Because Bioware's middle way, Shepard and Hawke, is not working for me at all. I couldn't care less about these characters and the latter pisses me off. I can't rp them, nor do I care for them.

Maybe, if they can write smart protagonists for once or allow me to play as one (a la Mike Thorton), I could change my mind. But I have absolutely no faith in Biwoare pulling it off. At all.

I like blank state. I  like preset. The awkward middle? No.

The middle ground BioWare is trying with the wishy washy dialogue wheel doesn't work for me. Nor is it as effective at being cinematic, like Alpha Protocol does with the timed dialogue and simple tone responses. Its just frustrating in ME and DA2 cause the characters are too fixed via their voices and obfuscated by the dialogue wheel. And in DA2's case, rendered inert by the plot.

And to boot, with a blank slate or silent PC  I think you're more likely to see branching, unique content given the fact that its cheaper to make since you don't need the voice acting by the PC. I know thats what the developers for Kingdoms of Amalur:Reckoning mentioned recently as a reason for going with the silent PC.

Who the f*ck cares about awards.

I enjoy DA2 more than TW2, that's all that matters to me, awards can go stuff themselves. Besides, I can still enjoy the hell out of them both regardless.

EA and Bioware most certainly.

Tell me why do you think they changed the direction of DA2 the way they did? With voiced protagonist, dialogue wheel and so forth? Well it's simple, because ME2 got many many highly marked reviews, a lot more then DA:O, this is  a fact.

The awards at the end of 2010 when they were finishing the game? They only served to further prove how much better ME2 style was over DA:O style, at least in EA's eyes.

So before you handwave awards like they don't matter ****...well they most certainly will in making DA3!

Funnily, this change resulted in the game receving Less acclaim(as a matter of fact, the lowest critical acclaim BW has ever receive beside those.... handheld games that i don't care about), and i know for a FACT that DA2 won't be winning anything from anybody.

Funny how that turned.

DA2 has at most a score of 82 on metacritic while TW2 has a 88 score. Also on the big top 3 sites ( Gamespot, Gametrailers and IGN ) TW2 recieved 90/94/90 scores respectively while DA2 got 80/92/85.

I think that says a lot of how reviewers felt the game was and if that won't influence EAware then I don't know what will.

I don't believe even TW2 will win game of the year awards though, the competition is just too harsh ( Portal 2, Battlefield 3, Modern Warfare 3? ) but RPG of the year...well different story.

Yes indeed, the Compition is crazy so far and there are many more Possible GOTY candidates on the way.

As for RPGOTY.... it depends i suppose.

The Only RPG so far this year that i would say competes with TW2 is DX:HR, and they got pretty even reviews.
We'll have to wait and see what Skyrim has to say.

To clarify (and I said this in a later post), I meant more about ME not caring about them in terms of which game is better or more enjoyable in my eyes. My appreciation (or lack of appreciation) of a game won't be affected by awards in the slightest, that's what I meant.

So yeah, if DA2 doesn't win anything that won't affect my enjoyment of it in the slightest, nor will X game winning everything necessarily make me adore it.

And for what it's worth, if I was asked which game deserved the award more, I'd say TW2 only due it being a much more polished product that accomplished what it set out to do in a better way. I still have more fun with the unpolished game nonetheless.

The thing for me is that this "middle ground" that you guys speak of is no different to me than a silent protagonist. The Warden, Hawke, Shepard, all feel the same to me in terms of how I feel I can roleplay them.

Different strokes of course.

Say what you wish but don't tell me that that isn't insulting. It's like saying something sexist and then saying "This isn't meant to be sexist buuuuut...."

I definitely disagree with the notion that the....rather vocal TW2 fanatics/fans should die or in any way be harmed.

But I will not have fanbrats of any game insult my intelligence. No matter WHICH game. Esp. since I loved the "The Witcher" series for years before many of them even knew it existed because of oooooooh shiny TW2.  That however also is no insult to those who play or prefer it to TW1 or DAII..... Or is it? ;)

I do admit to being angry at Witcher in particular, because of how set the protagonist and possible companion relationships are. I feel it's a dangerous precedent to set, if more people who want to copy its success try copying that.

I hope it becomes a precedent. I prefer preset characters.

No thanks. I'm sick and tired of male, "badass" characters being forced on me. *Hugs FemShep, her Canon Warden and her Canon Hawke* Never mind that Jennifer Hale kicks ass and could teach Geralt's voice actor how to...you know, act. (TW2 is an improvement though)

You know what I am tired of this tolerance bull****.

I think the people who praise the main story of DA2 are complete and utter idiots and I don't give a spit of who they are. End of line.

I think DA2 is a bunch of trash with no interesting companions save Bethany, crappy dialogue that makes me want to spit when I hear it, sex scenes that are pathetic bull**** combat, ****** poor graphics. I don't ****ing care for the argument that DA2 is funny, TW2 has it's funny moments where I laughed to tears, nothing like that EVER happened for me during DA2.

