I guess I'll be the one to say it:

Kotor>all other Bioware games.

'Nuff said.

QFT

My rankings of BioWare games:

1. KOTOR
2. ME2
3. DAO
4. ME1
5. JE
6. NwN1
(didn't finish BG and don't intend to)

I just got Kotor off of steam a couple weeks ago, seems I really need to play it.
I on the other-hand thought Dragon Age was brilliant (well, as brilliant as RP games can be these days, I don't really consider ME  too RP (more RP-light) because of too few choices in dialogue).

So for me:
1) Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn
--- long blank spots fill in between ---
2) Dragon Age: Origins
3) Mass Effect 2
4) Mass Effect 1
5) Baldur's Gate I
6) Jade Empire
9) Dragon Age Origins: Awakenings
8) Neverwinter Nights ( I could never finish it, as hard as I tried, because I just didn't care)

I'll play KOTOR then see where I place it, but doubt it will top Baldur's Gate II.

Yeah, only Flemeth liked to manipulate things from afar, whereas Kreia seemed like she preferred a hands-on take to manipulation.

I rated Kreia as one of the most bad ass Darths ever - more bad ass than Darth Sion definitely, more bad ass than Darth Nihilus (and he was pretty individual) and more bad ass than Malak (and he was a solid bad ass ), but not more bad ass than Vader, Sidious or Revan.

Romances being harder? Hahahahahaha
Umm no.
Take Jack for instance, it doesn't matter if your nice or kind of mean. She just thinks you're playing a game with her. Seriously the only real way to end the romance is to not talk to her, or literally tell her outright "no romance" (which isn't an option until later). This romance is forced, just like Ashly.

The same with Tali. As soon as you finish her loyalty quest, it's "i've never thought of doing that with anyone... well, not quarians at least". You then have to once again tell her flat out "I consider you a friend, but that's it". Romance is forced.

From what I hear, the Jacob one is also forced, and Thane can feel forced.
For Miranda and Garrus if you just say the upper right option, you start the romance. Please that's not harder.

Romances are not in anyway different, they are still forced.
Sorry for my little rant, but forced romances always bug me. Now DA:O and Baldur's Gate (especially Baldur's Gate), those were hard. In ME1&2 all you have to do is look at the person and smile and they want to sleep with you. Tali was the worst because the first real conversation you have with her she basically says she likes you (not saying Tali is a bad romance, not saying she is a bad character, just saying BW did bad -- just a required snippet to keep talimancers off of me).

I disagree. They did a better job of it. It wasn't a huge improvement, but it was better.

The lines that consent to the romance are more clear-cut, and you get a better sense of when you're activating the romance.

I liked that they give you multiple opportunities to turn down the romance also. For instance if you're going to do Jack's romance, and she asks you if you're eyeing her up, saying "I wanna get to know you first" seems like a douche-y thing to say to me. I much prefer to say "I'm not after that", and I'm glad that doesn't cancel the romance.

As for the options being upper right, well... you do know they have to put the flirt options somewhere. If you pick them and realize they lead to lines you don't want, that's when you reload the conversation and pick neutral options.

Yes. I agree. Unfortunately, a blind chimpanzee randomly bashing the keyboard could successfully execute a romance with someone in Mass Effect 1/2.

Yeah I got a bit ahead of myself, I meant to say for Miranda and Garrus they are more clear cut. For instance the option when talking to Miranda about how Shep has gotten everything, you can say "And you"... I avoided that one like the plague because I was staying loyal to Liara. But I stand by the assessment of Jack/Tali/Jacob at least.

It's the worst with Jacob and Jack, yeah, definitely. Jacob for obvious reasons and Jack because you do have to turn her down twice if you don't want the romance and the inevitable result is she never speaks to you again ever.

Tali was a bit better. I didn't mind turning her down twice, you do it nicely and I get the sense we're still friends.

Agreed with Tali, I breathed a sigh of relief because I had no choice but to turn her down. And yes, Jack no longer speaks to any of my characters, it's just "F OFF!"

I'm a guy and I find that quite realistic... I almost appreciate it in the game that she doesn't because that is how some people respond.

