KoP - can't say I like the tubby rapist too much but yes,

Assuming Ves is a woman that would allow herself to be raped.....somehow I find that hard to believe. If she allowed Henselt to force himself on her so she can walk away from something she rightly deserves to be hanged for (  killing the Blue Stripes was perfectly justified after what Roche just did...hell declaring war on Temeria would be perfectly justified after Roche tried to pull a Coup ) then sorry that's not rape.

I think Ves gave in to save her comrades and not just herself, it doesn't sound like her.
Technically it isn't rape, but it is awfully close.

The thing about Henselt is that he felt like a real person, while Cailan was a caricature.
When Henselt says that this would be a good war, he says it in a way that doesn't sound like he has no clue what's going to happen and what war is.

I may get around to getting the DLC for F:NV as well. I bought the first one and wasn't too impressed (it was clever, but I found the atmosphere very gloomy and thus unpleasant to play) but I gather the subsequent DLCs are excellent. Anyone care to comment on this?

I loved all the DLCs.  You must be talking about Dead Money.  I'm replaying that right now.  Horror dungeon is not my thing, but I appreciate it more the 2nd time around after seeing the care that went into all of them, and the variety.  I've also got a feel for Chris Avellone's storytelling style now and can appreciate it more.  Honest Hearts is still my favorite.  I think that's some of the best writing I've encountered in a game.  At this point you might just want to wait for a Collector's Edition to come out?

Like Addai67, I enjoyed all the DLCs that were released, and I consistently use the upgraded Holorifle from Dead Money, but I would say that my favorite is Old World Blues. I liked the story and humor in that one a lot.

If you're curious (since Addai67 mentioned it), the Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate edition will be released on February 7, 2012 and it'll be complete with all of the game add-on content for Fallout: New Vegas – Dead Money, Honest Hearts, Old World Blues, Lonesome Road, Courier's Stash, and Gun Runners' Arsenal.

You just made me load an old vid of my Witcher 2 LP for Henselt's intro when Act 2 starts...ah his speech about Aedirn being a wounded bear surrounded by hounds is epic.

Thanks for the feedback, Addai and LV8. I'll wait a while, I think - although I upgraded my connection to fibreoptic (32mbps down...whee!) so downloading them will be less painful than before the upgrade. But it might be cheaper to wait, as it goes.

@Costin - what KoP said. I guess being female myself, I have more empathy for Ves. Even if she was "merely" pressured into sex rather than actually raped, it's a thin line and not something I can condone. Perhaps Roche did bring the demise of the Blue Stripes on himself but I still let him kill Henselt when I played that path. Epic speeches and all, he had it coming.

"More laws, less justice." I'll just say that and leave it there. My problem with Henselt is that he thought with his dick rather then his brain in that situation...seriously I would have just killed her.

I won't actually get to know Henselt on this run (since I sided with Iorveth), but he sure as hell was annoying to me on that little cutscene. Beyond annoying actually, f***cking infuriating.

So what? He is trying to conquer Aedirn, he doesn't have to be nice to them quite the opposite in fact.

Not everyone has to be nice for them to be a good written character.

So what, what? I can't say he annoyed me in that scene? He did, end of story. I don't care if that bothers you or not.

I never even mentioned him being a well written character or not. I have no opinion on that matter yet.

Not that being well written or believable has anything to do with being likable.

Because he is rude?

Yes.

You are annoyed by some things, I am annoyed by others.

Well I read the leaked Mass Effect 3 story. And thought a lot of it was crap. Sigh.

Let's hope it's innacurate or fake, but who am I kidding.

You're just indoctrinated. Like 99% of the galaxy. You Reaper stooge, you.:wizard:

Yeah, there are some sort of groan inducing moments and it doesn't seem to really do much at all with the imported save except railroad right over those choices, but its possible the actual execution of everything could be good. I'm likely not getting it at launch, but the finished product might end up ok. Or not.

Not sure what is there to read.

Game starts, Reapers invade Earth, Alliance unprepared.

Escape Earth. Turians are trying to strike an Alliance with the Krogan by making the Salarians give them a fertile female on their homeworld. Shepard and Wrex go and secure female. Mordin works for Wrex as an informant and Maelon's cure doesn't work because it weakens immune system too much.

The great facepalm moment was Shepard talking about Cerberus being indoctrinated. FOR ****ING SAKE BIOWARE.

Though apparently there is a prothean you will meet and he tells you the protheans weren't "good" they were an Empire.

EDIT: WAIT WHAT?! Cerberus is trying to gain CONTROL over the Reapers? TIM....you really have style.

Um..I kinda think those "spoilers" are obviously wrong...

There's one there that is blatantly contradictory of actual observed beta gameplay footage.

Of course. It's too difficult to create reasonable rational characters, let alone antagonists, with their own motivations. No, we need a big bad evil to control them.

Seriously, the part with Udina just made me facepalm hard. And the Geth.

In a space opera setting?

Not sure I agree with that KoP.

In a more realistic/gritty settting like say Alpha Protocol or Deus Ex:HR, sure you really don't want the "overarching big evil"

But in a game that has never hidden its roots as being an ode to 70s/80s space opera?

Isn't that the point of Cailan though?

One of the things that is causing massive backlash with those spoilers is ironically one of the things KoP wanted to see

(Basically the fact that none of the companions are permanent and are clearly doing their own stuff abd thus you can't mix and match companions to your taste)

Thanks Costin, though that link was shutting my browser down. Anyway I found the stuff elsewhere. All I can say is that any time I have to take a squad out and Garrus isn't in it, I'm going to rage. I not only do not care about Liara and Ashley/ Kaidan, I have negative caring points about either. All the combat stuff, whatever- it sounds fine but I don't really care.

i don't know, to me the story is OK, nothing special, but at this point i'm not sure how much more complicated it can get.

What i'm not liking is all these rail road shooting sections though, ME3 is seriously looking like watered down Gears of War at this, more than ME2 already was(love the game and all.... but i mean, it's just a fact).

That's because you lack story writing skill. That's not a bad remark mind you, not many people are talented writers but Bioware should know ****ing better then making TIM either indoctrinated or an idiot.

Addai: Blood will flow, I'll say this much. I am extremely pissed at what they are doing with Cerberus.

I don't want spoilers, to be honest...I'd rather enjoy the game with an open mind. I do hope TIM is not an idiot, though.
And yes, Addai - I want Garrus with me all the time. I have one import each with romances with Liara, Kaiden and Ash but I'm not so excited about having them around. I did like Liara a lot more in the DLC (she was the only character I didn't really care about in the first game) and she could be a bit more interesting now. Even so, Garrus ftw.

I finished my third playthrough of TW2. Damn awesome game, still great after all this time. The Loc Muinne Conference was epic (especially the checkmate Radovid could potentially inflict on Henselt). Then there is Letho....sigh awesome.

Can't wait for expansions!

The ending does need an epic cutscene of the Nilfgaardians fording the Yaruga though.
