Heh. I'm in the same boat and feel kind of cheated I missed all these games- not just Bioware but Morrowind. I've tried to go back to the older games and the gameplay gap is just too large.GodWood wrote...

Not really surprised, but goes to show DA2 was just **** in the people's opinion! It got third place.

Congrats to TW2.
And getting third place hardly indicates that but whatever.<_<

Unless you count FABLE III. Though I would be laughing my eyes out if DA2 had lost to freaking Fable.
I can assure you of one thing: DA2 will not win many awards this year when people start doing Best RPG and Game of the Year awards. Not only because of TW2 but Skyrim.

And I can assure you that I don't give a damn about awards at all.
Oblivion won loads of them and in still is a rotten game in my opinion. Same as in every other genre. When someone like Gwyneth Paltrow beats Cate Blanchett at the Oscars, awards mean nothing. Not a new phenomenon....Bette Davis never won an Oscar for "All about Eve". So yeah, awards are worthless when it comes to the quality of the recipients.
As for Skyrim, after Oblivion, I'm not buying it right away.

I enjoy DA2 more than TW2, that's all that matters to me, awards can go stuff themselves. Besides, I can still enjoy the hell out of them both regardless.
And that was a really fast playthrough of Batman.

In other news, I finished Batman: Arkham City. Great game and good story. Though its story is short and I felt a certain character didn't get enough exposure. But the ending is disturbingly bitter sweet. Actually, it's more bitter and less sweet. Love it! (barring Batman seemingly forgetting about someone).
I haven't played it yet, but somebody spoiled the plot for me, so I know what you're talking about. My only complaint is that they didn't have David Warner voice a certain character, since his voice defined the character for me in the Animated Series. Thats one thing I loved about Arkham Asylum was how they got most of the cast of the Animated Series to do the voices.
Such an awesome show.

EA does. BioWare does. That stuff does matter in terms of the future viability of the franchise.

i predicted this one.
FNV is on consoles, TW2, is not.
Therefore i'm sure it has more followers.
Still, i would much rather see it loose against NV than anybody else from that list, certainly over DA2.
However, this is nothing more than a toothless popularity contest, and the list was complete and utter ****(DS3, Average Critical reception(yes, they're nominating games 70s now...lol), terrible fan reception,4 portable games, one downloadable game that hasn't even sold half a million copies, one exclusive that got barely positive critical reception and bad fan reception. All we are left is with The first 3)

EA and BioWare.
those kinds of things matter in the future, it may or may not hurt the series(it could get a lower budget, for example)

That's the same character who should have had more exposure. Or simply left as a foreshadowing for Batman 3. The way he was handled in the end was very meh (I did like his appearance mid game though).
But despite the flaws, Arkham City is great and it has a lot of lore with it (Arkham stories are great).
And it made certain characters that I never cared about (like Zsasz) sound very interesting and creepy.
And freakin Azrael is there!! (read some comics where he showed up as a kid, awesome).
@ Z
I still have a lot to do after the main story is over. Some sidequests can only be compleded after the main story is finished. Plus I still have hundreds (yea you read it right) collectibles to find. Plus challenges.
It's going to remain in my console for a while. The gameplay is addictive in its brilliant simplicity.

Fine, let me rephrase it, "I don't give a f*ck about awards".
And sorry, but I don't see it affecting the viability of any franchise really. Sales on the other hand, certainly (and no, that's not an invitation to discuss the sales of DA2).
@KoP:
Ah, that's good to hear then! I was imagining a super short game but it sounds like it's got decent replayability.

I can't wait to play it on PC. I'm debating whether I should just use this as an opportunity to get a new video card, since most Nvidia cards are coming with a code for Arkham City. I just love all the easter eggs and little references they put in those games. Such attention to detail.

Oh yes- I just cancelled my preorder for Skyrim from Newegg since I realized its coming out on a Friday and will want to play it that weekend, so Amazon is the way to go with the release date shipping. I'm getting Battlefield 3 this week so hopefully that can tide me over until Skyrim. I will do manly squees of joy when I hear that Skyrim theme on my PC 11/11/11:D

Obviously not in a huge way, but having those kinds of accolades certainly helps, just as awards can help out TV shows or movies. Its another way to market a game or its sequel. Just look at the single player trailer for Battlefield 3- the first thing they flash on the screen is how its already gotten a bunch of awards. Its a means of marketing and thus can influence sales, which like you said, do matter.

A fair point indeed. Though I'm not really sure I'd believe that the awards displayed on the box really make that much of a difference, at least not to the point of making a series viable or not.

It's not that I think Witcher is bad, as such. From what I can tell, its quality is quite good.Oh for the love of god shut up. You make DA fans look terrible with comments like those.
The Witcher deserves praise for being an excellent game in its own right, whether others find the game's premise appealing is a different issue.
I'm just... really really sick of it. I'm sorry.

of course you could have been kidding, but it doesn't seem like it, and it really, really wasn't funny.
