@Skadi.

Yet another Federal election.
Where all the parties act like utter morons and throw **** at each other.
Where we will see the only right wing party get another minority government.

Waste of time and money.

Interestingly, Europe seems for the first time in a long time, as a whole, to be leaning toward more right-wing govornments, due to the major govornmental financial crisies all over. And Europe is pretty much the left-wing promised land. Perhaps canada might start swinging more center-right as financial crisis gets worse.

Actually the issue is more that:
There is only ONE right wing party in Canada, the Conservative Party.
There are THREE parties on the left side: Liberals, New Democratic Party, the Green Party.
Then there is the Bloc du Quebecois party which takes up all the votes of the die hard Quebec voters.

People seem more to be voting for Stephen Harper who is leading the conservatives becase he is a very strong leader who has not screwed up badly.

Compared to the laughing stock that is the Green Party who has no seats, the NDP who only get voted for by union workers, and the Liberals who look like utter morons... yeah another minority is coming.

There are no other leaders in Canadian politics who can PR like Harper.

From what I've studied of Canadian politics, its parties are essentially brokerage parties, with extremely loose ideological affiliation. "right-left" is an outdated and limited way of understanding modern politics.

In Canada it is very true.

If you belong to the union you vote NDP.
If you are a diehard Quebecer you vote Bloc.
If you live in a Eastern City you vote Liberal.
If you live in the West you vote for the Conservatives.

However Harper is actually doing a very good job and can easily out manouver the other parties,

And if you live in BC, your're usually too stoned to vote. Or care.:pinched:

Sounds like, though the more left of center parties dominate considerably. Do people actually choose candidates on issues or policy, or do they vote by tradition based on region/class?

Depends.

You vote for your member of parliament.
Which ever party gets the most seats is the one in power.

Most people vote for the party it seems rather then the person.
I like the American system more.

Ah, I see. More similar to the British system, then.

Yes, it is also similar to how people in the UK vote. They vote for parties rather than individuals. My husband still does this, he always votes labor, because he was raised working class. He'd never vote for a Tory because he does not believe any could be trusted. Even if the candidate was better. Though I don't know if that perception is so entrenched in Canada as it is the UK, where class divides and conflicts are more pronounced, at least socially.

It is something I do prefer in the US system, in voting for the candidate, mainly because I prefer more fluid politics. You had your "political bisexuals", such as McCain and Lieberman, who shared similar views and voted accordingly with opposing party bills. Party means little to me, because the ideologies are loose enough that acceptable candidates can be produced from either. Generally, it leads to more morderates, which can help alot resolving conflicts between the parties and make congress run a little smoother.

You know... I miss Loghain in DA2.

He was a cool antagonist who had depth and one that I could understand.
The Redeemer ending made me seem him so differently that I was surprised,

DA2 lacks any NPC of Loghain's caliber. Outside Varric... though.

Also I miss Bhelen.
Why can no politician in DA2 actually use ... fore sight... or do ANYTHING.
My god the Divine, Dumar, or Elthina should have done so much yet they did squat.

That said I do find the game fun and want to keep playing.

Tell me about it.

There is no epic NPC I remember in DA2. Origins had Bhelen and Anora that makes me feel warm inside.
Of course Loghain, who is awesome as always and what Meredith should have been, but was not even 1/10th of that.

Heck, Origins showed Kardol for 2 seconds and he left a larger impact on me than most NPCs in DA2.

The sole exception:

What would have been epic is to see the Arishok face Loghain in battle.

Chapter 5 of "Unbound" is up. I would link to ff.net except that it's not playing nicely this afternoon and won't let me post new chapters. So it's the Bioware boards version for now.

Anyway, hope you enjoy. In this chapter, Loghain has lots of fun killing lots of Darkspawn in the Deep Roads. The Mage likes to watch. Some cute Dog moments as well.

Edit: Found a way to bypass ff.net's jerkiness. Link to easier-to-read Chapter 5 is here. :wizard:

Unfortunately, I don't think the Arishok is going to come back. He either dies, or does something pretty incompetent if you give him what he wants. I think he would be fired and replaced by someone else.

Sten had actual experience with the world the Qunari are trying to conquer. I think he should rise through the ranks.

Isabela escapes after three days. With the Tome of Koslun.

She might be a moron, but she is very skilled.

I love Isabela xD She's such a slippery pirate, she can get in and out of practically anything

.....That either came out really right, or so very very wrong.

Nice. I'm still enjoying smiting Caesar's Legion in F:NV (currently on character #3 now) so I won't be starting DA2 a while yet. Sorry to hear there are no awesome characters. I guess they wanted Hawke to have all the awesomeness.

Back to politics, it all comes down to Sirt it appears.

Can the rebels actually take it? Maybe...maybe not. Though if it falls then Gaddafi might just sign his execution. "Shrug"

Also something epic I found on yahoo news commentary.

January 2013

One sunny day in January, 2013 an old man approaches the White House from across Pennsylvania Avenue , where he'd been sitting on a park bench. He speaks to the U.S. Marine standing guard and says, "I would like to go in and meet with President Obama."
The Marine looks at the man and says, "Sir, Mr. Obama is no longer president and no longer resides here."
The old man says, "Okay", and walks away.
The following day, the same man approaches the White House and says to the same Marine, "I would like to go in and meet with President Obama."
The Marine again tells the man, "Sir, as I said yesterday, Mr. Obama is no longer president and no longer resides here."
The man thanks him and, again, just walks away.
The third day, the same man approaches the White House and speaks to the very same U.S. Marine, saying "I would like to go in and meet with President Obama."
The Marine (understandably agitated at this point), looks at the man and says, "Sir, this is the third day in a row you have been here asking to speak to Mr. Obama. I've told you already that Mr. Obama is no longer the president and no longer resides here! Don't you understand?"
The old man looks at the Marine and says, "Oh, I understand. I just love hearing you say it."
The Marine paused for a couple of seconds, then snaps to attention, salutes, and says, "See you tomorrow, Sir!"

Ah-ha-ha-ha

I have loved political humor since I first watched Royal Canadian Air Farce, and Rick Mercer on CBC.

Cant believe we are having a third election in FIVE years though.
