Is it completely wrong of me to see how Varric would react to "spending some time" with the beautiful Stone Temptress?

I immediately assumed that the book was an erotic novel about a Golem Temptress.

I've been on the internet too long.

Seeing that the Tethras Clan was Nobility back in Orzammar, I'm wondering how did they end up in the surface? Were they exiled, or was there a major scandal that forced a self-exile, or was it just simply that the first Surface-bound Tethras Partriach/Martriach was fed up with politics and just went "F*** YOU GUIS, I'M GOING TOPSIDE!!"?

I'm curious about this myself, I could understand a person or two but an entire noble house can simply be thrown out of Orzammar? If it's exile, they probably did something huge.

So, I'm being told that people are comparing the Tali threads to the Varric threads.

.....

This, to me, is hilarious.

I don't get it either. Are we not raging enough about Dragon Effect in this forum and asking questions everyone knows the answer to?

Anyway enough about that.

Yaaay more Varric art. Color me unsurprised he'd be into The Stone Temptress. :D

It's preposterous indeed. Everybody knows Tali have no chest hair at all.

I didnt "compare" this thread to it, I was just speculating on if the fangirls (or boys) would defend Varric as much as Tali.

But that discussion is over. Lets keep it that way.

Now come on are you honestly saying you can't picture him using a custom made high tension heavy crossbow with a dragonbone inlaid grip, and stock with a heavily engraved Volcanic Aurum bow, and a draw string made from the hair of twenty five Dalish Virgins with a kick like that of a charging bronto?

I think I missed something here.

But I think Varric is more a dual-wield kinda rogue.

This makes me want to draw him riding a Nug saying "F*** DA PO-LICE."

Make it so, friend. It would be a grand image indeed :3

Also, the version of Varric that resides in my brain now spends his down time reading trashy romance novels. Seeeecretlyyy of course. That picture is majestic.

Gentlemen novels, Varric insists.

Oh, I think it'd be the other way around, if it were the case :D

Actually, you're not that far off the mark, my friend...

Perhaps a coup attempt against the ruling Aeducans? If that were the case, I bet by the end of Origins, the Tethras ancestors would have the last laugh (if the Warden went the Harrowmont route, that is...)

Please... move away from the evilness and try to keep this thread unlocked. We've received two warnings, I don't want to lose this awesomeness. :(

He strikes me as more of a DW rogue as well. Not many dwarves seem to use bows in the first place.

Then again if we get him early enough we can probably spec him into whatever we want, I suppose.

The benefit of DW Daggers though is that he can salivate over the make of the weapon x 2.
Also, "the hair of twenty five Dalish Virgins"?? Brilliant.

I meant it in
the way that they probably wont have the caste system, and they are
untraditional. As hinted by the dialog that one of the heads of the
noble houses, L-something can't remember his name, has with Endrin at
your feast during the DN origin. It was considered lost, yes. When they
drew back to Orzammar, the tunnels connecting Kal'Sharok with the
Orzammar and presumably the surface were collapsed to hinder the
darkspawn. Later they managed to surface.

It has been described as the Pegasus to Orzammars Galactica by Gaider.

Edit: Though admittedly, they would probably not have too much contact with the surface.

You know, initially when I read that metaphor that sums up the difference between Kal-Sharok and Orzammar, my first thought immediately veered off to how the former may have revert to a more 'uncivilized' or 'baser' way of life, but that's how a human would immediately assume. Perhaps what it means is that Kal-Sharokians do away with whatever 'civilized' dwarven practices that would cut down their survivability, including the rigid caste system, strict gender roles, marriage practices, etc. For all you know, if Hawke manages to step into Kal-Sharok, s/he might stumble into a Care Bear-esque dwarven commune (a bloody, violent care bear commune I reckon, but still...)

Considering that they have very limited resources against a seemingly infinite horde, every life there would count. Having a caste system cutting down on the number of people that can fight in those circumstances would be dumb, to be succinct. Though I doubt that we'll see it during DA2.

The latter would prove ironic, as the Dwarven Merchant Guild isn't so much different from what we've read so far ^o^ Ah well, you can take a dwarf out of Orzammar, but you can't take Orzammar out of a dwarf ^w^

Business opportunities? They could have been sent to monitor Orzammars interests topside too.

How long have they been on the surface anyways?

And on a sidenote, I approve of Varric chucking grenades and being ranged in general. He doesn't seem like the guy who'd flip-flop around a battlefield.

I was thinking it was less of an exile and more like seeing opportunity and going for it, but noble houses have it pretty good in Orzammar, so maybe it WAS exile. But do dwarves exile people to the surface for crimes? I thought they just sent them off to die in the Deep Roads.

Gorim got sent to the surface. Yes, dwarves are exiled to the surface too.

Exiling a whole house seems a little extreme, and if that was to be, the crime warranting it would probably warrant deep roads.

Not to say that they couldn't have thought "bugger this" and fought their way to the surface though.

Garrett and Marian have their own threads, or did you want Varric+Hawke affection? :P

And yeah it seems to me that anything severe enough to warrant an entire house's exile would be severe enough for the Deep Roads.

Or they could have seen how the winds were blowing, and just decided to leave. Orzammar is pretty much dying. Give it a generation or too, and it's going to be a lost Thaig. Now hopefully Bhelen would be able to turn that around but seeing as how he hasn't even been crowned/May not be crowned it wouldn't be too surprising for some of the noble houses to decide that their fortunes, and future lay on the surface.
