I have been watching Legacy of Kain stuff.... and came across a brilliant Loghain moment....never mind that it's Simon THE VOICE Templeman delivering those lines:

"Conscience...? You dare speak to me of conscience? Only when you have felt the full gravity of choice should you dare to question my judgment! Your life’s span is a flicker compared to the mass of doubt and regret that I have borne since Mortanius first turned me from the light..."

I wish I played those games. Now I am interested in the lore of all a sudden! What was Kain's plan I wonder.

It seems that I am going to have to hold off on it. My husband (who I am contemplating reaching up his rectum and cutting out his liver with a butter knife) was on the troof tearrace of our house firing his air rifle at the catctuses on the hillside in our garden. Something I told him time and time again not to do because of the colony of stray cats we tend. As well as our own. And lo and behold, guess what. He shot my little Missy in the eye. She was gone for two days, terrified of my husband whom she normally loves. So now that I found her and got her home, we have to take her to the vet. She will probably Lose the eye (she was a Siamese mix, and had the most beautiful blue eyes), but I am just glad she is home safe.

Sorry about the personal life rant. So tell me, folks, what would Loghain do in this situation? <_<:(. Grrrrr............................

That's good....for a start.... maybe brass knuckles to "enhance" the lesson.....

@KoP: I think she will live, which is the most important thing to me right now. Sadly, though, her eye has been destroyed, and shall have to be removed.

@Addai: Yeah. I can't begin to tell you how many times I've berated him for doing this. He's in quite a state right now. Normally, when some tragedy strikes, I'd be trying to comfort him, but in this case....no. Our kitty is going to lose her eye, but thankfully, not her life. He has earned his guilty conscience, and I hope his grief will learn him a painful lesson: firearms, even air rifles, are not toys to be casually played with by idiot boys. You would think a 67 year old man would know better. Some boys just never grow up, though.

Grrr.......Here's some Loghain awesomeness to focus my fury:  (berating Cailan for being a careless idiot...so appropriate for my mood now.....<_<
