Anyway...back to off-topic discussion. Since there has been no game coming out this year so far that was an awesome production ( except Dead Space 2, but that bored me since after a few hours everything in terms of how monsters where going to attack you was very predictable ) I have had nothing to play ( DA:O, ME2, SC2, WoW, Awakening, Total War games have been replayed so many times it's no fun anymore to do any of them. )
So I picked up an old game called Age of Wonders 2, and I was reminded of the incredible awesomeness of this little game that was released something close to a decade ago.
A TBS which puts any Heroes of Might and Magic game to shame in terms of gameplay...the story sucks, ( seriously your Hero is named Merlin on some quest for a guy named Gabriel, leader of the world's circle of Magi of a dozen mages who all rebelled against him and created their Empires to try and conquer the world, to stop said mages.) but the gameplay is incredible.
You a gameplay similar to say Medieval or Rome Total War, but you also have your Wizard which can cast spells to help in battle, though spells are related to a different resource: mana. You can also use spells in the world map to summon units ( which do have a mana upkeep ), damage enemy cities or buff your armies ( again with a mana upkeep per unit buffed ).
Mana is generated from cities with certain structures and automatically, though your Wizard can also research new spells and even certain skills that will help your empire ( better production, income etc. ) but this can only be done at the cost of your mana income. Then there is also to consider the fact you cannot cast spells wherever you want. Your Wizard has a range in the world, hugely increased by placing him in a town with a Wizard's Tower, and also giving him the ability to cast spells in a small square around your heroes.
Heroes are buffed up units which have inventory, level up and have leadership skills. They can be carried through a certain number of missions ( as can your research in spells and skills ) and are instrumental if you want to win on the highest difficulty.
There also structures like mines/windmills etc. that increase your income ( more if say you are a Earth Wizard with a mine ), Scout Towers which allow you to see over a large of the map, ruins with guardians and artifacts, Elemental Nodes which increase your power over a certain element. Spirits which you can worship for bonuses in a specific town that can reward you for performing certain missions for them but also can destroy your armies if you do not play by their rules ( like destroying a town while worshiping the Spirit of Order will ****** him off ).
Air Units, Air Transports and ofc sea units.
