Why Teyrn Loghain is the deepest character in Dragon Age

He was impressive and fascinating to me at first sight, and especially when compared to Meredith and Orsino. But lately, I've been thinking on how....unimpressive he really is.
I think this is in large part because the entire reason why the Qunari are there is just weak.

Fenris is tricky - on my Fenris run I had to restart Chapter 2 because I (only) flirted with Isabella and then couldn't get Fen into bed. If you plan on doing Fenris, it's best not to pick any of flirt options in chapter 2 prior to doing his quest.
The others are less sensitive. It's actually possible to sleep with Fenris, break up with him, sleep with Isabella (for fun) and then settle down with Anders or Merrill. The trick is not to talk to Izzy at all until you've done Fenris' quest (just take him out of Kirkwall to get his quest to fire. It may require two travels to different locations).

Like I said, I'm just playing through for the lulz, as well as to get aquainted with game mechanics and get a better idea of the game. I will probably do a more "canon" playthrough once I've figured everything out. For now, shallow horny i-don't-give-a-f*ck hawke is fine for this playthrough.
I've met the Arishok. Compared to everyone else, yes, i do like him. he's the only person I've met in Kirkwall who is not actively trying to stir sh*t or make life hell for others. And he's actually talked to me, instead of attacking. I'm impressed. He's still sitting around doing nothing, but since that seems to be the norm for Kirkwall, I'll forgive. the Qunari are still idiots. I still remember Ketojan, and I actually liked him, as briefly as I knew him. Poor guy. Really, it made me a little sad to watch him commit suicide in such a grim manner. Sniff. He'll always be my favorite Saarbas.
Anders still delivered my favorite line in game so far to high royal highness, prince douche Sebastain.
"Is that Andraste's face on your crotch?" Just....classic.

Yeah, I actually like all the party NPCs...except Sebastian and he's an extra. Initially I gave him the benefit of the doubt (mostly because I didn't take him around much) but that stopped when I did my single templar run and gave Anders the shank (I like Anders, so that was tough to do). It was just the crap Seb came out with when you talk to him before the final battle. Ugh, stick it up yer bum, Chantry boy). Plus, he looks way too much like Rage Guy.
OMG...LMAO@ Rage Guy. Yes...he totally does!!!!!!!!!!!! He's a useless rogue, because his cunning is so low (no surprise, because he's thick as two planks), so I only drag him along when I have an extra slot to kill and know I am going to do something to annoy him. And I said this on the DA2 forums. One can rightfully **** about Alistair's tantrum at Landsmeet when the choice to spare Loghain comes up, and your warden refuses, telling Alistair he can do it if he wants to so bad. At least Alistair steps up to the plate and carry's through, Sebastian stands around expecting YOU to do it, and is too lazy or chicken sh*t to shank Anders himself. And then when you don't, he's gonna go raise an army to pretty much kill more people than Anders and his disappearing Chantry trick. Right.
But yeah, like you, I actually kinda like all my companions in their weird and bizarre ways, even though most of them are idiots. Given the idocy in kirkwall so far (I'm now in act 3 and still wondering why I should care about this town) my companion's idocy is actually pretty cute sometimes, and provides me amusement, especially my rivals. I pretty much got everyone except Sebastian and carver at max friend/rival. Anders is now shacked up in Hightown with me, getting ready to temporarily dump me while he gets ready to do something I wish he would have done in Act 1. I actually get a tear in my eye listening to him talk about Ser Pounce-a-Lot, and how he misses having a cat. That crime alone, I believe, was the actual last straw that made the Maker decide to give the final finger to thedas. he didn't really give a sh*t about torching Andraste, or all the tevinters that came camping on his lawn one day. he was willing to let bygones be bygones. Until some lothesome piece of shyte orlesian Warden commander robbed Anders of the Pounce.
I mean, I loaded an Awakening save earlier and kept clicking on Pounce and Anders. How could anyone be so sick as to divide the awesome duo?
"Who's the pretty kitty? Oh, yes, you are!" "Meow.".
The...most....awesome...dialogue....in the history of....everything.

I can see now, too, where you say hawke is lazy and ineffective. She's not even a good killer, because the people that need killing the most she doesn't really seem to care. Hell, the whole city is pretty useless, when you consider what happens to leandra. Act 1 was three years ago, where the whole white lily thing became known, yet one freaking templar is on the case? And then after all this time, the only person Hawke FINALLY mentions the white lillies to was freaking GAMLEN?!?!?!?! What the f*ck is uncle drunk as sh*t all the time gonna do about a serioal killer thats been doing this crap for 3 years?
Like, why wasn't there a town wide bulletein warning wealthy older women about this? My Hawke's letter desk was full of letters and messages, why didn't someone in the guard spread the word? There was enough evidence by act 1 to start an investigation.
Oh, right, back to the Arishok. Yeah, sitting in town for three years supposedly looking for a book does seem pretty weak and lame. I wonder if his other demands of the Qun were to actually observe the city and perhaps seek out converts. Who knows. The Qunari mindset is still pretty hard to grasp.

