Loghain is a very perceptive person really.

It only took him one glance to pick out that my Dwarf was from Orzamar, and not a surfacer.

Guess that shoots down some claims that Loghain is a racist(sp?).

But to bring this back to Loghain which origin do you think he treats nicest in Ostagar.
He definently is very respectful to my Dwarves who seem him.

I remember him being very nice to my City Elf. I think he said something about me being worthy and not letting anyone else tell me otherwise.

Yes, my city elf was pleasantly surprised. Something along the lines of: "You're very pretty for a Grey Warden. Don't let anyone tell you that you don't belong. One of the first Grey Wardens Maric let in was a woman and she was one of the best fighters I've ever seen."

*squee!* Posted Image

That's paraphrased, but mostly verbatim, I'm confidant.

Loghain seemed decent when I met him.

I liked his line:

Then simply pray.

I think he's generally nicer to women than men. I have played more males than females (despite being female myself) and he's pretty neutral to human mages and Couslands. I'm not sure what he's like to a female Aeducan. I remember he told my Dalish he'd encountered Dalish before and they were good archers (not surprisingly, since one of them shot him in TST).

What impresses me more, though, is that the general of Fereldan's armies would come out and speak to a mere warden recruit. When he has the banter with Wynne about the losses at Ostagar and says of the men he lost, he knew their names and families, I don't doubt it.

I liked that banter.

That was one of his best with Wynne, telling her to shut it and saying she was an insensitive mage who didnt care about normal people.

I think Loghain is really haunted by what he did, and leaving all those men and women to die.

Absolutely. You can see his despair quite clearly in the cut-scenes. He's drinking in one and depressed in the other. I think that's a lot of why he accepts death so readily if you choose to execute him.

I don't believe that he is a racist but how is his ability to discern the difference between a surfacer and an Orzamite prove that he isn't?

It suggests some awareness of dwarvern culture (which he does have, actually - he recruited and fought alongside the Legion of the Dead in the Stolen Throne).

I'm not sure what he's like to a female Aeducan.

He says it's smart that Duncan recruited from Orzammar.

I think you're right about his being nicer to women in general, no matter what their race, but that being a Mage might make him a bit colder and less open. I've only played female characters so far but he was very respectful, open and friendly to my DC Rogue, nice to my CE Rogue though in a less professional or comradely manner (remarking that she was "pretty for a Grey Warden" seemed a bit OOC for the consummate career soldier, IMO), and merely cordial --though not in a condescending manner-- to my female human Mage. However, I happened to be in the room when my friend "met" Loghain as a male Elf mage and their conversation was not nearly as pleasant. I was quite surprised at the difference --I was looking forward to witnessing their conversation because it was my friend's first time playing DA:O and I wanted him to like Loghain as much as my DC had before the battle and the retreat. But my friend thought Loghain was a jerk from the start and wasn't surprised at all that he abandoned the field.

He probably picked the sillier answers then... but yes, there seems to be some disparity between, say, talking to him with a CEF and a male mage.

Yeah, I think he did pick some facepalm-inducing answers :) That didn't help.

Loghain does get curt with you if you insult Cailan, ironically.

Yeah, which I found surprising. I guess at that point he's still trying to change his mind and is very much aware that he's family.

I always figured that either insulting Cailan or picking the "you don't seem too fond of him" option would be overly presumptious or inappropriately personal, respectively. It wouldn't surprise me if Loghain felt that he had earned the "right" to be disparaging of Cailan's attitude about the battle, but that newly hatched Grey Warden recruits should keep their mouths shut and learn a thing or two before they start criticizing their liege lord.

I also think that my friend with the Elf Mage PC made one or both of those mistakes in his conversation with Loghain. Many stormy Loghain frowns were manifest.

It is like how it is only ok to **** about the place you live if you live there. You have only had a short exchange with the man.

Edit: For an example, Vimes in the discworld books.

And he's convinced that you're Orlesian. True.

I wonder how Loghain thinks that a Dalish got recruited by the Orlesians.

Unless he thinks that you are just a bard wearing face paint.

I don't think he believes that you are ethnically Orlesian or recruited by them. What he does believe is that the Wardens are collaborating with Orlais in a plot to conquer Ferelden. And thus you as a Warden are recieving orders from the First Warden and by implication Orlais.

Hmm I dont follow plots well, especially the Orlesian variety.
Every time I watch a movie I miss lots of obvious things easily. Posted Image

I like how his prank is an Orlesian mask though, since that would really ****** him off I think.

This makes sense to me. I also wonder why he was sent to Orlais of all places by the FW. That just reeks of suspiscious to me. I just remember back to The Calling when the First Enchanter was hoping to capture Loghain and take him back as a prize to Orlais.

This bit still really bothers me.

The Dalish live across many countries, from Fereldan to across the sea in Antiva. Why shouldn't there be Orlesian Dalish, any more than there are Fereldan Dalish?

Well, the Orlesian warden in Awakening can be Dalish so...yes it's possible. I'd imagine they would have a different accent though.

I had almost forgotten about that and didn't even make the connection to a post-Origins Loghain until you pointed it out.

Oh, dear. That brings up unpleasant thoughts... Posted Image

Good thing I never bought Awakenings, then. My post-Origins Loghain is content to help my PC rebuild the Grey Wardens in Ferelden. Posted Image

Well, unfortunately I guess it's canon that a surviving Loghain would go to Orlais. I just hope he returns to Fereldan before he dies. I'm sure he'd be allowed to visit his daughter in any case.

I still think the best ending for him is to slay the archdemon. At least that way he can go out in a blaze of glory instead of fading away.
