My squadmates are suppose to be the "best of the best" correct? Why do I have to babysit them for certain things?

For example:
Garrus is taking cover and gets hit by a heavy weapon that knock him back alittle... why doesn't he return to his cover position? He instead sits wherever he was knocked back to until incapacitated or I tell him to go back to the cover.

Do I really have to command him to take cover again? Is that how it is intended?

Other problems are concerning squadmates taking cover in the wrong direction, which I'm lenient on, but sometimes its just down right ridiculous, especially when playing on Insanity mode.

Also, Kasumi - I'll tell her to do a Shadow Strike on an enemy, no obstructions, she'll decloak next to the target and just sit there. So I do a movement command to send her back, and she moves several steps - then sits there... until I resend the movement command, and continues to do the same move several steps then sit.

Anyone else having this problem? Was it a bad idea to buy a digital copy of ME2? Any help/tips to fix/empathy is welcome... I'm rapidly losing interest in playing this game.
