ok i have seen comments from people saying how "they have yet to find someone who thinks ME is better then ME1" and i am here to say hey i like ME2 way more..after seeing the numerous gripes from ME1 purists im here to explain to them that ME2 is indeed superior to the first in everway
gameplay- first off ME1 had pretty mediocer combat..targeting was annoying, sniping sucked, and the ally ai was usless.ME2 has much much better targeting, and the game dosent lag when like 5 people are on screen, the allies in ME2 while not without their mistakes dont just shoot at walls in front of them, your allies in ME2 are much more helpful. the game is also balanced with action. the battles in ME2 are much longer(escpasially on insanity) if you think they are too short then you must be playing on casual or normal, they also improved enemy ai. instead of just putting sheilds on nonstop the enemies will work together to attack and flank you..camping in a spot for too long eventually will get you killed.
graphics- ME1 still looks good to this day but ME2 looks much better, we never see those dang graphic hiccups and there arent as many glitches(there are plenty but not as much).
dialouge scenes- ok i hear many people complain about the 2nd one being TOO action packed..first off there is plenty of balance between dialouge scens and action. you will usually have about a 10 minutes dialouge scene followed by about a 20 minutes battle, then after that about more 10 minutes of dialuge..there isnt too much dialouge or too much combat or too little. one big plus is emotion..in the fisrt shepard looked very calm the whole time, in this game he smiles, frowns, cringes, he is much more alive, so much that now people are constantly complaining about the toggle helmet feature..which i think no one complained about in the fisrt scince they always wore helmets. the fact that you can interupt during dialouge scenes is also a plus making the game feel more alive
inventory- ok i know everyone complains about no custumizing weapons n crap..but let me put it this way..in ME1..you are in a battle and want to upgrade weapon with cryo for a bit..you must go through a menu, select the weapon to customize, scroll through all of your inventory, then select cryo..you then use cryo and then want incinerary rounds , so you must do the same thing again...in ME2 you want to switch to cryo..you tap a button BAM your using cryo, now you want to use incinerary, ya tap a button BAM incinierary rounds.and yes the sensation of no new armor is gone..but theres plenty of upgrading, and color patterns you can use, plus thants to bioware we have TONS of new dlc armor.
characters- first off to have a romance in ME1 with ashely..you had to simply say..i love you and your a good soilder..BAM she loves you. in ME2 you have to THINK about what you will say unlike in ME1 where ya pretty much would get romance with all paragon choices..characters in ME2 feel more alive this way..and another thing if you actully think none of the characters in ME2 are interesting your drunk or something..ME2 has lots of uniqe characters..the tormented sycopath, the depressed and dying assassin, the tank born warrior, the geneticly enhanced strong willed woman,ect. plus the GOOD characters from ME1(besides wrex) return
exploring- this one really ticks me off. everyone says how ME2 has linear places to explore and the mako is gone so you dont explore planets..fisrt off in ME1 the planets were boring barren wastelands..in ME2 the worlds while shorter and more linear..are much more interesting..you visit volcanic planets, lush jungles, a bar in an asteriod, the collector ship, a better new normandy, a space prison, the asari planet, a krogan planet, a planet taken over by an ai..tons of cool places and if you miss the mako get the free hammerhead dlc..the hammerhead is faster..it glides.its targeting is better, how can you not enjoy it.
story- last but definatly not least is the story..now i can see why some people wouldnt like the story as much..it is more simple.ME1 was a game about exploration, discovery, adventure, while ME2 is the simple story of..we are under attack build a crew and stop the enemy.
BUT its the characters, the character developmet and their roll in the game that make the story better. ME1 had great characters but its not like they were as developed as other characters in games like KOTOR..in ME1 each character had like 1 new dialuge moment after each main story mission..so about 3 or 4. ME2 you constantly are bonding to the crew..you learn more about joker, cerberus, garrus, and espaccialy tali. plus the new characters are very well done, in ME1 the characters pretty much liked you from the start..but in ME2 your crew will constanlty evolve..where as mordin will think your inferior to his inteligence..he will come to respect you. grunt might think your not a bad leader at first, but he will come to see you as a leader, miranda( my fav character) may seem like a **** at first, but overtime she will open up and reveal that she is a very kind, peacful woman who just wants to be loved. on the other hand tali may become mad at you cuz you told the council of her father..or jack might just plain hate you throught the entire game.
in the end as you bond to your crew the game leads to an epic climax that decides the fate of you and your crew..the suicide misiion definatly had me on the edge of my seat. so in the end while ME2 might have a more simple story, its the characters, their history, and the way their loyalty mission turns out that ultimatly decides your bond with the your crew, and how you feel about them and how they feel about you..this is what makes ME2s story much much better.
