I can only remember one dwarven rogue from DAO, Leski, and he was using DW by default. I too have a hard time picturing a dwarf running around with a bow. But anything is possible with Varric.

I've decided to repost this comment to further explain the goal of cutting down on banter in Appreciation threads

:) It's not that I'm trying to bully the appreciation threads. Its just that one person makes an appreciation thread, with the intent of discussing something, and then 5 other people make their own threads because they feel they aren't represented enough, but then 4 of those threads turn out to page and page of just banter and not discussion, the exact reason why the Tali Love thread was banned for a few months from being a topic.

It's not good to have appreciation threads chock full of bumps, and back and forth banter, because it essentially pushes more legitimate threads with questions and other more serious discussion to pages 3 and 4 and so on, until you have a full page full of nothing but fan love, which is great, but the majority of the time, that belongs in the Group Section

They should do more dwarves with ranged weapons though. My Orlesian dwarfette was amazing.
The more I think about this, the more and more I can imagine Varric having a crossbow. It fits his character (or what we know so far of his character) in some strange way.

Um...was Jarvia a rogue, or a warrior? She was a DW, though.

I'm fairly certain that she was a Rogue, I think I remember being backstabbed multiple times by her,

Jarvia was definitely a rogue. She had that annoying POOF GONE, OH LOOK I'M OVER HERE, BACKSTABBING YOU power.

That said, I'm really liking the idea of Varric being a DW. I'm hoping so hard that he's not an archer. Urgh. No thank you. Plus, he just seems like a DW.

A rogue. Her disappearing antics were quite annoying.

EDIT: WHY am I getting ninja'd so often today?!

God, I love the toolset.

She is, indeed, a rogue.

EDIT: Okay, you know what, this is off-topic (but worth saying and the last I'll say of it), but through the power of mindless Wikipedia/TV Tropes like tabbing through the toolset, I was reading Rica's character description, and under her Special Skills description was "Nothing we can show in a non-AO game". I burst out laughing.

It'd be cool if Varric wasnt the conventional dagger dual-wielder and instead maybe used a mace and a axe or something. Just to keep things fresh.

@Herr Uhl: What makes you think Kal'Sharok consists of modern Dwarves? I don't neccesarily disagree, just curious. Kal'Sharok intrigues me because I can't help but feel there is a story waiting to be told there in regards to how it has survived. Judging by the codex I believe itw as considered lost thousands of years ago? Or am I getting my dates wrong? I seem to remember the main reason Orzammar has survived is due to it's proximity to the surface, so Kal'Sharok is an oddity waiting to be explored. What country is it under again?

I meant it in the way that they probably wont have the caste system, and they are untraditional. As hinted by the dialog that one of the heads of the noble houses, L-something can't remember his name, has with Endrin at your feast during the DN origin. It was considered lost, yes. When they drew back to Orzammar, the tunnels connecting Kal'Sharok with the Orzammar and presumably the surface were collapsed to hinder the darkspawn. Later they managed to surface.

It has been described as the Pegasus to Orzammars Galactica by Gaider.

Edit: Though admittedly, they would probably not have too much contact with the surface.

Intriguing!

According to the map Kal'Sharok is fairly close to Weisshaupt Fortress but considering their reluctance to mingle with other dwarves, it's hard to tell what their relationship would be with the Grey Wardens.

And now I can catch up to the thread.. ya'll post like crazy, every day I'm waking up to 5 or 6 more pages here but I love you guys and gals for it.<3

Crossbow Varric sounds badass, but only if crossbows are not as useless as in Origins.

If he's an archer, I'm making a dual wield rogue. I really want to see epic finishing kills as a rogue instead of archery's relatively tame nature (this is suspecting Archery gets no finishers of it's own)

Awwww come on, tell me it wouldnt be cool to hear Varric say some cool line in his gruff voice and then sticking a crossbow bolt into somebodies brain.

After which a fountain of blood sprays out MGS2 style .

Mm.. hey, a crossbow could work. I just can't picture Varric busting onto the scene with a regular bow and arrow. He'd look like some bizarre Legolas/Gimli lovechild. Do not want.

Varric is the only char in game to have the special "dual-wield" crossbow talent.

Imagine that, soak in all its glorrryyyyyyy.

I am surprised every time I load the game how true this is.

Crossbow is pretty badass... like a ye olde shotgun. Or something. He should get two mini crossbows and wield them like pistols... and do tricks with them... or not. The mental imagery is much better than the potential coolness factor.

I vote DW, with a side of Naked Snake-level knowledge and appreciation of blades. Like, he could be falling over drunk but get right back on his feet if he catches the unique glint of a very rare or well made dagger.

Edit: Agh Jarek beat me to the DW crossbow. Well done, sir.

It's just... when I imagine this one guy who's running a spy network throughout an entire city and hangs out in bars, I don't see him walking around with a crossbow / bow on his back. I'd imagine him more with a sheathed dagger underneath his coat that he'd pull out if he's ever threatened.

Why not both?

We could have two wep slots in Origins after all.

I'm thinking something similar to Oghren. By the time you finally recruited Oghren, he was already completely specialized and prepared for 2h wielding that placing points into anything else would just make him inferior. Although my fears might just be baseless, DA2 might not follow the same system as Origins with this and Varric seems like a character you'd recruit earlier than most.

You know, initially when I read that metaphor that sums up the difference between Kal-Sharok and Orzammar, my first thought immediately veered off to how the former may have revert to a more 'uncivilized' or 'baser' way of life, but that's how a human would immediately assume. Perhaps what it means is that Kal-Sharokians do away with whatever 'civilized' dwarven practices that would cut down their survivability, including the rigid caste system, strict gender roles, marriage practices, etc. For all you know, if Hawke manages to step into Kal-Sharok, s/he might stumble into a Care Bear-esque dwarven commune (a bloody, violent care bear commune I reckon, but still...)

But, okay, veering back to...

Seeing that the Tethras Clan was Nobility back in Orzammar, I'm wondering how did they end up in the surface? Were they exiled, or was there a major scandal that forced a self-exile, or was it just simply that the first Surface-bound Tethras Partriach/Martriach was fed up with politics and just went "F*** YOU GUIS, I'M GOING TOPSIDE!!"? The latter would prove ironic, as the Dwarven Merchant Guild isn't so much different from what we've read so far ^o^ Ah well, you can take a dwarf out of Orzammar, but you can't take Orzammar out of a dwarf ^w^

As for Varric's weapon of choice, maybe he's a dagger and grenade combo? Oh, imagine the friendly-fire fun times ^o^

This makes me want to draw him riding a Nug saying "F*** DA PO-LICE."

Also, the version of Varric that resides in my brain now spends his down time reading trashy romance novels. Seeeecretlyyy of course. That picture is majestic.
