I know what you mean, I'm always shocked when I see how many days have passed since a particular post... time flies in here.

Anders has everything to be polarizing in the extreme.
THERE CAN BE NO COMPROMISE!

Games I've recently played had some interesting antagonists. But none so far was able to overthrow Loghain as my favorite antagonist. He is my standard for what a good sympathetic antagonist should be. Jacques de Aldersberg from TW1 comes close though.
And Meredith practically has no character. I absolutely love it that Gaider was so desperate to make her likeable, that he turned her into an idiot. Like when she deliberatly gives Orsino and mages time to prepare their defenses, giving him all the funnels and defensive advantages for free (but of course like an idiot he doesn't take advantage of them). Really?
If the only way you can make a character be honorable and morally ambiguous is to turn them into an idiot, you have a problem. And it becomes strictly irrelevent with the revelation of the genius idea of the idol.

JdA in TW1 is really how Meredith should have been. The story is actually very similar to DA2's (swap Scoia'tel for mages), as is the chapter set up, and I can't help but think it influenced this game. My copy of TW2 has just arrived so I'll be delving into that very soon, I think.
I did rather like the characters in Fallout: New Vegas - Cesar was crazy but interesting whilst Mr House is very much the benevolent dictator (and reminded me a bit of you, truth be told) .

Yea I had that same observation, except it was done much better. And not only the final act. The conflict was being built up well since Act 2 and we had several choices throughout. And we don't pick a side at the very end, we rather pick a side in Act 3 and then definitively in Act 4 (one option gets locked depending on what you chose in Act 3). Plus, there is always the possibility of being neutral.
I thought the conflict was well done, compared to the debacle that was DA2's story.

I think you'll enjoy it. TW2 is my favorite RPG (and game in general) personally, and I thought it was better than Origins (though it will always have a special place in my heart).

lol yea you already told me. And I was flattered

And no, Irenicus isn't an average villain - he's quite nuanced. He's definitely a bad guy that you will enjoy killing, but he does have a slightly sympathetic angle which you find out towards the end. Great voice acting too.

It makes me sad that Anders is like the new Loghain. I like him, but the quality of writing when it comes to him and the story he is involved in, is nothing like Loghain.
But, I'm tired of lambasting DA2, and since I'd like to see new stories in the DA setting I hope the writers aren't too discouraged by the reception. It murders creativity to have people be so critical. We know they can do better.
I certainly hope so- my experience with TW2 was so disappointing that my interest in that fandom has declined a lot. I have to say I didn't love Sapkowski's book either (I got both that are in English but only read The Last Wish). If anyone wants my copies they're welcome.

KoP, you need to remedy that, seriously. Alright, it looks a little dated now, but it's one of my all time favourite RPGs (maybe *the* favourite). I think I've played through it 30+ times, with and without mods.
I know. I'll try once I find time. And once I play TW2 for the second time.

I actually want them to be aware that they dropped the ball. Quite badly.
But I don't have the same problem as you. I found the alternative in the fantasy genre.

I whole-heartedly agree.
But I don't think they are discouraged. They've dealt with criticism before, this time it was just louder (and with a lot of crap in between).

Ironically, that pic of Shep was from the romance starter conversation with Garrus...
And thanks! The paramour achievement icon was a way to say FU to the devs who said she's not a real LI. xD

Oh she's not considered a real LI? That sucks. I like Kelly and if I wanted to romance anyone in ME2, it would have probably been her or Miranda.

And no, Kelly is considered something of a quasi-LI, someone who you can fool around with but the game doesn't take her into equation for the romance achievement, nor will she interfere in any existing romances (and Casey Hudson said she wasn't a LI... bastard). However, the relevant info about whether your courted her or not is saved at the end of ME2, so I am DESPERATELY hoping that she is in ME3.
Otherwise I'm gonna be very sad.

And considering how you pretty much have to take all the steps that you would with a standard LI, first flirting a lot, then inviting her to have dinner, and finally after the suicide mission is over, getting a private moment in Shepard's cabin, the notion that she's not a LI is quite... silly.
Not to mention that in order to get her smexy moment at the end of the game, you must not be engaged with any other LIs...

I'd only trust LIs to feed my pets personally.
