Just asking a question for the girlies out there. What would you expect from a Varric romance?

Something on-again-off-again... just seems the sort that you just mutally get along with well, have YOWZA moments, and do your own thing as associates/pals most of the time.  Kinda like... I dunno what a good example is.  But you got things to do, he's got things to do, no-offense-none-taken hey our paths cross far too often not to have a little fun but eh, life is life.

I only suggest such a thing because... well, it IS 10 years!  In the shorter Origins span you couldn't really map such a thing, and honestly sounds like an interesting way to go about stuff since as fem!Hawke you're becoming the Hero of Kirkwall, and Varric's a bleeding Merchant Prince.  So it isn't like you guys don't have your own sphere of influences and there's a high chance your personalities and jobs will lead you apart, but deep down... well, soul mates isn't the right word, but there's some sort of oddball connection going on where you find yourselves hanging out again.  Two old bachelors of sorts.

Worth noting that while his family might have been noble, Varric was born in Kirkwall after they were expelled from Orzammar. Which means curiously enough he probably isn't very up on Dwarf culture, unless he has since spent time down there trading.

Personally I think he follows Hawke because Hawke owes him money (or similar), then has a sort of Han Solo-like transformation over the course of the game.

Whilst posting tripe and garbage on the trailer thread I managed to remind myself of one of my favourite sitcom side characters, I'd like Varric to be like Father Fintan Stack from Father Ted.

 

I think he would benefit greatly from being a comedy psychotic companion.

Okay so the trailer is up on the main site in case anyone missed it.



Varric isn't shown (unless he is in the stupidly fast montage in the trailer) however he WAS shown while Mike was talking in a still on the main screen. His chest hair looks suitably magnificant and as far as I could tell the smirk was intact, not sure about the hair though. /perfectionist.



As for the trailer itself... Well going to re-watch the montage a few thousand times now but first:



-Confirmation there will be only 2 narrators from Mike. Unless there is a secret narrator they are avoiding mentioning. Most likely they mean Varric and Cass? Or Varric and someone else?



-Default Hawke is apparently some sort of arcane warrior/bloodmage. They obviously realised that that particular build was godly in Origins... Apostate Hawke to be the default story then?



-Hawke battles a Qunari warrior at Kirkwall. All while Flemmeth is discussing destiny and whatnot. Seeing as it was not a special hornless Qunari, if this fight has any bearing on the story (and in I think it might, given the montage as well) then we could see a Qunari invasion of the Free Marches. Very interesting Sten-potential right there. I don't care if he died in your game.



-Hawke's 'mageyness'. It's debatable that this is some new warrior stuff, a weapon that shoots fire and whatnot. However that doesn't explain the fire he shoved in the Qunari's face, nor his use of blood and the glowy red eyes. It reeked of blood mage warrior to me, but it could be something Flemmeth related, seeing as they are bigging up her 'dragon' form then we all know Dragon's can grant strange powers (reaver spec).



And yes all of this is totally relevant to the Varric thread. He is the narrator afterall so he is the one telling us all this >.>

Why didn't they put it in the trailer? Instead they put Flemeth with her very very nice voice actress. I wanted Varric dammit!