You know how much I hate your mentality Persephone? Let's just shut up about Bioware's crap and accept it because we owe them respect for their other games, well I disagree. People should NEVER forget to remind companies of the faults in their games, ever, because if they just get ass kising then they won't improve anything.

Trust me, if I really wanted to insult you, I would let you know.

But it's your pregorative to think it's insulting. My statement will not change, I see most DA2's story as a joke. If you feel that insults your intelligence, then there is not much I can do for you and you are more than welcome to refer to me as a fanbrat.

To have a better analogy because yours doesn't really make that much sense given the context.
I hate yogurt and say it tastes like ****. That is in no way insulting, in my mind, to people who love yogurt.

Persephone: Well good for you.

Zjarcal: I agree with you on what you said, there have been quite a lot of games in the past that haven't won much in the way of awards but I personally still considered excellent.

That said reviews and awards do matter quite a lot these days...well for most developers anyway, it's the biggest reason Alpha Protocol won't get a sequel despite the fact I considered it an awesome RPG.

I don't agree about many so called gameplay problems or other stuff that people constantly mention, but I do understand that people will not have the same view on the game and while I am sad it won't get a sequel I understand and even respect that.

What Persephone fails to understand since she is a rabid Bioware fangirl is that a lot of people dislike Bioware's approach to ME1,2 and DA2 for a lot of good solid reasons and a lot of people get pissed when they spend money on games that they just don't have fun playing.

Oh, the "rabid Bioware fangirl" excuse again, huh? No matter that I have criticized DAO, DAII and both ME games myself....more than once and in detail too. But hey, if black & white works for you, your choice. What's a good solid reason to one, is meaningless to another, as it happens.

Bioware happens to be the company that has provided the most of my favorite games since 1998. Esp. since 3DO, SIERRA and others such as Dreamcatcher no longer exist.

I love TW2 for many of the same reasons you and KOP do. I love AP as well and mourn the fact that we will never see a sequel there. Much as I mourn the fact that a multi-choice RPG series  like "Arthur's Knights" was cut short after the second game because people wanted more combat, less politics, less lore and history and less talking....*Facepalm* Both you & KOP may like that series btw, check it out, it's dirt cheap now.

A thorough review of the first game with both pros & cons may be read here: www.justadventure.com/reviews/Arthurs_Knights/Arthurs_Knights.shtm

Edit to add: One thing the reviewer got wrong was the music. The game comes with a beautiful, mesmerizing score.

And I've criticized CDPR Red quite very strongly, but hey apparently I'm a fanboy. Whatever.

Oh and with a statement like this one isn't supposed to feel your a fangirl, how about you provide good solid reasons as to why DA2 is so good for you. My memory may be bad but I don't remember you ever providing that to me ( and posts that I didn't see don't count ).

See like you I also have a company that has provided a constant stream of High Quality games, that's Blizzard, the difference is I feel no need whatsoever to defend them from people who call their games ****, because they frankly ARE on so many levels ( story, annoying cartoonish graphics, too many pop culture references, etc. etc. ) and at most I pointed out that despite these flaws they provide extremely challenging and fun gameplay in raids in WoW, or very well done campaigns for SC2, WC3.

Eh? When did I ever call you a fanboy?

So saying that a certain dev company made the bulk of your fave games automatically brands you as a fangirl/fanboy?

Good solid reasons.....again, we like/dislike this game for vastly different reasons. So it's like trying to prove why black is a better color than green. But if you like, we can discuss this again on Skype, whenever you have time. And other more interesting topics too, hehehe. :wizard:

Aw, Blizzard. Yeah, not a fave dev of mine. But even though I do not enjoy their games, I won't call people names for enjoying their games OR bash the games themselves on said dev company's forum again and again. It's useless to me. I just don't buy them and play what I like.

Oof, Costin's a grumpy sausage today! Let's not get the thread locked eh?
DA2 is what it is. There's a lot wrong (storywise, for the most part) with it but I still got a lot of fun out of it. More so than Witcher 2. The latter has a much more intriguing game world, a better and more nuanced story and yes, nicer graphics, but damn, the mechanics pissed me off. Played through twice to see both paths and called it a day. My DA2 runs, on the other hand, go into double figures. However, I'm done with it now - even though the new DLC has been out I don't have much inclination towards playing it again.

Lately I've really been enjoying Deus Ex. (The original, which I never got around to playing before now). Once I'd got over the ancient graphics and learned how to play the thing without getting killed every two minutes, I really got into it. Game deserves its reputation, for sure.
It was bundled with the sequel which I gather isn't as good by a long shot. I haven't installed it yet - is it worth a go? (Seeing as I own it anyway). I figured I'd play those and then get Human Revolution. And maybe Alpha Protocol as well, since that's dirt cheap now.

People like what they like, and sometimes it's just for a certain je ne sais quoi that you can't even explain. I'm not sure I could explain why I liked DAO so much, since generally I don't like fantasy.

It's kind of funny that there seem to be reactions against Redemption and MoTA from some DA2 fans, but I kind of like Redemption. I think because my expectations have lowered so much by DA2 that I didn't expect a lot out of it.