1. LMAO at Skadi's DA2 reviews.
2. Finally made my husband try ME2. He's now on playthrough #2 and I MAY NEVER GET MY GAME BACK. LOL I keep trying to get him to try DA:O, but kinda fear he'll just end up buying the in-game anti-Loghain stance and kill him. Which would be ironic because he's actually got a LOT in common with Loghain. A LOT.
3. Commissioned YamiSnuffles to illustrate the next chapter of "The Hand We're Dealt". Because it has to be done. And Morwen started that awesome idea with Bitenomnom.

I'm all for more Loghain arts. I'll be commissioning Maeves Child for something raunchy, but I'm saving that for when I finish the behemoth.

I'm not sure how many other Loghain fics have illustrations, but DragonReine produced them pretty regularly for Elysium_fic's recent opus. I certainly didn't start the trend in general --though I'm honored that Bitenomnom offered to continue it with my fic! <3

Heyyy, I have to do all the chapters; it's been too much fun (and I've learned so much in the process each time).
(Related, Morwen: I'm so sorry I've been lazy again with the Chapter 9 re-sketch; got all distracted with that shirtless Loghain and a related crack!Landsmeet doodlethingy that I'm almost done with...I'm totally gonna go work on your drawing for a while right now.)

I haven't been able to get the husband to play ME. He doesn't like the shooter mechanics.
Took mine a little bit to get used to it (he's a COD kinda shooter, whereas I'm more of a Fallout shooter), and now he can't stop. The story sucked him in, and I'm like, "See, see! Epic plots and companion stories are awesome. Step away from the mindless online shooters and come towards the RPG light."
I'm definitely thinking there may be a fight when ME3 drops. That, or I might better reserve TWO copies.
Nice! I hemmed and hawed over it, and then decided I wanted it and Yami is very affordable, so...I'm all for more Loghain arts. I'll be commissioning Maeves Child for something raunchy, but I'm saving that for when I finish the behemoth.

I love the one she did for my Anders/Hawke one-shot (which keeps whispering to turn into a series of one-shots, but only if I have enough time to do it without hurting my main Tabris/Loghain novel). Her style is fun and whimsical, which was perfect for both my Hawke and for my Kallian. I've not seen Loghain in any of her portfolios, so interested to see how she renders him.

Oh, yes, yes it does need to have this. *I* need to have this. LOL I plan to finish my first draft of the chapter (or get real, real close to finished) today. Then, we'll see how long the beta review/any re-writes take. The usual timeframe ought to coincide well with Yami's usual production schedule, so I'd say no sooner than a week away for "publishing", hopefully a max cap of 2 weeks at most.
Just to tease you, Morwen, there is a YouTube clip from a movie I've never seen, but that particular scene from it is the type of scene the pic will feature. Hee hee. Also, sadly, reminded me there is nothing new under the sun, since I thought I was being totally original with that sort of thing... but... well... *shrugs*

I've been distracted away from Chapter 9 as well, mostly filling in that double meme with sleepyowlet. Which by the way, expect your own personal barrage of "what do you think?" sketch links from me as I attempt to fill that bad boy. It's gonna feature no fewer than 4 Loghains and this is my first time attempting to draw him. . .

Just started playing DA2 last night. I backstab a darkspawn and it explodes? Really Bioware? So far the combat is the most irritating part.
The latest patch reduces the amount of explosions, but they do happen at certain moments. From your comment, you're not going to like the combat one bit as it is very over the top. Personally I loved it (way more than Origins), but it's clearly not for everyone.

You. . .You do realize you just made me watch part of Princess Diaries 2, right?
Although I suppose it is partly my fault. . .I could tell just by the title of the clip what the shot was going to be, but I *had* to make sure.
Eh. So what if it's been done. So many things in literature, movies, art, poetry, etc. have been done and redone, but certain things are worth it because they're just so good. <3:happy:
For my money, though, you could have shown me this screenshot instead of the clip and my soul would feel a bit less icky right now. . .

I missed a few things, I know. I never got the quest where i could get Zevran's Cameo (though I should be grateful, given what they did to elf faces), and the evil tomes and a few others, but I mostly just wanted to run through and figure out the game, basically.
What this game could have used, more than anything, was a healthy dose of renegade interrupts. I can't even start counting the number of people I wanted to just suddenly **** slap, pimp cane, pistol whip, or just shoot in the face point blank. I think that would have increased my enjoyment tenfold.
Act 3 made me realize just how epic fail wave combat is. It's not challenging, its tedious and irritating.

Damn that was fast. I'm still in Act I. And I'm actually kind of bothered by the fact that Hawke still doesn't have a purpose other than making sure Gamlen cleans the house and mom gets the mansion back. I have a bunch of random side quests and they're just tedious at this point. Also, I wanted to kill myself on the Wounded Coast. Please tell me I don't have to go back. *whimper*
