And would there ever be a steady and large population of surface dwarves outside of Ferelden and far from Orzammar?

Shouldn't that be 1917 ?Russalka wrote...

Amen to that! (Although the Drunk-on-Limoncellos-for-the-First-Time Danny was HIL-larious, and very Varrician!)Russalka wrote...

I still do not get why you girls love Alistair so freaking much. It's like Kaiden it just doesn't make any freaking sense to me what so ever. Probably something to do with the big goofy puppy thing he has going on but I do not get it. At least Varric I can understand.

What happened in 1917?
Or should I say with the mandatory reference... What in Varric's name happened in 1917?

Speaking of paragons, I doubt it would be so, but could there have been some foreshadowing mentioning of Varric's house in DA:O?

There are surface dwarf populations in most major cities. Orzammar trades with most nations in Thedas, and everywhere that Orzammar sends goods, you find a population of the "surface caste" conducting business between the humans and the dwarves. Ferelden has a disproportionate number of them for the size and wealth of the country because it's sitting on top of the entrance to Orzammar. You'll actually find a lot more surface dwarves in Val Royeaux, Minrathous, Nevarra, Antiva City, Kirkwall, and Dairsmuid.

Well, following on your reference to 1914, (and given your moniker and earlier avatar) I had pictured you (at least the on-line "you") as having ties (at least of pseudo-nostalgia) to the Romanovs. While 1914 marked the beginnng of a long, long disaster worthy of many, many tears, 1917 was the end of their rule (and the beginning of another long, long disaster.)Russalka wrote...

I've read through this thread a few times and just now have the courage to post. I'm more of a lurker, so yeah, I tend to stick to the shadows and just read rather than participate. Hopefully as the time passes, I'll start to break out of my shell and share my thoughts more.
Hm, anyway, I have some thoughts on who might be voicing Varric. You could say the idea came to me suddenly as Harrowmont had me running errands for him. Just as I was about to head off to take care of Jarvia, I stopped dead in my tracks and thought aloud, "I wonder if Robin Sach's is Varric's VA? His American accent as Harrowmont is flawless and his voice matches the description of Varric's (deep and a bit scratchy/gravely--maybe more so as Murdoch, but that was with an English accent)." I would love for this to be true, personal bias aside, of course. I will also add that I was reminded again of Robin Sachs when I heard Varric would be narrating some of the story as Varel did in Awakenings. Oh, and for giggles, look! VAREL<--> VARRIC. The VARs have spoken! So let it be.
Silliness aside, I'm probably wrong as I tend to read WAY too much into some things and the VA is probably not Robin, but still, if it was AND Varric was a confirmed LI, I'd go ahead and forgive Bioware for not making Varel romanceable in Awakenings. ;P

Interesting.
My first mental image strangely enough was of Varric and Oghren teaming up to take the Warden. Hawke and co. on an epic pub crawl of epic epicness.

Fix'd.
Also, @ACWolfe, Robin Sachs is delightful, I wouldn't mind him at all.

That fix was beyond awesome. He was supposed to be sleeping, but I forgot the "ZZZZZZ".
Just a quick drawing, I'll make a better one later.

Personally, I don't think Varric / Oghren would get along. If only because nobody gets along with Oghren.

I never said anything about them getting along.
There is no doubt they are very different Dwarves, but I can see them being the ringleaders on such a booze fueled 'exalted' march heh, each with their own opinion on what would make it more fun.
Incidentally am I the only one who liked Oghren in Awakening? He is just so wonderfully... Oghren.
