I actually do feel terrible, for this is the longest delay I've had. I'm
seriously considering messaging all my faithful reviewers and
apologizing/explaining.

The truth of the matter is this: I sent
the chapter off to my beta.... she got it back to me RIGHT when we
experienced a death in the family... the death was not exactly
unexpected, but it still completely knocked the wind out of me, no
less... but I've finally dragged myself out of the mucky sadness and
have had the revised chapter sitting in her inbox for about 2 weeks now.
I've given her another poke via email about it. If I don't hear
anything by Thursday, I am going to go ahead and publish it Friday night
with an extended apology to my readers.

The chapter after that is currently in writing. Will be working more on it after work today. ../../../images/forum/emoticons/smile.png

Oh, well, now I feel terrible for yelling at you. I'm so sorry. I hope it helps for you to know how much I liked the story and have been anxiously (but mostly patiently) awaiting its continuance. . .?

No, no, don't feel bad at all! I didn't take it as yelling... you came off more like an excited child who cannot wait for Christmas morning. Posted Image Nothing wrong with that, and some of my delays in the past have been for less sorrowful reasons (i.e. laziness, temporarily distracted by other shiny things, etc.), so a swift kick to the keister is usually helpful.

I appreciate your sympathies. Like I said, it was not unexpected and she lived a long and beautiful life. Death is inevitable and no matter how much you think you've mentally prepared yourself for it, when it finally happens, there's still a period of time where you just... don't feel at all creative. Posted Image

But like I said, I am back and feeling my wild writing oats again, so I've been seeding them almost every night the past week or so and look forward to continuing. The GOOD news is that several of the next chapters were ones that demanded to be 75% written a while ago, so they should come along fairly quickly in succession because they aren't from total scratch. Yay!<3

I hear you on the skipped-ahead chapters. Some of my own writing delays have been due to laziness, work, shiny things etc., but at least as much has been due to bits of future chapters suddenly appearing in my head and going "Hey! I'm pretty good! You'd better write me down now so you don't forget me later!" Theoretically, this should make those future chapters go faster. . .yeah.

Well, ordered DA2 on Amazon today, should be here next week sometime. (and only costs me £17 with shipping, even better). So soon, I will finally get to see what all the fuss, drama, and fan rage is all about. :)

Like I said, mindset is crucial. Don't play it with the same mindset as mine, and you'll probably enjoy it.

My friend told me to "pretend it's some other series that just sort of reminds you of Dragon Age sometimes." Going into it like that helped a lot, I think, as I did enjoy it (just for very different reasons than Origins).

Yeah, that's something I've already prepared myself for. I plan to play it with the expectation of some lulz and a few interesting additions to the lore Why, oh why, the Enigma of Kirkwall was further explored, integrated, and properly explained in context as a major background part was one of the biggest examples of wasted opportunity. The standard "veil is thin" explaination is boring and lame, unless it is due to something highly irregular, bizarre, and intriguing.

But I am actually looking forward to playing. I might even discover a few things I really like. But I am not going into with the same expectations I did with DAO or Awakening, and will probably enjoy it more than most people did because of this, because my expectations are more level and realistic now.

I'm replaying Origins for the lulz - I wanted a Dalish warden to import into DA2 (my original Dalish got deleted because, uh, she killed Loggy, so I hated the cow. I needed that run for the Warden Commander achievement. Yeah yeah, I know, I know...)

It was pretty weird to see Merril and her clan all looking and sounding different. It was also a bit sad, knowing what happened to most of them.

I like the atmosphere of the game but after DA2 the combat seems very dull. I guess Bioware got some things right with the sequel.

Also wanted to play through Awakening again for Anders and Justice, mostly. At this point not sure whether to let Loggy kill archy or do the dark ritual. Still early though - next stop, The Fade (groan). Yeah, Origins has a lot going for it but it's definitely not perfect.

Don't you play a modded game? Skip the Fade mod= a thing of beauty.

Are you playing a rogue? I thought dagger rogue with Momentum was [goldilocks] just right [/goldilocks].

Chapter 10 of "The Hand We're Dealt" is finally up, for those interested.

Also, Skadi, seriously play as Sarcastic Hawke (purple, middle-row answers). Sarcastic Hawke is awesome and doesn't take a thing seriously... which, really, is the best mindset for you as a player to go through the game as well. Take. None. Of. This. S**t. Seriously.

