Spot on, funny and utterly BRILLIANT!
DEEP ROADS: We bring the sexytimes like nothing else in the DAO canon!
Brilliant! I love "breadbox editions" of books and movies. Someone did the LotR trilogy once and I about wet my pants laughing so hard.
My favorite part (of many)...
ORLESIANS: *are Evil and Depraved even in their own POV-chapters*
LOGHAIN: See, this is what I keep saying!
Awesomesauce.
Oh, and

Oh, andangsty, dark, brooding emo-puppy Loghain.
This is my fave part:
MARIC: I NEED A HUG!
ROWAN: I will hug you. I will also assume the role of your loving, forgiving and much-stronger queen. Such is my duty.
MARIC: Sexy.
ROWAN: Not particularly. Sexy just broke up with me.
MARIC: I killed sexy. I NEED A HUG!
ROWAN: This will get old very quickly.

That other fanfic was a bit creepy, yes. I'm assuming the warden was supposedly another daughter of Loghain's. Interesting.

One of the main problems I've had with 'hardening' Alistair, is that the dialog choices it affects seem to be less about being a 'mature' king, and more about being more self-indulgent. (He'll demand the crown in order to have the power to execute Loghain, he'll agree to the threesome with Isabella, he'll agree that as king he should not worry so much about his duties as king and do what he wants (ie take a mistress, not worry about an heir)). I realize that he's been put down and put aside his whole life, but he can become a better person by rising to his duty as a king or as a warden in a mature way. It's okay for him to go from "I do not matter" to "I do value myself" but not "Sometimes what I want is more important than what the kingdom needs".

To be fair, he makes the effort of studying governance and becomes more involved and willing, which I think is essential for being a good king (not the only important thing of course). He does become more self-centered than he already was (except he has "more spine" to act on that now), but that *can* make him more efficient as king (could also make him worse, seeing how he is not the most rational person around). Even though yes, his threesome thing is meeh, I share Morrigan's opinion on the whole concept.
And Alistair demands the crown to kill Loghain even as unhardened. Stupid thing to do either way.

Duncan flashbacks would have been much better really.

Armed Guards- meh
Templars- Please
A whole army of Howe's men- Not even a sweat.
Only as a DN do you really suprise him.
A DWARF!
THE PRINCE!
AN EXILE!
OMG YOU KILLED TRIAN!
Thats just one of the reasons I role a DN. Other than that though he is just really cool and I was a lot more hurt seeing him die than Calian.

Of course, you're also presupposing that your idea of what the kingdom needs is the only one and that the only reason he wants to kill Loghain is personal.

I agree. Hardened Alistair confuses taking a stand with being selfish. I can understand him, really. But all the things you mentioned aren't improvements compared to unhardened Alistair, on the contrary. I

I wasn't overwhelmed. But I did feel sad. Cailam may have been a fool.... but a well meaning, kind fool. He didn't deserve to die like that.

The only reason I even took him down for the wolves to have was because of Loghain, if not I would have left him there without a tinge of regret, approval of the others be damned.

Would you mind if I hurt you?
Understand that I need to
Wish that I had other choices
than to harm the one I love
What have you done now!
I know I'd better stop trying
You know that there's no denying
I won't show mercy on you now
I know, should stop believing
I know, there's no retrieving
It's over now, what have you done?
What have you done now!
I , I've been waiting for someone like you
But now you are slipping away ...oh
Why, why does fate make us suffer?
There's a curse between us, between me and you
Would you mind if I killed you?
Would you mind if I tried to?
Cause you have turned into my worst enemy
You carry hate that I feel
It's over now
What have you done!
I will not fall, won't let it go
We will be free when it ends
I, I've been waiting for someone like you
But now you are slipping away ...oh What have you done now!
Why, why does fate make us suffer
There's a curse between us, between me and you
