Greatly depends on how you play.

I liked Evis with Viper sniper rifles on my Vanguards.

Have a Claymore in the works.

Don't like the Scimitar but many people do.

So it comes down to personal preference and how you play, so I really don't think there is a "right" answer.

dumb answer. IT ALL COMES DOWN TO PERSONAL PREFERENCE AND PLAYSTYLE

It all really come down to what you're looking for. Try testing them all out and/or watch some youtube vids and see which you prefer.

This.
I am surprised people still ask what is the best shotgun/AR/etc.  since all have their weakness and it is only up to the player what (s)he likes best. Personally, I like Claymore the best by far.

Out of those 4, I prefer the Claymore. But my favorite shotgun is the Geth Plasma Shotgun. Such an awesome weapon for a Vanguard.

Scimitar for me. Loads sunday and fires all week long.

I usually have Area Charge, so charging headlong into several foes means I gotta spread the shotgun love around fast.  The slow RoF that all the other shotties have doesn't cut it.

With the vanilla game and basic DLC, I'm afraid I'll have to go with the underestimated Katana, if only for that beautiful sound it makes. I am growing quite fond of the Geth Plasma Shotgun, though, I suspect that it is a keeper.

I've always enjoyed the Eviscerator. Slightly weaker than the Claymore but has a 3 round clip instead of one-and-done. Just has a cool feel to it. I've never used the Claymore, and the Scimitar felt too weak to me. I prefer to spend no more than a shot and melee on enemies if possible and the Scim doesn't allow that.

I haven't tried the GPS and don't really have any interest in doing so to be honest.

Claymore is awesome. Really it is. As a vanguard I'd use that every time.

For other classes where you don't want to get that close, I'd rather use the GPS. Also I'd rather use that than the Eviscerator. It does great damage and it certainly has superior range. Its damage also happens to be superior to all other shotguns if you can hit more than one target.

Loving the Eviscerator. Great clip to damage ratio.

Classic thread.

I like the Eviscerator as well, especially before you get to DCC. After that you have to decide if you want a reload-canceled Claymore or an extra gun with the Evi. Both ways work out decently.

Used the Evi on my first ME2 Vanguard insanity run and liked it at the time, but then used the Scimitar and Claymore on subsequent Vanguard play-throughs and loved them much more.

IMO either of those is the best for an ME2 Vanguard depending, the Scimitar or the Claymore.

The Scimitar is great for applying the Vanguard's ammo effects, whether Inferno panic or Cryo freeze. You can charge into a group and quickly CC multiple enemies by inflicting them with your ammo effects via the rapid-fire Scimitar's 8-round clip. Now finishing them off is easy, and oh look Charge is ready to go again. This is the easier of the two shotguns to master with the Vanguard, and bonus is being able to mix it up with the Viper or Mattock too.

The Claymore is the beast, so powerfully satisfying for a more assassination Vanguard. Pick an isolated target and destroy him in a signal shot with this weapon's power bolstered with Inferno ammo, then take evasive action while reloading and cooling down Charge. This is a bit harder of the two shotguns to master with the Vanguard. Tactical target selection is much more important with this one-shot per clip weapon, as is the need to make every single shot count, and a player must develop comfort performing reload-cancelling (though after about one mission of practice, this becomes second-nature quickly) to get a decent rate of fire out of this shotgun.

If your an aim king and can master the reload trick, then the Claymore- easily. However, you need to have some serious skillz on the buttons for this on insanity, one miss or slow reload and your in trouble. If you're not a twitch aim king shooter, and your more novice then the schimitar- allows you to miss shots, is more forgiving and doesn't require you to melee after every shot- which is what you will be doing with the other shotty's. I like Viper or Mattock vangaurd, with stasis/slam or reave as my bonus and roll around with an eviscerator- cause of boost to dammage to armor and the 3 shots capicity is more than enough.

Again it depends on how good you are at charging, shooting in the head, and then melee. If you can get headshots for days and are an aim king. Then the claymore.

The Evi is easier for that reason. It can basically kill many of the low tier mooks in one shot after charge (charge protected so they don't fly and aim is easier), if you get a headshot. Or maybe headshot and melee. The biggest advantage it has over the Claymore is it lets you take more weapon training though. Viper Vanguard is weird and fun way to play one.

Against bosses, rc'd Claymore is better. And really Vanguard doesn't necessarily need more weapon training.

At least to my recollection.

Am I the only person in the world who believe that reload-cancelling is cheating? I had two run with my vanguard; on veteran I went Evi, on insanity Claymore (without reload trick). Claymore is funnier for me.

No, there are some people that post in the ME3 MP forum that say it is cheating. However, you guys are in the minority. :)

I still somewhat consider it an exploit, although the developers for ME2 said that they put it in there on purpose. I figured what really happened was they put in the canceled time mainly to make reloads less frustrating on power users, and it happens that the elbow of doom works as well. Who knows.

In ME3 we are blessed on PC that we have the ability to exploit the medigel key (which is an exploit because the devs said they didn't know we would be able to RC that way).
