The closest we get to an evil or monsterous father type is Loghian who is also considered a hero and we're told has a brilliant mind.
Just sayin'...

Let alone that in almost every origin story the mother is not known, or deceased.
It is indeed suspicious.

Erm... no?
Origin parents:
Human Noble: Mother (who is awesome) and father.
Dwarf Commoner: Mother, no father
Dwarf Noble: Father, no mother
City Elf: Father, mother deceased, mentioned fondly
Dalish Elf: No parents whatsoever
Mage: No parents whatsoever.
We've got two mothers present, three fathers present, and two abstentions.

Human Noble: She dies.
Dwarf Commoner: Really? She ehh... well... hardly a good example.
Dwarf Noble: Not around, see my initial statement.
City Elf: Deceased mother, see my initial statement.
Dalish Elf: Deceased parents, see my initial statement.
Mage: unknown parents, see my initial statement.
So beyond the dwarf commoner. My statement of: "the mother is not known, or deceased." is correct.

Um, except you do know them? You meet your mother in the human noble. You fight alongside her, even. If "deceased" is some sort of exclusionary clause for parents, then we have exactly two: The city elf's father and the dwarf commoner's mother.

I've only done human noble, and the mother there is neat.
