King Cousland would be the one being ditched under the circumstances as he's only a consort.MKDAWUSS wrote...
And would King Alistair or King Cousland ditch their respective wives because they couldn't produce an heir to the throne?

This is not really the issue. The heart of the issue is marrying the Empress of Orlais, the superpower than can absorb Ferelden with ease.

Question: Did Anora's infertility have anything to do with Cailan leaving her for the Empress of Orlais?
DG: Yes. They don't know for sure that she's infertile, but she wasn't having a child, and so Cailan was responding to advice that he was getting that was saying that maybe he had to marry someone because the Theirin bloodline wasn't exactly spreading out that much. He was the only son, or the only known son of Maric at the time, and Maric himself was the last of his line, so if Cailan didn't have a child, it opened up the possiblity of civil war in Ferelden once again.

I'm not sure if that's rhetorical or not, but yes and no for Alistair. If he's hardened a HNF can rule with him. If you chose for him to rule alone, he tries to break up because you can't produce an heir. An unhardened Alistair won't accept the HNF as a mistress, but a hardened Alistair will. Point being, if Alistair marries the HNF, he goes into it knowing they likely won't have children.MKDAWUSS wrote...

How could he not see that marrying the empress of the next door country would lead to trouble.KnightofPhoenix wrote...
Cailan marrying is not my objection. I think even Loghain would eventually tell him to. Him marrying Celene makes him a complete and utter moron.
That is the single most common tactic in ancient history to expand power, you marry yourself or relatives off.
Calian is the Bimbo of the century if he missed that.

That is utter nonsense on Cailan's part. First, he has no guarantee of having a child with Celene. If he did have a child, it would be the Emperor (or Empress) of Orlais and absorb Ferelden back into the Orlesian empire. What about that wouldn't lead to another civil war?phaonica wrote...
Ok, I quickly transcribed what DG said in that interview:Question: Did Anora's infertility have anything to do with Cailan leaving her for the Empress of Orlais?
DG: Yes. They don't know for sure that she's infertile, but she wasn't having a child, and so Cailan was responding to advice that he was getting that was saying that maybe he had to marry someone because the Theirin bloodline wasn't exactly spreading out that much. And I suppose the "advice" was Eamon's. Smug bastard.
edit: My stream keeps freezing, so thank you for the transciption, phaonica.

So was Cailian he got to be called an Emperor, and have a fertile wife!Sarah1281 wrote...
Hey, I actually have more faith in Eamon than for him to want Cailan to marry CELENE. I mean, did you hear that line about poncy Orlesian noblemen? This stupidity was all Cailan's. And Celen's. But she, at least, was getting something out of it.

Cailan's stupidity. Celene's genius.

The whole issue is Cailan basically jumping off a cliff because of Eamon's encouragement. I'm not sure how he'd feel about Cailan marrying Celene, but I don't doubt he'd figure out a way for it to benefit him, considering he's married to an Orlesian himself.Sarah1281 wrote...

Hence why Loghain's poisoning of Eamon to get rid of his negative influence prior to Ostagar makes infinately more sense.
Where is Costin, I assume he'll be happy about this.

I still maintain that there is a difference between marrying an Orlesian and giving your independent country back to Orlais.Monica21 wrote...
