I really don't see what the big deal is about his height. I've seen so many people on the f!Brosca/m!Brosca/m!Aeducan with Leliana train, and the f!Aeducan/Alistair train. There are some people who'd prefer a "regular" sized romance, but the fact that he's a dwarf shouldn't detract from his character. If anything, it should add to it. Plus, the programmers could work with the kiss/hug/tent/whatever scenes to make them work. Modders have done it; I'm sure professionals would be capable.

I agree, But we as gamers must see things from a marketing standpoint. But Bioware just won't do it Cause Short chunky male romances do not appeal to the Average gamer

Ah, yes, because short and chunky really are the only aspects of Varric that are why we want to possibly romance him anyway. :)

As I said, I'll be disappointed if he's not an option, but there will always be fanworks. Not only that, but should we be getting the updated toolset, I hope someone will make a mod or something for him. I just don't see why the fact that he's a dwarf should impact his position as an LI. The dwarves in the Dragon Age universe are a hundred times more awesome than dwarves in any other 'verse.

Eh. David Gaider has expressed hesitance and reluctance over the idea--I'm not saying that prevents him from being a LI, oh no, but it just goes to show that height sort of does make a difference. They're much like hairy children to me, sometimes, and that's hard to get over.

I don't get the height difference thing either (like, why is it ok for the LI to be taller?). I get that it's not everyone's bag, but don't see how that eliminates him from being an LI, just because the PC is human. The dwarves look like kids argument doesn't cut it with me (never seen a kid built like any DAO dwarf, for sure) Meh, but from a marketing standpoint... hmm.

For the records all my dwarves have (and will) romance humans :P If they like it and are two consenting adults, I don't see why it is anyone's business~~

Yeah, I know, I was around when he "expressed hesitance and reluctance." That said, we've already accumulated near 200 pages of posts over two threads, have amassed a ton of fanart, and have genuinely been very vocal about our approval of making that sort of thing happen. There will always be a group of people who find a certain LI unpalatable. (Personally, I'm not really big on Thane. Love Garrus; Thane bores the britches off me, to be honest.) Tons of people hate the idea of romancing Garrus, just like others seriously balk and screech DO NOT WANT and the idea of romancing Ashley or Kaidan. BioWare's never going to please everyone with a certain LI. It's much easier to sate the appetites of one group at a time.

That said, I don't see why Varric shouldn't be the dwarf-lovers' turn to be "sated."

I typically stray from jumping into these monster threads, but there's nothing else going on right now, so what the hell?

I highly doubt he will be a love interest. To weave that into the framed narrative, what is likely a delicate web of plotlines and potential continuity errors as it is, simply would not be worth the trouble. When also taking into account BioWare's known reluctance towards Dwarf LIs, it just doesn't seem likely.

As I said, he's the only revealed male in the entire game--at this point, we have nothing to compare him against in terms of "fanbase". For all we know, the next revealed character will get 200 pages in a day or something. Maybe Varric will be BioWare's most popular character to date. It's relative.

However, I think I'll stop here, because I don't think I can properly express my views on dwarven LIs in a Varric fanthread without being seen as trolling.

David Gaider mentioned a reluctance towards dwarf LIs. As far as I know, he hardly counts for all of BioWare. (David, don't smite me! Iloveyou!) Also taking into account how much love has been spread around to the dwarves in the fanbase, I wouldn't be surprised at all if a dwarven LI was somewhere on the horizon. Maybe not Varric, but that doesn't discount the possibility of DA3 or whatever comes after.

Also, I felt I should post this screenshot I took forever ago. Behold the vast height difference.

Hehehe, male dwarves are at boob height! How that isn't beneficial, I don't know.

Plus, dwarves'll totally cut you for trying to tell them who not to romance.

The only problem I could see with Varric as an LI is the narrative thing. It'd require a lot of extra dialogue on Varric's VA's part and it might get confusing in terms of how stuff links together. I dunno. I am sure professionals would know how to do it, it'd just require more work (totally worth it, and a ~sacrifice I am willing to make~ lmao!)

I love Varric and want him as an LI. However...

Does anyone else think that it looks like Cassandra shaved off one of his eyebrows in retaliation for some smartassed comment he made the night before?

Heh, it probably just looks that way because that side of his face has more shadows on it and the fact that the image is stretched out and caused a loss of quality.

From my estimate it does look gone, the side/bounce light on that side of his face would be enough to light a brow. I think he's just got very deep set eyes has one lowered. Or, yeah. Crap image quality.

Well, yeah. This seems to be the original picture and it is a screencap of a picture on a screen in a room, so it's not the best quality to begin with. Especially when you stretch it out to such a level. If it's a small detail that already got lost to begin with, making it all huge and pixelly isn't gonna help xD

I remember way back (I can't find the quote) on the old boards somebody (I think it was Gaider) said there would eventually be a dwarf romance. It was never said when / what game / what year / what dimension, though. :(

Cassandra's cheekbones make me so happy. And I like the almost low-poly... kinda... planar look the armor has gotten. So unique *__*

*shakes head* On topic!

Its a shame the first image anyone snagged of him/them in game has to be so awkward, but at least there's an image to be had.

I saw that, too! It'd be a pain in the ass to go back and look for it, though. I know someone linked it recently. Somewhere.

Also, the more I see that screenshot of Varric, the more I like it. I can't wait to see it in action.

Maybe if we do our adorable Bronto eyes, somebody at Bioware will have pity for us and show us Varric in all his glory?

Dwarves don't have puppies, instead we have the Bronto eyes. (Although I fear this won't do any good)

Question to all the people who are sort-of against the idea of dwarf romances, though. Why? Do you think it would be unsuccessful? Doesn't the success of the Garrus / Tali romances prove that even if you think it won't work, there would be a lot of fans for a dwarf (*cough*Varric*cough*) romance?

Height, mostly. They look like hairy children. Like I said, Zevran was weird enough. Some humans are that short, sometimes. Generally, though, height correlates with age, and it's hard for me to seperate the two. Besides that, they are short as a species. They'll never get taller, and they're always child-sized.

It's relative to my own height of course, but people that short are like children to me. This option would be more acceptable if I myself could be a dwarf--it's easier to accept when you're the PC and everything is taller and the camera is at your eye-level. As a dwarf in Orzammar, you don't seem small at all. But as a person who's only ever human? Ehh.
