As an expert on Roman history, what do you think of the comparison?

I'm happy to report Missy seems to have fully recovered, already crying at the door to go outside and play with her friends. Too bad she has to wait another 3 weeks or so.
And I'm on my final push in SOASE to wipe out the Vasari, with the TEC neutralized. That will make 3 star systems I own completely. Treachery is so awesome.

And yea, treachery always makes me feel warm inside, when I am not on the receiving end of course. It's more awesome if your TEC and have all of your novalith cannons bombard your ex-ally's planets.

Or in my case, plant a couple star bases in each star's gravity well, then bring drones in to mine them to the max (all while at peace/in an alliance with them) and plant star bases on every possible world with evangelical nodes/induced reverence/unswerving loyalty, and have a couple of deliverance engines firing, and keep the alliances going through envoys. Then, when ready, remove all envoys, stop giving them resources, amp up the pirate raids, and make them break the treaties. Repeat as necessary with next "ally".
Suddenly, the TEC was blockaeded in their own star system, and were losing planets left and right to the Unity. Hell, by mid game, I stopped making purge vessels, since there were fewer and fewer heathen worlds to purge.
And I did this all through carefully managed peace, watching in delight at TEC and Vasari fleets wasted each other in my gravity wells while I watched on in neutrality, building trade fleets and playing the market, and paying the pirates to keep them busy. I feel like a treacherous, manipulative, backstabbing worm right now.
Tis awesome.

Goaded the both of them into attacking the other and the swallowed their cities up while their armies where away.
THen killed their leaders with my best assassins in the game. Although Egypt is really taking a while to wear out and keeps sending armies at me over the Nile.

Thread died because there's too much talk about games that have no relevance to Dragon Age. Not just one or two mentions, but the last umpteen pages. I guess, after a year, that us regulars have run out of things to say about the big man, maybe? (And I'm sorry, but screenshots of strategy games bore me s***less).
I am playing the game a bit again, though- amazingly enough. I was pretty sure I was totally burned out. But I took Not-Ellie through Awakening and the golems DLC. Now I've got an Amell character I'd kinda like to finish. She's an AW blood mage and romancing Zevran (though none of the romances quite fit her), and if I do finish it she'll be my Drunkistair game. She's a 2h arcane warrior- using a mod that lets her get 2h talents- and gameplay-wise a lot of fun. She would also heart Loghain, I'm sure. But, due to burnout and the fact that her character concept doesn't fit the game well, I'm not very motivated. The Deep Roads is hard enough to get through when you are.

I'm about to enter the Deep Roads with my Dalish archer and am actually looking forward to it --the Deep Roads are relatively easy to get through if you just concentrate on the Orzammar quest stuff rather than covering every inch of every thaig in one go. Then after Landsmeet I go back and clean up the rest of it. Maybe others would prefer to get them over with and never go back, but I find splitting them up into two waves breaks up the tedium quite a bit. I also have the facts that this is my first archer Rogue, and my first Bard, to hold my interest. The actual Orzammar part of the Orzammar quest is where I really grit my teeth and swear at the television. There are only a handful of dwarves in that place I wouldn't happily chuck into the lava. Dagna, of course, is cute as a damn button and I wish I could steal her.
I have a feeling this Dalish might also recruit Loghain. The slavery thing is going to make things dicey, but she may take the attitude that the City Elves should never have submitted to living as second-class citizens to humans in the first place. Morrigan expressed a similar opinion in the Circle tower about the Mages who let themselves be shut up and herded by Templars, and my Dalish agreed that she had a point --which, if you've never chosen that dialogue option, will cause Wynne to pick a fight with you and force you to kill her in order to gain entrance to the Tower and wipe out the abominations. Oops. So that's going to be another interesting thing about this trip through the Deep Roads: I have no healer.

Is your Dalish a ranger? I played my Dalish ranger/archer some recently, too, and that was fun. I love my little wolf buddies.

@Morwen, I almost never have a dedicated healer in the party. I set everyone to take potions at 50 health and Morrigan to heal ally at 75 and that usually takes care of it. But, I also pause and play quite a bit.

I set everyone to take potions at <25 and Morrigan to heal at <50 but she doesn't always do it. I just don't like to have to carry around that many potions, I guess  I also don't like to pause and play --or rather, I pause at the beginning of battle to target the biggest PITA in the mob and try to put them out of commission, but then I just like to roll with it. I didn't have Wynne for Orzammar last time, either, but I did have 2 mages, so not only could we each heal, but I could leave Morrigan in camp if I wanted to. Now, we'll have to see. I guess I might as well get used to fighting without her before I have to tackle Flemeth.
Yes, my Dalish is a Ranger. It was a safe option for her first specialization because it gave her a sort-of melee attack while she (while I) was still learning to be an effective archer --but it also makes sense for a Dalish IMO. I like my Wolf buddy but I've been using the Bear more often lately --my DC was also a Ranger and she used the wolf quite a bit, so I'm looking for a changeup. (Actually, funny story: My DC's wolf was what ended her duel with Loghain, which resulted in a bug of Loghain delivering his "I yield" speech against a background scene of his own self lying on the Landsmeet chamber floor having his insides gnawed out by my wolf. . .oops.)

I used the Summon Persists mod to keep the pet alive across cutscenes and area transitions. It does bug cutscenes sometimes. As for healing, I'll do whatever I have to do in order not to have Wynne in my party. For Morrigan, not sure why she's not Healing for you- it has a quick cooldown. I assume you also have her set to take a lyrium pot if her mana is low- also Heal should be hear the top of her tactics queue. Can't think why else she wouldn't. I love those little blue blasts she gives during battle. Yay for Morri.

Yes, she quaffs lyrium potions at mana <10%. I think I just have her Heal tactic too far down the queue. I don't want to put it too near the top b/c I don't want her to default to it, but I should probably bump it up a couple of notches. I think I leave it where it is because it seems so in character for her to ignore it --"What? I'm sorry, did you tell me to do something? Too busy casting Cone of Cold right now, can't hear you. . ."

I'm waiting patiently (okay, not so patiently) for my ff.net account to activate so I can post "Unbound" there. The formatting on this forum does not make for good story-posting, especially if you have paragraphs longer than 5 or 6 lines. Even I find my chapters difficult to read in this tiny, cramped print.

I have a "parked" game of DA as well (my avatar atm) - also a blood mage, but I got bored and after my Windows reinstall I've been finding Oblivion rather more interesting (I'd had to abandon Oblivion a couple of years back after it developed a death bug and became unplayable).
I guess DA2 won't be too far off, but whether it has a character I'm as enamoured with as Loggy, I don't know. And doubt. But we'll see.

I got Oblivion GOTY and DA:O at about the same time (yes, I know I was a little late on the Oblivion thing); I started games on both just to see what they were like but got sucked into DA:O and never went back to Oblivion. I will, of course --just not sure when, now. I'll finish my Dalish playthrough for sure and then we'll see. It may also depend on where I am with the fic --I may want to stay immersed in Ferelden while I'm writing. *shrugs*

I'm finally getting DA2 feevah, so I'll be playing that as soon as it comes out. Definitely going to finish TA one way or another. I figure I've got 10 more chapters to go, as the pace will pick up a bit in the Blight.

I still don't think he's entirely excusable for some of his actions, but he's definitely off the "irredeemable villain" list (if it was ever reasonable that he should be there at all). Mostly it's a relief that I'm not necessarily supposed to hate him, because I always felt like the game script was sort of forcing the issue, and I couldn't swallow that. ;^;
