Banter.

Might have been better if it was in camp though.

I could get dialogue with Dog and other party members in camp, but I couldn't with Loghain. That's why I wasn't sure if it was approval based.

And that's my other question, is it party banter or does it happen in camp?

It's definitely banter that occurs outside of camp.

"You would rather make love to a dessiccated corpse than me? My, but you are full of the unexpected."

That's Morrigan's response to Loghains comment about his dead wife.

Yep, that's my Morrigan Posted Image

Seriously, she basically owns everyone in any discussioin, one exception being Sten (and maybe Zevran).

Thanks, all. I'll have to make sure Dog (who I have shamelessly named Dane this time) is a proper party member when the time comes.

And no, there's no shame in shedding tears when pets die. I remember when we had to put our yellow Lab to sleep. My dad had to carry her to the car and I knew she wouldn't come back. I have a cat now who's far more like a dog than he'd like to admit, and even though he's only two and half, I can't imagine a time when I have to let him go.

Well Wynne gets an in on her near the last banter they have.

Also in the restored banter, her and Leliana really go at it.

Trouble with being english is I miss all the best debate (slash argument) while I'm sleeping. Sigh.

The dog banters are particularly touching, but I enjoy his banter with Zevran. And he's about the only person (other than Morrigan) who can tell Wynne to STFU. That's part of why I love him.

Just a little expert from an upcoming fanfiction chapter of mine.

Loghain could feel the throbbing pain in his skull. With the Darkspawn advancing through the wilds it was only a matter of weeks until they reached Ostagar, and as a result he had slept a mere two hours while the rest of his time had been spent setting up a plan for their defense.

'A defense. We might as well throw ourselves on our swords and be done with it.' He thought grimly. He, like every other general in Thedas, knew that when stuck in a defense you might as well surrender, but Cailan was adamant that they fight, even though every general, captain and commander had cried out for retreat.

The Grey Wardens themselves seemed to relish the idea of retreat, all but their Commander that is. Who had argued over gathering more troops but in the end had not insisted as much as he could have on the idea, and since Duncan was the only person Cailan actually listened, then they were forced to fight an unfavorable battle.

"Tell me, Lieutenant, does your Commander seek to kill us all?" he asked one of the two people who sat in the war tent along with him. Both of them with the Grey Warden crests on their armor.

"Perhaps he does. If we all die and this army is destroyed then there is nothing to stop the Orlesians from marching in the country to 'aid' Fereldan." Lyna Mahariel replied, looking up from the map of the battlefieldshe was peering at to meet his gaze. Her voice betraying her annoyance at Duncan's plan.

"Even if Celene would turn against us the moment the Archdemon died?" he asked, not that he actually believe it was really an Archdemon even now, but Lyna had revealed that Wardens had a way of knowing that it was truly a Blight.

Although she had not gone into the specifics, as it was high treason among the Wardens to reveal even the little information she had already, he still trusted her enough to not argue over the issue, but not enough to simply believe it was true.

After all, Loghain Mac Tir did not trust anyone fully except himself. Not even Anora or Cauthrien, no matter how much he held them both dear, and he certainly was not going to trust a Grey Warden. Only Maric had been to elicit such trust from Loghain, and Maric was long lost.

"It be favorable to the order if Orlais regained Fereldan." replied Lyna, tapping her chin in deep thought. "Wardens already hold a position in the Orlesian Court, and if we could give Fereldan on a silver platter..."

"Then he Empress would give you more support." Loghain finished for her. It made his blood boil, but it made sense in a certain way. Orlais provided most of the coin for the Grey Wardens, and their reputation in Fereldan was low and their numbers few. It was certainly worth sacrificing whatever little power they had in Fereldan for Celene's favor, and that even IF the Fereldans found out about this little ploy of theirs.

Still for all the sense it made, Loghain still wanted to grab his sword and cut down Duncan right there and now, but he reigned himself in and asked.

"So tell me Mahariel, what reason could I have to not hang your commander and your fellow Wardens?" he demanded, though he knew it was a pointless question with an answer that was expected: A very bitter laugh.

"If one could do it, then I would gladly offer my blade for the deed." replied Lyna with a humorless grin. "But we both know Cailan would lop both of our heads for it. Though he would, of course fail, and we would plunge this country in Civil War."

