That's just how the world is. For every person out there that's willing to look past what's on the outside, there's just as many who will be too repulsed to go much further.
Frankly I'll love the magnificent bastard no matter what he looks like. What we've learned about his personality has already won me over, and I can easily see him becoming a good friend (and possibly more) to my Hawke during their journey.

Well you went on the offensive as soon as I mentioned that a male character (handsome in concept art) might not be attractive in game, claiming "it's a bad shot" "thats not his good side" "he's making a face!" You seemed to actually take offense.

But then went into how it doesn't matter what a character looks like as long as they have a good personality.

How do you think thats going to end?

Nice, now see this, this is a great response. I totally agree! They can make him look like fat bast*** for all I care... the minute I learned how he starts off Hawke's tale I was a fan. Argh, I can't wait to see him weave his tales. I hope he fills Alistair's shoes as the good buddy/comic relief. Although for some reason he's reminding me of Yoshimo from BG2 more then anything at this point. Which is great cause he was one of my fav companions.

Alright, buddy, let's see.

You stroll into a Varric fanthread. You post a screenshot from weeks ago (that we've obviously seen) and try to start a discussion (that we've obviously discussed). Many of us - me included - don't mind that screenshot at all. We know they caught him either mid-sentence or mid-expression. We've also watched the UStream and seen him, however blurry, in action. 

Either the fact that I was explaining the screenshot to you in an attempt to make you realize oh hey he's really not that hideous because I don't believe that he is surprised you or that you were so shocked by the fact that personality and voice actually matters to some of us that you ceased making any sense. 

But, really, in the end, that doesn't matter, as you're going to contort what I say around anyway to make it look like I'm running circles on myself. Which I'm not.

Agreed 100%. Regardless of how he looks, Varric is still Varric.
Am I the only one who imagines him as being somewhat of a demonstrative story teller? You know, the kind that uses big gestures to help emphasize certain aspects of a story? Regardless, he has to be good if he's able to get people to buy him drinks just to spin a yarn or two. (Or for Cassandra to have singled him out... Though we all know she's regretting that choice by now... Poor woman looks like she's in desperate need of an aspirin whenever I see official pictures of her. )

Thats cool... seems like their new cinematic approach may well pay off! I like the idea the hands can be so manipulated in cut scenes to pull something like that off. Small stuff like that can really define a character.

Ahhh, now  I see...  Caught a certain "new to this  thread" poster's entry over on the "What do we Know so far?" thread, and discover, it seems to me, that person came over here in an attempt to stir-up comments of unhappiness with BioWare's Varric design choices, which would support the POV previously expressed there.

(Maybe because the poster  is the one unhappy with the way Varric, who 'til now was an acceptably attractive drinking buddy and/or wanna-be LI, appeared in the screenshots?   Just askin'...  )

Lol, I should have seen this response coming. I guess it's unacceptible to bring up the same point in two threads, eh? Nobody does that right? Right?

Actually, I found the picture online, it was linked to the What we Know so far thread, responded to it there, and realised afterwords, the Varric thread is prob the best place to see what the reactions towards it was.

Makes a little too much sense right? Creepy!

Your theory about me being unhappy with the way Varric looks is kinda offset by the fact I don't care what he looks like and the fact I really dug how he looked in the pic.
