I'm worried that it will be too short. It probably won't be as long as DAO but I hope it will still be longer than ME2.
First time through it took me about 50 hours for ME2 and about 100 for DAO. I'd like DA2 to take me at leats 80 hours to play through the first time.
I can't recall what magazine it was ( a European one, if I recall) but Mark Darrah commented that DA2 will not be as long as Origins but that it would be longer than Awakening...make of that what you will....
Awakening was like... 15 hours.

Yes, I saw that(thank you anyway), but it really doesn't tell me anything .
Awakening was an expansion and those are usually short, most games are longer than that. He might as well have said DA2 will be shorter than DAO but longer than an individual DLC

This man/woman/Earthling/person speaks truth.

We are not half as bad as fanboys and their love interests (Morrigan and Tali, especially), and that's saying something. They can go on rampages.

You had something special, Bioware. The FIRST actual hardcore RPG in like a decade and a half.
Please don't go and mess that up.

This is another good point. Both ME2 and DA2 seem to be heading away from the cast defined in their predecessors. ME2 had a little fanservice to this end, and I suspect DA2 may do the same. But you guys did SUCH a wonderful job with voice actors and character development that, frankly, I don't WANT to meet anybody else.
I know I'm about to sound pathetic but you did so well that you actually, wittingly or not, made the NPCs feel like friends.
I don't want to go back to Ferelden without my friends. In the words of Douglas Adams "I'd be all cross and wouldn't enjoy it."

This is a valid fear, but I don't think the writers would let an opportunity like that pass by completely. There's never been such a great setup for really deep relationships, so I expect at least some of your companions to take advantage of it.

I know what you mean...
But I also think we should give those new characters we will meet in DA2 a chance. Maybe the writers will do a great job at writing them, and we'll grow as attached to them as we did in DA.
In that sense, I think the 10 years span is a double-edged sword. It can either make for some amazing and deep relationships, or uncomplete and scattered ones.
(Pardon my english)

Yeah the thing that separates us from them is we're about half as serious about it. All in good fun.

I'm sure the new characters will be excellent. I adore the idea of the story being told as if passed into legend.
I'd like to say I'm on the side of cautious optimism, but I honestly didn't feel any real connection with any of the NPCs in ME2 the way I did with the same NPCs as ME1. They felt very... throwaway. I've since read that this was on purpose - an effort to keep the NPCs alive for ME3 - and I hope that is so. I have a hard time believing that BioWare - basically the only company left who remembers how to tell a story - would design subpar characters without knowing that they'd done so.
One thing about the hero in DA:O not being voiced was I felt no real connection to him/her. Thus I can see a whole new character in the same world delivering all the familiarity I want - only the Warden being absent.
And while we're on the subject, BioWare, of voice actors can we PLEASE get Jennifer Hale to voice the female Hawke? She MADE ME1/2 for me, and she has defined many other roles through gaming history (Bastila, anyone?)

Sorry to be the bubble-burster here but Hale has been confirmed as NOT voicing Hawke. It was in a post by David Gaider last night (I think it was last night).
Edit: Found it

Being proved wrong on those two points would be absolutely delightful.

That the voiced PC will suck. I did like the silent PC and Im thinking that this change is a bad idea. But I will give it a try and see what comes from it.
That my warden will be completely forgotten.
That the dialogue wheel will be problematic as it is in ME.

This is a good thing, for me at least. I love Jen Hale, but I've heard her in so many games/shows that I can almost immediately pick out her voice if I'm paying any modicum of attention. Her voice is Shep for me.
Now if only they could get Grey Delisle for DA2...
