Is DAO a bit too mage-centric?

I don't think the other classes are useless. I mean in BG2 spellcasters were the most powerful but other classes were still useful. I know without my tanks to knock enemies back and such my mages would get swarmed and hacked to bits eventually. Sometimes you just don't get that chance to plan ahead to make use of some of the best crowd control abilities.
You could probably cheese your way through the game by using a 3 mage party but saying that you could also cheese your way through with 3 archers and a warrior. Just aggro all the mobs with your warrior then run about in circles while the archers kill off all the mobs. The thing is you don't have to play like that to be able to win, you don't NEED to exploit how effective mages can be to pull off most victorys.

DAO preserves the power of magic while eliminating the only check on it.

I When I start the fight I can put my Rogue behind an enemy, click to attack and switch to my mage confident that which ever enemy my rogue is attacking will be dead in about 5 seconds. With a Warrior there is even less micro since I just click and walk away.
Even with Tactics I have to kinda babysit my mages in battle since everything they do is a separate skill. I also have to be careful with aggro, friendly fire and resists. Those are things almost no fighter or rogue needs to think about.

One of my favorite strategies is to send in Shale, let him group up all the bad guys. Then cast shield on him so he's immune to damage, and then nuke him with fireballs. Fireball explosions in this game are just soooo satisfying!

Shhh, too many of these "mages are overpowered" threads. The devs might nerf them next patch.

I really doubt that, why should they?
Everyone is able to build a party with 2 mages, 3 would be overkill because you would either have no tank or no rogue which is not worth it. I think the game is actually perfectly balanced wether you have 1 mage in your party or 2.It is not gamebreaking.
Of course if you are playing neither on Hard nor Nightmare with a 2+ mages party you are just chicken

I would like to see a party of 4 mages take on a High Dragon.
I'll do it with 3 mages, all with a hand behind their back, without mana/health pots, on nightmare, while posting, without any waffles for breakfast.
To be fair, mages ARE powerful but still need to be managed properly to maximize their talents, especially due to friendly fire.
1 tank + 1 rogue + 2 mages rocks

Does anyone find enough Lyrium Dust to make enough potions to run with 3 mages? There is no way I could keep up with their potion chugging habits.
Everything would die so fast you wouldn't need a lot of mana regen.

There's one place that has an inexhaustible supply of Lyrium Dust. It's where you would expect it to be.

The mage class can do everything the other classes can do.... better.
Except stand up to a drake overpowering them and ripping their faces off...
Force field is stronger tanking then any warrior spec.
And know what?
So is arcane warrior spec for mages.
Stealth is the only thing mages can't do.
Even stealing, traps, poisons, grenades are technically open to anyone, including mages.

Personally, I think that mages are fine. The game seemed a fair shade easier when I was using a party with a tank (my PC), Sten/Shale/Zevran (not a fan of Oghren), Wynne, and Lelianna. The more balanced party definitely progressed through the game more quickly, and it seemed easier (though that was on Nightmare as well).

Somebody please elaborate: how, exactly, does the mage class break the balance in the game?
It has already been said.. The mages even at low levels get some powerful AoE and single target spells that really can make any situation easy.. Furthermore they can become healers, have huge amount of buffs, and even become tanks with arcane warrior.. I honestly don't know what they were thinking with them personally.
