Someone who played the demo at PAX said that Varric didn't look like he had downs syndrome, so that's a good thing, right?
If you looked at the stream, Cassandra is.. ugh. Giant cat-like eyes.

He looked better than that fugly screenshot we got, but...I mean it's not like it's a different person. He still looks more or less like that. I just mean he doesn't seem as fugly. I'm sure seeing him in motion and hearing the voice helps.namedforthemoon wrote...
Did Varric look more like his sexy concept art, or did he look like the big fat lug that we saw in the screen shot that's been going around the forums? Can you describe Varric in more detail? Any detail... Anything. lol
A la this:
If that's the case, I hope Varric just has his face scrunched up in a distasteful sneer or something. Those are quite the nostrils.

Who says he isn't? MAKE IT SO, BIOWARE!
(I prefer in-game Varric to the DA:O attempt :x Sorry)

So basically what I'm saying is, it wouldn't surprise me if he did know how to do lady hair.

I think Varric would be one of those people who knows how to do just about everything, including the weirdest things. Like...you're trying to crochet a tea cozy and you get stuck and he comes up out of nowhere and is all "No no it's like THIS" and you ask him how in the hell he knows how to crochet a tea cozy and he goes "Oh, that. Funny story..." And you just listen going o_O
So basically what I'm saying is, it wouldn't surprise me if he did know how to do lady hair.

On the other hand, I've had a great time explaining to my fellow artist types that no matter what they design professionally, no matter how hard they try, no matter if they've been assigned to design the most gruff, macho, abrasive character on the planet, somebody somewhere is going to draw that character getting... acquainted with... everything and anything else they have designed.
@Anarya: I've always wanted a character like that, busting in with something that at first glance you would find out of character. In my own version of that scenario I've always imagined a Bond style ballroom event infiltration, and while a female character is getting dressed, the most macho, burly, somber guy of the group comes in and says, "no, no, that's a sundress, what are you thinking?!"
Gotta keep things fresh in the genre :X

He's the narrator of DA2, a party member, a rogue, a merchant prince.ReconTeam wrote...
They really need to make this Varric fellow look exactly like the guy on the chair. I don't know who Varric is, just that he is a hero, a bloody icon.
What does he do exactly?
He also has epic chest hair. But you knew that.

Don't quote me on this but from what I've gathered.
Varric traveled with Hawke and knows much about him and how the world is falling apart, Cassandra is trying to find out more about Hawke and to find out "wtf" is going on. So she's pretty much drilling Varric for information but Varric loves having her listening so he plays around and teases her as he tells the story to Cassandra.
The story is when we get gametime, we play the game as Varric recounts it. Essentially, when we kill Tom the Farmer then Varric is telling Cassandra that Hawke killed Tom the Farmer. Some times though Varric's imagination gets the better of him and he exaggerates the story, so Hawke will be killing things in one hit and they explode into puddles of gore.
In other words, he's awesome. People are wanting a romance with him, just imagine how awesome that would be when he's telling a story about his lover. "So, Hawke has gigantic breasts that put broodmothers to shame!" and such.

@Yukidama: Haha... oh my overactive imagination... Varric seems like he's gonna be a very engaging character but I can't hop on the Varric LI train yet. I have too much sympathy for writers who didn't expect to see or read of their characters in certain compromising situations. Even if they know the fan-mush is coming but still had no intention of it being so in canon. I doubt anyone could be so naive after visiting this forum, yet I still cringe.

It's true. People who create characters are just going to have to make peace with the fact that somewhere out there, someone is jerking it to your creation.
And I'm going to be a little disappointed if Varric isn't as awesome as the version I have in my head. I'm not too worried, however. I trust Mary.

I love ridiculous amounts of gore and drama and what have you in games, but filtered through Varric, it means that things were probably really mundane in "reality." I mean, a REASON for Tarantino level amounts of blood?! It's so fourth wall breaking, meta, mind screwy I love that idea to death ;3;

But it gets back to normal-DA:O levels when Cassandra goes "BULL****!" and gets him to tell the truth.

This to me could possibly be the best new feature of DA2 if it's used right.
