I also fear that they'll take a exceptionally fun magic system and make it more like Mass Effect where instead of  having  all those excellent spell trees to choose from and being able to choose Flame Blast, Flaming Weapons, Fire Ball and Inferno I would only get to choose  Fire Ball level 1, Fire Ball level 2 (with increased damage), Fire Ball level 3 (With increased knockback radius) and Fire Ball level 4 (Choose more damage or bigger knockdown Radius.

To move DA2 from it current system to the system you've outlined would require significant cuts, and frankly, I've got no time to cut spells or reduce devastation! Devastation will be unleashed!

Though as I noted to Game Informer, you will be able to upgrade your abilities, so hopefully the concern was about losing, say, flaming weapons, and not about making bigger fireballs.

Bigger fireballs are awesome.

That it'll be Mass Effect in the DA universe.

Every time I read this, I picture Sten locking a low-friction magazine of custom-tooled, lyrium-enhanced, explosive-tipped bolts into his four-foot long, belt-fed asssault cannon which he has dubbed "The Arishok." It has flames down the side.

Hey, could you just sort of... casually mention this idea to the art department? 'Cause that would rock.

If you don't mind, would you elaborate on what you mean by 'upgrade?' Will be like Runes in Origins where you attach an effect to a spell or will it be like a getting better through spell use (like cast it x number of times and familiarity will make it cost -x mana).

There will be some details coming out of GamesCom this week, so I'll hold off on any elaboration until then.

I do sit right beside Goldman....maybe I'll just casually doodle something that (by virtue of being so poorly drawn as to offend his sensibilities) inspires!

Probably -after- we finish DA2, though. Priorities!

At first I thought he was saying, "we already cut those spells and we aren't going to change it back, so deal with it ****es :P," but after rereading it, it sounds like he's saying they're not cutting old spells (en masse anyway-- maybe they'll cut some of them), but we will be able to upgrade some of them... If my second interpretation is correct, then I see no reason why this would unleash something awful.

Correct. I am saying that to get the fire tree down to just four versions of fireball, I would have to go into the game and start cutting spells that are already made. Seems silly to do that to me, and I'm in Germany, so the long-distance is killer for coordinating that kind of thing.

So I guess you guys will have to live with lots of abilities and spells. Ah well!

Someone activated the Mike-signal it seems.

Not this time. No, this time I was just watching and waiting. From the shadows. And the shadows are German.

....and Germany is now DIAMONDS!