I have found it quite fun doing it that way. Many, many playthroughs because, like Cal said, it's physically fun to play. Mentally, not on DAO's level. But, I still enjoy it. Sarcastic Hawke is, like, 90% of that joy. Because Sarcastic Hawke is EXACTLY who I'd like to be in Real Life, but I value my paycheck more than the cheeky fun I'd have if I said what was truly on my mind with zero filter (which is precisely what Sarcastic Hawke does, aside from being rather loopy to begin with). Posted Image

Well yeah, naturally, of the three personality options, sarcastic hawke would be what I'd naturally gravitate to on the first paythough (and purple is an awesome color). Plus I've heard Hawke says some pretty damned crude, tasteless and socially unacceptrable things. My next instinct would be towards a b*tch hawke. Dunno if I could ever play a diplomatic Hawke, as I find it impossible to play fundementally nice or mentally stable characters.

Just when I thought I couldn't like you any more... a fellow purple fan!

It's absoluely amazing sometimes. I sit in awe, thinking, 'Did he/she really just say that?!' Posted Image

It's downright disgusting at times, but the only Diplomatic Hawke I've been doing so far I do with tongue planted firmly in cheek. Because I honestly cannot envision a Bioware writer creating the gem of "Let's make Kirkwall a better place for everybody!" with an honest and non-parody-minded heart. I just can't. It's waaaaay too "Care Bear Stare" to be real and genuine. Has to be.

And I take it in small doses, in between the several different Sarcastic Hawkes I have running.

Sarcastic Hawke makes the most sense, because the only way this story makes sense to me is if Hawke is an irresponsible playboy.

Actually, "Let's make Kirkwall a better place for everyone" sounds like an awesome response, provided the intent is to do so by encouraging Anders newfound love of pyrotechnichnic expression on a large scale, to include, well...the whole city. :)

That's where you find the awesome button. :)

I wish we could convince Anders to aim a bit higher and kill the idiots at the Cathedral in Orlais.

So what you're saying, playing sarcastic Hawke is like playing a game that's a hybrid of Final Fantasy 7 and Leisure Suit Larry? Wow....this just gets better every minute.

So basically, I can really play the game not giving a crap about anything,  doing all manner of contradictory and nonsensical, and engaging in various for of seriously disturbing and perverse lulz?

Sounds good to me, then. I was afraid of the plot forcing a Hawke that would actually have to give the appearance of giving a sh*t.

Yep. Play as if you never give a sh*t about anything, and the plot will make sense, and the world around you will sate your humor with their ridiculous antics. Imagine the story abd Kirkwall as a reflection of your Sarcastic Hawke's sense of humor. Twisted, weird and perserve :D  And with little intelligence.

The game forces Hawke to not give a sh*t, even if he can say that he does. Play the game with that mindset, and I think you'll enjoy it.

I know. I think that future possibility alone is justification for keeping him alive. You know, after the mages have been freed and in gratitude, Orsino gives me a funky flashback to GoA, I am hoping my Hawke will then encourage him to go for broke and shoot for the moon. And if he managed to survive the event, and Redcliffe is still around and Eamon's stirring the shyte in the Bannorn, tell Anders the entire town secretly works for a Chantry run mage torture dungeon where mages are made tranquil for saving kittens from trees with their magic, and experimented on.

You see, a fully possesed past the point of sanity Justers can be a very useful asset for solving alot of problems, don't you think?

Oh my god, playing sarcastic Hawke sounds like playing....a cat!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's why they made up that ridiculous story explaining The Pounce's abcense. You play as one of his chosen. To allow him to view the world and laugh at pathetic minions who stumble about in their pursuit of the reason for their existance: to amuse you.

Now that's just awesome. 100% purple Hawke it is. =]

Is it that difficult to actually play a character you can actually care about? Seriously? Then that explains why I lot of people seem to favor DA3 featuring either the Warden, or an entirely new character. No one's terribly excited about Hawke, really.

I think this is why I hate limited options that usually come with many canned characters. You're limited how you play such a character, to whatever the writers limited you to, and how well the writers wrote your character perameters.

I am sure many care for their Hawkes.

I on the otherhand easily find him my least favorite protagonist, ever. And I said before that if I learn that Hawke is in DA3, the probability of me buying the game will decrease quite a bit.

Incidenty, that's why I am very pissed off at Cassandra at the end. The idiot.

I should probably say that I was being slightly hyperbolic. Hawke can care for family (debatable, for two major reasons) and companions (also slightly debatable), so it's not him not giving a damn about anything. But Hawke is not allowed to really give a damn about everything else. That imo, is not hyperbolic.

Heh heh. I do like sarcastic Hawke. But only the male version. I tried a female but wanted to punch her in the face before I'd got out of the Korcari Wilds. For some reason, male Hawke sounds quite charming when he's being sarcastic - female Hawke just sounds like a b*tch.
I won't be upset if we're Hawke again but I'd like a new protagonist, really. Good voicing is critical, though - if I'm playing a voiced character for an entire game I better damned well like the voice (see Ladyhawke).

Addai - yes, rogue. But it's early stages and he's just so slow. I miss all the nice moves rogues get in DA2. Also, being a rogue means I have to drag Wynne with me. Fail.
