Please put this back ontopic D:

I don't want this locked due to hippies, elves or whatever you're talking about.

Do you see that fine looking fellow in your avatar? Do you see his chest hair? Do you see that smirk that says "I would chop down an entire tree to get a single leaf to wipe my @** with?"

Varric is 100% man and is thus composed of 100% anti-elf material. So, technically, when making fun of elves, you are actually complementing Varric.

It's a fact that everytime you bash an elf, the Varric thread is allowed another 5 posts.

It's science, science is fact, therefore I can't be wrong, right? WRONG! No, but really, right.

Not really. :D Please get back on topic.

That said, I wonder if his parents are still alive? At the mention of the older brother, I got the feeling that they were no longer "in the picture," since he's the one running the empire. Are they deceased? Retired and living in Antiva?

Side-Note- The way it's sounding, Varric certainly seems to be shaping up to be a comical character and the stereotypical role for a dwarf is merchant... he isn't going to be your typical Oghren, but I don't see him shattering any stereotypes as of now.

Hey! I finally got a character who can crack some freakin' jokes with the player, and don't you take that away from me, Wishpig!

Meanie.

The Varric Lulz are under attack! Noooo...

I'm kinda hoping his parents are alive.

Poppa Tethras was all "You deal with this Merchant's Guild crap," to Varric's brother when he was old enough. Then he left with Momma Tethras to a nice little Antivan town by the sea.

I'd like, just for once, to have a character to have a normal *realitivly speaking* family or whose family didn't undergo some terrible tradgedy.

Not long after they came to the surface, they fell into the sky and haven't been seen since.

I can't tell if it's because I'm tired but I spit water all over my keyboard and it broke. Had to get the spare one from the basement.

THANKS MARY.

Hawke, come quick!
"What?"
There's been a tragedy!
"What is it, Varric?"
My family is normal, we've never had a tragedy!
"But.. how is that a tragedy?"
Exactly, I've got no family conflict! In an RPG game! What kind of fantasy world is this?!
[Varric's Woes completed.]

There are men who struggle against chest hair, only to have it swallow them whole and there are men who embrace chest hair and do not show their fear, these are the ones that tell stories of those that change the world forever.

I read that and can't help but picture some dwarf strolling along the surface whistling a little tune then BAM! they get flung up into the sky all Monty Python like.

Mary broke your keyboard, so now you're trying to break everyone elses? I'm just glad I wasn't drinking when I read that.

Hi everyone, a nervous breakdown (IRL) and nug hunting trip (???) prevented me from coming around to check on what needs to be added to the OP (e.g info [this has been horribly neglected! :shame:], banners, fanart) so I hope any volunteers with ideas on cleaning up the OP would PM me...

Ah, and of course, send me links to any good Varric fanart/banner I have missed ^^

Sorry for the inconvenience.

I am so confused by what that could mean but I think I need to start collecting my tears for your coffee machine. Though now I'm wondering how how long after Varric was born they "fall into the sky".

(I'm not even sure that made sense... Who cares? Mary replied to my post! :D)

It's a reference to Idle Dwarf. He's afraid of the surface because without a ceiling you'd fall into the sky. You can tell him "You just gotta hold on real tight with your feet" which is the option I always pick. :D

I'm working on breeding a race of dwarves with sticky caterpillar feet to avoid this problem.

That guy was funny.

Varric can already "hold on real tight" with his incredible awesomeness. Maybe he has hair on his feet too XP

He can use his chest-hair as velcro on grass.

Varric would have been proud, had an inclass presentation today and picked a shirt that screams CHEST HAIR BIATCHES!

Pretty sure my teacher was drooling over me and the girls swooning... I got an A++++ for sure... well I would have if my college gave out A+'s.

Mine doesn't either, it's surprisingly mindscrewy.

I lolled. Or maybe they have excessive foot-hair like Hobbits. Otherwise fighting would be a problem.

I'm warming up to the Rogue Bard Crossbow combination. The type of guy that has "people" is probably the type of guy who prefers not to get his hands dirty, or perhaps he just has a very strong sense of self-preservation and would want to distance himself from the fighting. You can't be narrator when you're dead! Or can you...

I say crossbow as opposed to bow because, well, force of airborn arrow relates to string draw distance, correct? Just saying...

This is why I have a pre-reading Varric thread checklist.  Number 17 is:

"No food or drink within 20 ft. of the computer"

Its come in handy many times.

At last! Cheesus, the number of times in DAO I responded to a character (for example, let's just randomly pick... ALISTAIR!) on the basis that he likes to make a joke (or seventy), only to have my jocular bonhomie thrown back in my face with disaproval! That got my goat! More slagging all round, I say!

Wow... I wish I was as out of the loop about game releases as I usually am. The wait for new info and the game is gonna hurt.

I'll just be here pretending my hoodie is as awesome as Varric's coat and that I have Varric pillow. I also want a Varric plushie. Maker do I want a plushie.
