an "action/rpg" is an oxymoron... like jumboshrimp. it doesn't make any sense. you can hav a game jam packed full of action where you observe the cool stuff your character is doing, or you can hav an rpg where you play the ROLE of your character & shape the story to your liking. THEY DO NOT MIX!!!
Your making end-all statements like "apes and horses cannot breed." The issue is not the same here. There are plenty of action rpgs out on the market, and they sell well. They aren't completely action games, and they are't pure rpgs either (which is presumable why you dislike them).
Not liking them is your opinion, not fact. And I'm seeing alot of presumptions on the facts here. Namely, "anything less than a cRPG is lukewarm horse****." I'm not going to argue that cRPGs are fun. But you'ld think people would be able to accept getting something that deviates from what they want.
Yeah, right. Who am I kidding?
I'm not going to argue that the ME system confines and dumbs down things. (Though remember that both previous games were made with sequels in mind, so that constrains matters.) But is that so unnacceptable? There has been many denials of being a PC elitest, but half the people on this thread seem unable to accept anything less that a cRPG. If this is the case, the you've probably been disapointed many times before DA2, and will probably be again.
And of course, there's the little detail that the game isn't out yet.

Why did you? Surely you realize this board exists for fans, and not exactly for developers to read and comment--although they do? And that we have the reply option?

k obviously alot has changed (graphics/gameplay/etc.) BUT what the true rpg fans really care about is the ROLE PLAYING GAME itself. bioware is taking the roots of rpg's & yanking them off the ground. with someone playing the role of hawke, you'll just be playing the game. the franchize is taking YOUR ROLE from RPG and giving you a "PG" pretty much.
the idea of a role is to BE the character. with the character reacting with expressions of his own it fills his role, leaving you to just play the game.
Huh? Which reactions is the DA2 protagonist supposed to be making without our input?

How many times must it be pointed out that there are plenty of highly regarded crpgs with even less customisation of the protagonist than DA2 will have.

It really doesn't matter, some people are determined to hate DA2. Might be a great game but the inclusion of some feature (or exclusion) is beyond forgivable. Not everyone has to like every change that might have been made (I personally am not a fan of the new darkspawn look) but being objective is also unwelcomed

I suppose you don't need to be, but if you don't like the games, I see no reason to be here besides troll how much you don't like them. There's no reason to post on a board like this if you don't like their games--a website like Kotaku, or GameInformer, or IGN can suit the all-around gaming needs. I think liking them or their games is a bit of a factor when joining a forum for fans.
Did I say you need to be a hardcore nutcase? No. I suppose you assume that though, so that's nice for you, I guess.

Well technically if they were zombies then they would be undead so they could still make an apperance in DR3
Here comes the sarcasim.
Where is the love for us TRUE BioWare fans. You know the fans from the good ole Shattered Steel days? How dare BioWare change gears and make a wonderfully silly game like MDK2. Oh and something about the games that came after and the fans those game drew in are just posers and could never be a real fan because first and foremost BioWare is a giant robot walker game maker and never was a RPG maker.

If you have played MDK1, you'll admit that MDK2 was much worse, they just made it a platform game. Hell, thinking about it, they just streamlined that game also

I think it's as dead as it can get. It has been sold to another company (EA), regardless of what the devs that hang around here will say, other people decides about the business model Bioware follows. And to start with, as someone said above, they (especially the owners) were quite greedy even before EA bought them, otherwise they wouldn't sell their company in the first place. Yeah right, bigger budget, more resources, blah-blah... More money in their pocket, plain and simple.
Have you ever worked in a software development environment? Just look at Real Time Worlds, dev of APB. In the software world, EVERYONE is looking to either be bought, or get bought.
It's the nature of capitalism. It's a greed driven model. You can't blame Bioware for following the flawed, yet legal rules of capitalism, we all have to in this world. Even communist china employs capitalism (although the chinese flavor)
I'm actually not a big fan of the model, as it's a model that favors the top 10% richest people in the world. But it is the model everyone must follow.
You can have an EA Dragon Age, or what were the other choices? Self publish and go bankrupt? Sell to EIDOS who got bought by Sqeenix?
Or try the 38 studios method of snaking government loans from hard hit economic states like RI? The options out there are scary.
I know because I work at a company that was like a "bioware" of my industry. We were in a funk back in the early 2001 recession, made a deal with "the devil" and 10 years later, the devil came to get his due. Now he pwnz us.
Other other option at the time was to make a deal with the devil's son in law, or developmentally disabled cousin. Wasn't my decision at the time (company is huge, i'm not a VP) the other option was to fire 50% of the company and pray to Zeus?
My industry does not get goverment bailouts, most of our competitors from those 2001 days have also been bought, usually by HUGE overseas conglomerates.

Sorry for the misunderstanding! I generally only use that smiley when I'm being all sardonic and snobby.
Which is why I occasionally turn to dA for help when the BioWare board emotes aren't helping:

I agree 100% with you in your analysis. Then again, I just can't stand it when I hear from the ex-owners of Bioware that they sold the company because they were thinking how to make better games and all that crap, they sold it for teh money. Because my opinion is that the majority of the workers at Bioware may even saw a cut at their salary and beneficials from when EA took control. The top officers though probably getting fat bonuses, that's EA system, if things go well, it rewards the executives, not the artists.
