Hmm well first off I wanna say that the thought of a Hawke-Beth romance is not something I want having sister's myself. That said I have to ask this: What if it wasn't a sexual relationship? What if the relationship was simply a emotionally romantic one, with no sex involved? In this way there is no screwing up of the genetics. No "OMG he is shagging his sister!!!" thing going on. Would there still be this same moral outrage? Would people still call it creepy and be so against it as an option? I have to say that this is something that I would like to hear peoples reactions on. I mean is this resistance coming mainly from the fact that most people find the thought of having sexual relationships with your sibling wrong, or because people find te whole thought of having a romantic love for your sibling wrong?

See, that's whats wrong with this world. People keep acting like all love is the same thing. It is not, nor should it be. Romantic love and familial love are two entirely different things. Am I opposed to Hawke to have a healthy love for his sister? Of course not. Am I opposed to Hawke being in love with his sister? You bet your ass.

1) You might want to check your facts. Several countries in Europe decriminalized incest - and these aren't third world slabs of land. The only line drawn is marraige or an adult/minor relationship. What consensual adults do in private is not really the state's business. These countries understand that.

*sigh* You don't see the big picture, do you? "Oh, nobody is getting hurt when two people are in an incestuous relationship." Perhaps not directly, but think about it. If we don't draw the line now, if we allow these unions to be allowed, then what do you think will result? Children will result, weakened genetically from the union itself and weakened further by the belief that they can do the same. What happens to the next generation, and then the next? Oh, people are getting hurt, Spear-Thrower. You just don't see it.

Also not to sound like the Bloodthirsty American that I am. Well yes kind of a little bit extremely to sound like the bloodthirsty American that I am. Murder is indeed more awesome than incest.

Damn that is a sentence I would never have imagined myself saying. And it looks quite terrible in writing. But I'll hit the submit button anyway, after all this topic is quite, well no its not that interesting. It is kind of well, there is a word for it said multiple times on this page in fact. ok just one time now that I look up to check my facts. Unless it is uttered again as I type this.

But yeah even acts of simulated murder are better than simulated incest. See that just sounds wrong, even when clarified. But whatever.

Why does every NPC has to be romanceable? As much as I think a good romance subplot adds to the believability of the world and broadens the gaming world (with in the confines of a specific game), etc. Not every NPC or not even every companion needs to be or should be romanceable .. .

I have a feeling that Bioware will be critisized a lot more for including incest into their game, rather than that leap they took allowing homosexual relationships. Not that I have a problem with that, but I know a lot of people who just found that "off".

I think people should remember that incest is not illegal in every country. It's one of the last taboos to be broken.

Do I want a Bethany/Hawke romance? No, but it's not quite as bad as the moral outrage in this thread. Last I checked murder is illegal, but you kill countless people in these games - and not always in self defense. A bit of the old ultraviolence never hurts though.

There was no form of contraception so men had sex with other men to have sex, but not have a risk of getting someone pregnant.
Only when Rome fell and the world went into the Dark Ages did the world turn totally topsy-turvy. King brothers married their queen half sisters to secure the royal blood into one line. This of course proved to be a bad idea as only one out of five children (especially royal born children as incest was mostly only in royal families) made it to adulthood