The elf was a bloodthirsty little thing, always in the heat of battle and always the last to walk out of the battlefield. Loghain knew that Duncan would never stand a chance, and neither would Cailan's troops if they sought to capture her. Her fierceness in battle only surpassed by her pure, almost fanatical, hatred of Orlais.

The reasons for it still unknown to him, but Loghain almost shuddered at the thought of what the Chevaliers had done to her to earn it.

"Then we either fight here, and die for certain, or we assassinate Cailan." the other Warden said. Earning the attention of both Loghain and Lyna on himself. Duran Aeducan ignored their scrutiny and took a good gulp from his wine goblet, as he reached for the bottle on the table he continued. "Or do you have another suggestion."

Loghain trusted the dwarf far less then Lyna. The second son of King Endrin and quite a capable commander, as he had proven over the last three months of fighting in the wilds, Duran's motivations remained largely unknown to all but him.

Still, the dwarf was quite apt in the way of war and politics, and had no apparent loyalty to anyone but himself.

"We are not yet defeated. If we win, heavy losses as we will have, then I can call in the regiments Anora is gathering in Denerim." Loghain argued. "The numbers our scouts..."

"The scouts are idiots and should be hanged their bodies fed to the dogs." Duran interjected. "They THINK they know the Darkspawn numbers, but only a fool believes that when facing Darkspawn."

"Need I remind you that those scouts also included your fellow Wardens." Loghain pointed out. Duran merely snorted as he took a sip from his drink.

"I trust the head count done by former assassins, poachers, thieves and mages as much as I trust House Dace and Gavorn, which isn't saying much." Duran retorted. "Now will you listen to my plan or shall we continue our pointless debate?"

It needs some proofreading, there are a couple of small mistakes. Otherwise interesting - what's the set up for this?

I wrote it just now without bothering to fix my mistakes. Thankfully I found someone who is willing and quite capable of proof reading.

It is part of my plan for my War of Shadows FF: http://www.fanfictio..._War_of_Shadows , though this thread has given me thought on the plot and I have decided to severely change it. I suspect that Loghain fans will love it.

Speaking of banters, I'd never had Loghain and Oghren on my team at the same time before and I only recently heard any banters between them. I was a little surprised that Oghren is so hostile towards Loghain. I didn't figure he'd even care about Loghain enough to be hostile.

Nice teaser - can't wait for more :)

I have walked all over creation - well, Ferelden, to try to trigger Loghain-dog banter but have not been able to. Perhaps because I'm on a PS3? Thanks for posting some of them - if I heard them in game I'd probably cry too.

Yes. And I don't particularly like him, but even so, he's not surly to me. I just don't take Oghren anywhere so I won't have to worry about him and Loghain. Although, Loghain's replies might be interesting.

It's funny actually:

Oghren: So what, now we're supposed to be best friends? Bosom buddies? Sit around the campfire and sing together?

Loghain: Somehow, I have no desire ever to hear you sing, Dwarf.

Oghren: Just don't start thinking that you belong here.

Loghain: Oh, I'm in no danger of that, I promise you.

It's just a short conversation where Oghren tells Loghain not to feel like he belongs. If they have more banter than that, it's not on the wiki.

When I get home I'll have to play until the wee hours of the morning to get to the Landsmeet. Guh.

And, um, is anyone else reading Cartography besides me? Posted Image

I read what there was of it some months ago but I'm not a big FF reader - I tend to forget about stuff other than my usual forums and lose track of it.

Considering writing some though. Been a long time since I wrote anything and need the practise.

What actually made it funnier was that I had activated the Landsmeet early in my mod and was doing some testing. Loghain was on my team already and then Oghren joined, so when Oghren was all "Don't start thinking you belong here," since I'd never heard it before, I was thinking, "Uh, Loghain's been on the team longer than you have..."

I've been tempted to write out some stories too, but I'm so out of practice I feel I'll only embarass myself. Posted Image

Same here. My attempt was just going to be a one-shot but it's... not going well. To say the least. Too many adverbs!

KoP, you need to stay out of that Alistair thread. Your mind is in the gutter! We're never like that here. Posted Image
