KOTOR 2 > KOTOR 1

This is the only comparison where I strongly disagree

Truly I can't defend KOTOR 2 that much.  The game falls apart completely at the end beyond repair.

However I played both KOTOR 1 and 2 for the first time back to back and the gameplay mechanics and the character interaction stuck out with me more in 2 than 1, as did the storyline.  KOTOR 1 to me was all about the plot twist, which was a damn good one and makes it more memorable than 2 just because of it.

Lost Levels, pretty much taking th engine of SMB 1 and putting a hard mode into it (invisible boxes, death mushrooms, come on, invisible boxes over giant pits!) .  At least Doki Doki Panic was an interesting if not floaty game.  Even if its reskinning (and thus becoming the fake SMB 2)_ was quite dubious.

:sick::crying:. This string of emoticons sums up my feelings towards this. HUH?!!? KOTOR 2 was a bloated unfinished mess which, while still very good, does even come close to reaching KOTOR 1's fantastic-ness. KOTOR wasn't just a great Bioware game, it was better than 2/3s of the Star Wars movies. I can ususally follow the plots of games pretty well but I still can't exactly tell you what was going on in KOTOR 2. Something about the Sith and you were the last Jedi, except you weren't and then there was a whole load of other completely unrelated stuff and then it ended before it was over.

gameplay - agree

graphics - agree

dialogue - agree

inventory - agree

characters - agree/disagree - I liked the wider array of different characters in ME2 but I prefered the romances in ME1 as the ones in ME2 felt a bit rushed ?(Hey Thane, do you ever feel guilt about killing people? No Sheperd. OK, by the way Thane, I want you)

exploring - disagree - I liked travelling the wastelands with the Mako more than the ME2 ones, plus the planet scanning was a negative.

story - agree/disagree - I liked the story better in ME1 but ME2 was less linear in terms of where you have to go to get to the end.

Nvm, I misread what you said. :S

KOTOR was awesome. I had a firm and enthralled grip of the plot every step of the way.

I think I loved KOTOR due to how brilliant the plot twist was. Whatever backround you had created for your character wasn't cast aside, you could've believed that your character was a slaver-turned-soldier and it would still make sense in the context of the plot because the Jedi had programmed you with a fake life.

It was an amazing moment, but it was not only that, when you remember some speach from the begining of the game, everything make sence.
Like when some master jedi are not sure to send you with Bastila yet, one said "what will we do if the sith lord reappear ?" (sorry i didn't play the english version)
It couldn't make sens for us at that time, but after we learn who we really are, all those details make us understand everything that wasn't clear or misunderstood, and then you can only think "damn.... it's well written !"

ME1 still have some great video main plot, but ME2 is nothing near him.

While most of great story game (let say ME1 and kotor to be short) are like watching movies (you can't quit until you know the end), ME2 is like a museum, every paint is different and are not linked, it's just excuse to play and to fill the walls until your visit is over.

Yeah, played like a really bad rom hack at times.

I think Kotor 2 had the potential. You can see it with everything Obsidian laid out. Lucas Arts unfortunately rushed the release. Kotor 2 really starts to lose its stride after the first 60-75% of the game. It may not have reached as high as Kotor, but it made a damn good attempt.

And since we're ranking our overall favorite Bioware games:

1) Kotor.
2) Mass Effect 2
3) Jade Empire
4) Baldur's Gate trilogy
5) Dragon Age Origins
6) Mass Effect
7) Neverwinter Nights (I couldn't make it past the first half of this one).

KOTOR2 was years away from being finished. Bugsidian makes good stories, but sucks at development.

They blamed LucasArts for KOTOR2. They blamed Atari for NwN2 being one of the buggiest games ever. Now, with Alpha Protocol it looks like Sega didn't give them enough time to finish the game, only 5 years. It was never their fault.

I felt the characters were really, really well done in KOTOR2. Kreia is probably one of the best characters I've seen in a game until the game falls apart in the end.

I corrected that quote. I did try it but couldn't get into it. There was only one major turn off for me: barely any voice acting. That and the isometric view annoys me.

Although, I did manage to look past it in Planescape: Torment, due to its unique story and atmosphere and the fact that it was short. But due to the barely any voice acting PS: T ranks below number 10 on my list of top RPGs. If there was full voice acting and no isometric view, PS: T would be in my top 5 RPGs

Heck, I even looked past it in Fallout 1 & 2 (though they weren't anything special). However, they had much more VA than BG and were much shorter

I found myself liking Baldur's Gate a lot more when I didn't play it as a Bioware game but more as, well how I play the Elder Scrolls games. Just wander around and get into trouble.

Kotor 2 improved in the gameplay engine, but the plot twist of Kotor 1 made it spectacular. Kotor 1 has extended the life of Star Wars 10 years + (at least)... that was 2003 and now in 2011 they do a MMO based on that universe... KOTOR 1 was great.

Morrigans "mother" in DA:O. She was weird, but then again I loved morrigan even with all her eccentricities

Ah ok, I haven't played DA:O... wasn't planning to either because they are planning on adding Tali and taking her out of ME...  sounds good to me so I'll stick with ME...

Yeah, only Flemeth liked to manipulate things from afar, whereas Kreia seemed like she preferred a hands-on take to manipulation.

Romances being harder? Hahahahahaha

Umm no.

Take Jack for instance, it doesn't matter if your nice or kind of mean. She just thinks you're playing a game with her. Seriously the only real way to end the romance is to not talk to her, or literally tell her outright "no romance" (which isn't an option until later). This romance is forced, just like Ashly.

The same with Tali. As soon as you finish her loyalty quest, it's "i've never thought of doing that with anyone... well, not quarians at least". You then have to once again tell her flat out "I consider you a friend, but that's it". Romance is forced.

From what I hear, the Jacob one is also forced, and Thane can feel forced.

For Miranda and Garrus if you just say the upper right option, you start the romance. Please that's not harder.

Romances are not in anyway different, they are still forced.

Sorry for my little rant, but forced romances always bug me. Now DA:O and Baldur's Gate (especially Baldur's Gate), those were hard. In ME1&2 all you have to do is look at the person and smile and they want to sleep with you. Tali was the worst because the first real conversation you have with her she basically says she likes you (not saying Tali is a bad romance, not saying she is a bad character, just saying BW did bad -- just a required snippet to keep talimancers off of me).

Always liked the isometric view, and the hand-drawn backgrounds in the Infinity Engine games...beautiful stuff; they certainly age better than some of the older 3d games I have around.

Yes the voice acting is skimpy seeing as there classics. (Though there still hasn’t been a better selected voice actor for a villain since David Warner in BG2.) VA is great but it does make adding new dialogue to a game more complicated seeing as how you would have to have bring in the voice actor every time. (Everyones mute apparently in the DLC.)

Anyway, too bad PS:T isn’t in your top ten without the voice acting, I might have withdrawn the warrant for your arrest.
