I would like to know what this "Qubari" race of which you speak is. Does it have anything to do with tap-dancing squirrels?

Qunari-Mabari hybrids. Vicious people. The breeding process is a bit disturbing, though.

What do you mean could have been? He totally was a wisecracking comedian! (For a qunari.)

We had the outlines of qunari culture already. I filled in a lot of the details for them and him as I wrote Sten, but Sten was supposed to be, more or less, an absolutely typical qunari warrior.

So Varric's completely awesome personality is all Mary's doing then. I wonder what little quirks he has, like Sten and his cookie thing.

The iPod corrected it to Qubari. Don't ask me what the hell that is, I don't know.

They all have a cookie thing? Oh god, no larder is safe. Can you even hear a Qunari invasion over the deafening sobs of fat children?

They're like the Qunari only with more emphasis on barbecues, and parties.

Sten is a dull character for example he dissaproves with saving redcliife, he barely speaks and everything the warden does must be to stop the blight as soon as possible, it seems that nothing else matters to sten.

I want a qunari warrior companion in DA 2 but make him more complex as a character.

Perhaps the sound of thousands of warriors grumbling under their breath and making annoyed grunts is enough to drown out the sobbing.

Hmmm... considering my work environment, I can't determine if telepathy would be awesome or horrifying.

My money's on horrifying with the occasional blessed moment of awesome!

Me: *sitting at my desk, attempting to come up with some sort of insights for a codex entry on beet production in the Free Marches* Okay, what do I know about beets that might be interesting? ...Nothing whatsoever. Awesome. Come on brain, think of something to say...

Sheryl: Man, look at Lady Gaga's meat dress! She sat on Ellen's nice velvet chair in that! I wonder if she smells like bacon? Mmmmm... bacon. I like kittens!

Luke: "I'm your only friend, I'm not your only friend, but I'm a little glowing friend, but really I'm not actually your friend, but I am..."

David: Look at this forum thread! B!tch, please.

Me: ...I am so screwed.

I want to work for you people.

We all know he totally got Wynne to show him how to bake before he left. Hell knowing Wynne she made him a care package, and made sure he had plenty of socks, and underware.

Sten was an excellent character. I think you're suffering from I-can't-get-Sten-to-like-me-itis, which is a common complain amongst those who dislike him.

Also, disapproving of saving Redcliffe doesn't make a dull character. Morrigan does, as well--only Persuasion can yield approval points from Sten, if you can convince him this is a worthy cause. With him, he just doesn't get the point in doing these unnecessary things. You have a task, you should be completing it. He's straight-forward. No one in Redcliffe is a part of the army--they're all farmers and peasants. Saving them doesn't contribute to your cause, from his point. You can convince him otherwise.

I don't know, maybe you missed the part where getting some random dwarven chick a pass to the Circle is less important than stopping the Blight. It is true that heroes in RPGs are awfully ADD. He's just a character that points it out.

Apologies?  What for?  I haven't heard anyone complain yet!  And anyone that did would be introduced to the door.  With pitchforks and torches.

Usually it's more like this: "Aimo posted new fanart!"

the floor rumbles as the teeming masses converge.  "K!ick@ss!!  LET ME SEE!"

For Varric? I liked the fact that he was a storyteller in general, and narrating the player's story in particular. Anybody else ever watch Jim Henson's The Storyteller? The one with John Hurt as the Storyteller? I love that series.

Er...was that the one where they did versions of fairytales?  Good versions, not watered-down Disneyesque versiosn with saccarine dancing...and...er....*cricket chirp*

Right, sorry.  Got carried away there.  I recall a show by Jim Henson Studio. where it was the narrator and his (muppet) dog that told the tale and made comments (sometimes the characters even heard those comments) about the tale as it progressed.  I loved that show.  I think the narrator might even have been Jim, but it has been many, many years.

EDIT: The narrator was John Hurt.  Because, you know Mary just said so.  *sigh*

The dog was voiced by Jim Henson's son Brian.  Wikipedia = Win.

If the scenes between Varric and Cassandra come even remotely close to feeling like the Storyteller and the Dog (they could get somewhat cross with each other, as I recall) then it is all but guarunteed to great fun watching them banter back and forth.

Hm much as I love me some Qunari, let's rerail this thread, shall we?

So Varric. What do we think his quirks may be? It seems like a lot of DA characters have a secret or not-so-secret love for something. Alistair has cheese and little figures, Morri has shiny things, Leli...shoes. Sten--cookies.

Varric. Well we know he likes wine, attention and large golden donuts (hee). But that's not secret.

This thread desperately needs either new info on Varric or new artwork. Seriously, every available topic had been discussed. Well, except for dwarven BDSM. But that's Oghren's thing mostly.

yes you can convince him but i
think there are more important skills to spend points on and that no nonsense attitude get annoying after a while.

Actually no there isn't. After your combat skills Coercion is the best skill line in the game for the PC. Bar none. Especially seeing as how you don't need Combat Tactics, Stealing, Herbalism as your companions have those skills already.

Anyhow getting back on topic I'd imagine he probably has a fetish for expensive boots. Don't know why he just screams boots to me. Expensive custom tailored boots.

He screams Fine Apparel Dude to me, as in softest leathers, finest silks, skillfully sewn shirts, blingest jewelry, etc etc. A rich dwarf has to be immaculately dressed even for lounging at the pub.

Interesting, I think of Varric as a much rougher around the edges kind of character. Certainly not one who wears silks. Maybe I have spent too much time around Oghren..

He wouldn't be dressed up in frilly stuff but everything in his wardrobe would be top quality as far as materials and craftsmanship. Like when, for example, actors make appearances in jeans and t-shirts but you know everything they have on is way out of your price range. Yeah I can see him being like that. Which is funny that you bring up because when I was costuming him in modern clothes in my head I put him in this obscenely expensive pair of boots I saw once. They were so cool but now I can't remember the company who made them.