Can't you just turn Jack down nicely and not engage into any romantic talk with her to avoid her telling you to **** off?

Lol, this is exactly what I do when I'm not romancing Jack.

I once got "Sorry Shepard, no offense, but I don't want to play". But can't remember for the life of me how i got that. Because on my next two attempts, no matter what I said, all I got was the f off bit. Anytime the option came up to let her down I picked it, but on the two subsequent playthroughs the romance just kept going and going and going, until the option of "no romance" came up.

I agree with OP with everything except the story and romances. If Bioware could have put the energy they used on the loyalty missions into the main plot ME2's main story would've been EPIC. But then again I think Bioware wanted a trilogy but didn't have enough worthy plot to truly be three separate games and that's the real reason ME2's main story arc is so thin.

And the Ashley/Kaiden romances destroy anything in ME2. They are paced better, you get to know them better, you can change their views on alien related things if you want, and they get the better love scene to boot.

Well seeing as I played Me2 Before ME1 i agree that Me2 was better. I also liked fighting the collectors more than fighting Sarne and Geth soely because the council dragged their feet lieka wede reciever making a sidline catch in the endzone. i had to jump through hoops do back flips, side flips and walk on my face to prove hat saren was evil when in ME2 your main backer actually beleives you and says "you and I know what we'rereally fighting and it's not flashlight headed robots" the Characters that make up Shepards army really helped the scope f the threat that people from mny different walks of life were banding together to fight a common enemy that threatened to wipe everyone out and I liked the preparation for fighting collectors instead of the rolling into the lions den guns blazing trip to Ilos. so I agree with OP that ME2>ME1 but that's jsut me.

my list of best bioware games and the ratings i gave them

1) ME2- 10 out of 10 nearly flawless

2) KOTOR- 10 out of 10 nearly flawless

3)ME1- 9 out of 10 fantastic

4)DA- 9 out of 10 fantastic

5)jade empire 6.5 out of 10 mediocre

6) sonic rpg- 4 out of 10 terrible

ii have yet to play baldurs gate or neverwinter nights but i sure want to.

while jade empire and sonic rpg have considerably low scores i still think bioware is the best gamming company out there and are very underapreciated.

Do people really not like Jade Empire? I guess the kung-fu generation is truly over.

no no no..jade empire had a great setting, story, characters, graphics, but the thing that brought the game down was the lacking of customizing and the horrible combat

you cant make a character they are made for you..and the closest you get to customizing is enhancing yourself with stones and gems(weee) at least in ME2 theres upgrades, difrent armor sets, and all that. plus the combat in jade empire was horrible. camera was shacky and theres like 2 moves spam attack block charage attack. thats it. and the comabt it very unbalnced once i got that toad monster power thing i was invincible..i dunno i think jade empire was a great idea but very flawed

I agree pretty much entirely with the OP but ME2 has it's share of shortcomings as well. My biggest beef with ME2 is the lack of dialogue options with the crew. Let's take Tali with Fem Shep for instance. I do the recruitment mission, go talk to her, and have a short convo. The next time I go talk to her she wants to do the loyalty mission and will keep reminding you about it. Loyalty mission finishes and I go talk to her and she has one thing to say. For the rest of the game she apparently needs to work on the ship. And I guess Garrus doesn't do anything besides run calibrations. Miranda also apparently always has a lot to do and says maybe another time but that other time never comes. Maybe it's because there are fewer main missions in ME1 but I always felt like the crew had something new to say in that game. ME2 falls short here. But in every other aspect, ME2 is the bomb. And ****ing about planet scanning post patch is moot.

If there's a fat lady singing in a kung fu game/film then it really is over :wizard:

I liked it, just because it is second from the bottom on my list doesn't mean I didn't like it, in fact I had a blast when it came out my freshman year of college. I skipped classes (partly because we weren't doing anything new, was just review) and played through it three times in a row. After a couple days I had to keep kicking people out of my room to study because they saw me playing it, and wanted to play it as well.

But even though it is a really fun game (which I think I am going to get it off of steam to play again), it isn't better than Mass Effect series, Dragon Age, and certainly not Baldur's Gate II.

Neverwinter nights was below it on my list, and in my mind, it was far below Jade Empire.
